EDIT: I just read your post You just have to keep practicing. What I do is I wait for a while, make sure I am calm and take a deep breath. Then I hold my nose, so that air doesn't "leak out" (I don't know why I need to do that now, I never used to need to...) and I do something else while trying to forget that I am holding my breath Actually, maybe another reason is because at school, our toilet is very smelly, so I try not to breathe :P
