They both hide themselves and try not to appear, and the guy from the BO who died in the episode when he discovered Haibara was Miyano (forgot his name) sort of looks like L's helper, the old man (forgot his name too). Shiho Miyano does not exist and Haibara made up the whole story of being from the BO and escaping. She's just a mature child, that's all.
