The festival is according to the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, and it is the first day of each lunar calendar year. However it doesn't have a fixed day in the Gregorian calendar we use now, I mean the date in the Gregorian calendar will change every year. It is often in the late January or early fabruary. In 2012, the spring festival is on Jan.23rd.

That's OK! I myself often spell wrong. Here I think spelling and grammar is not important as long as people can understand each other.
Me too, most of us do not celebrate new year as well, because this time is often the most busy time for working and studying. However we have grand celebration for Spring festival(Chinese New Year) each year.
