  1. That's easy... Sato Miwako. Super smart, sharp detective skills, and after what seemed like forever, she ended up finally reciprocating Takagi-san's feelings. Her side story has been quite humorous! As for Haibara-chan, she is my favorite main character, and ranks second overall. To explain this, if you think about her life "before", she could only be seen as a villain. She certainly didn't seem to be objecting to testing APTX 4869 on a living "subject" (Numabuchi). And yet, even in that evil, you feel sorry for her. Her parents dead (or so she believes... until DNA proves a corpse, you can't trust anything in this manga) yet her mother left tapes for her to listen to (still don't know the resolution to the secrets on those tapes... her Mom was what? and regret what?) and those tapes became the last connection to her parents. Her sister, also an agent in the evil organization, was murdered for trying to leave and save her little sister. Her life was totally controlled, and finally, she was sentenced to die in a poison chamber for speaking up against the injustice that the Organization was systematically killing off her family. (Well, she refused to do further research, anyway...) She's been shot (what, 4-5 times now?), attacked, run over, beaten, but has bounced back each time to grow closer and gain stronger bonds with all of her new friends (even the Detective Boys, I think she sees them like little brothers/sister type characters in her life). Personally, I think she has a crush on Shinichi, even though she knows that he is totally infatuated with Ran. Ai certainly seems to have one of the strongest personalities out of everyone in the series. She is also probably the only character that is more secretive than Shinichi/Conan when it comes to hiding her secrets. She is also, as I am sure, in possession of the keys that could unlock the shackles that hide the final secrets of the Black Organization. But her unwillingness to tell any of it to Shinichi/Conan in order to protect him is also exposing him to more danger, as he has to go to other means to uncover the secrets that she already knows. And I think that the reason that she so stringently hides those secrets is more to protect her parents’ memories than the more vocalized reason of “protecting” Conan. So, to your point… yeah, she’s pretty cool.
  2. I like it here, so Welcome! You'll find a lot of fellow fans here. Feel free to ask pretty much any of them for any information you may be after.
  3. Welcome! You'll find a lot of fellow fans here. Feel free to ask pretty much any of them for any information you may be after. FYI, in Naruto I like Hinata - she actually seems to be a better match for Naruto anyway...
  4. Welcome! You'll find a lot of fellow fans here. Feel free to ask pretty much any of them for any information you may be after. And some of us happen to know German (but I warn you, it's been a long time for me since I spoke it, and I was never very fluent... I was better with Latin.)

  6. Never? That's a long time there... He fits the pre-requisits... his name was mentioned in the manga prior to the interview in which it was revealed that Anokata was already in the manga, he's perfectly positioned to lead the assault against the black org, while ensuring that no real damage is done, he can keep easy tabs on the "Silver Bullet" (Akai), and he shares Conan's nickname of "Cool Guy" with Vermouth (and since Vermouth has a "special relationship" with Anokata, the sharing of nicknames does follow suit, and the fact that she's old enough to be her own mother means that she could have known JB when he was younger). Heck, when they first met, Ai said to Conan, "Does he make you feel strange" (No Group, but that's Sality's translation) so it looks like her Black Org Radar had a ping go off... Black is his last name, first name "James", a Holmes fan... Born in London, raised in Chicago (the city of Al Capone, as he points out when his character is introduced...) he mimics some of the traits of S. Holmes arch nemisis... Born in England, Professor Moriarty is well traveled across the globe. Name of "James" as a first name (which is actually the name of Prof. Moriarty's brother, and then later stated to be Prof. Moriarty's name)... If he used an "air rifle" in the shape of a cane, it would be a slam dunk (almost) that it's him! If we can just ignore the fact that JB already knows that "Sherry" is Ai (Ch. 435), because that would flat out prove that it isn't him, there is a lot of other evidence that it is him... unless, he has a reason to not just kill her that isn't revealed yet (she is the one w/ the knowledge of the drug, and could be the only one that can explain what happened w/ Vermouth and killing her would lead to Vermouth de-aging into childhood, or the only one that can resolve the age reduction that happened to her and Shinichi... or something). Still, it's fun trying to figure out who Anokata really is. To be on topic for this post though, yes, I think that JB does know who Sera is.
  7. Hi! Welcome to DCW! Some info if you don't know already: Click on other members' display name - in my case, Cindy-Chen. Then scroll under "Friends" and type in the box called "Comments". If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

  8. Sorry, reply from smartphone - but, Gin has gone ahead and used his own discretion more than once. Maybe not using the boss's name to do so, but he never had the boss's ok to poison Shinichi in the beginning of the series. He clearly seems to be a Lieutenant in the org at the very least. That means that he is trusted to use that personal judgement sometimes. This just may have been one of those times. All I am stressing here is that sometimes it pays to not discount something until the proof is clearly spelled out. And while the circumstantial evidence is in favor of it not being Black, it is still only circumstancial.
  9. I know where you are going with this, but at the same time, in that chapter, Gin had just located the listening device that Conan had left behind... and there is no proof that he didn't take it upon himself to just say that. It could be that the boss was contacted which rather nicely excludes James, but the boss may not have been contacted. Gin could have been relaying out instructions or hashing out details without actually calling the boss while the reception was muddled (I think that's the term that Conan used). All we have is Gin's conversation (that he knew was being listened to) in which he 'said' that he got permission from the boss. All I'm saying is that that 'solid' is a bit too permanent for the level of security that we have that it's not him. It's probably still not him (last name "Black"? Really?) since that would be too easy, but at the same time, Conan has used misdirection like that to lead Ran away from identifying his true identity. I mean really, how often does he "read" texts from his alter ego? Or pretend to talk to his elder self on the phone?
  10. Hey all. Due to the marketing efforts of the US translation companies, I had never really been into Detective Conan. Having Japanese main characters w/ American names just threw me off. However, due to my interest in Detective Novels, Manga, and all things different, I ended up finally giving in and giving DC a try. (And before you ask, yes, I did buy the Case Closed versions of the manga, and yes, I took to the books with White out and Pen to 'fix' the names... and yes, I still read the fan translations. I actually think that reading both versions helps with understanding the hidden clues. I've been watching Anime for oh, longer than most members here have probably been alive (30 some years...) I remember when translated anime (dubbed OR subbed) cost $35-$40 per VHS (with normally 1-2 episodes per tape) and a Laser Disk cost... more. I still have most of those (no, I'm not an otaku... honest {}). As for Detective Conan, I'm in the what seems to be very small camp that thinks that James Black is Anokata. I know the evidence is against it, but assuming that he can maintain cover, he's in the perfect spot for it... all the inside scoop from the FBI (plus he's in charge of chasing the Black Org), old enough to know Vermouth from when he was younger, Holmes fan (knew the Baker Street Irregulars right off the bat), made Ai's "Black Org Radar" go off when he was first introduced, and he is the only person other than Vermouth to call Conan "Cool Guy"...
  11. Well, if James Black is actually Ano Kata, then it would make sense. Anokata is described as overplanning, which means that revealing information that doesn't need to be revealed for a planned out purpose just wouldn't be done... not saying he is, but it would make sense...
