I noticed that, too. It seems that reactions are how Aoyama portrays people a lot of the time. Like when Vermouth was called 'Sharon' and we knew it was Shinichi's mother talking. Whoever Subaru is, he was traveling with Shinichi's mom and has Conan's trust. I believe he is Akai, but he could also be Shinichi's father, or another side character who dropped from the scene.
