    I agree, Eisuke for example heard the confession from Conan heavily implying himself as Shinichi. But maybe my memory is shaking a little, still I don't recall an episode were Conan's words that he spoke have came to give him away to Shuu.. his actions perhaps, and his manner of speech.. but I don't recall an episode where he does go out of line and implies himself as Shinichi, unless you include the Shinichi's voice mimicking episode where he was caught by Shuu..

    What I mean is, he is guessing they are so. But have not definitely confirmed his guesses, for example the case with Conan and MG, he doesn't know who she is but had a guess and almost confirmed it when he saw Ai washing off her make up. Shuu believes that Conan is Shinichi, but still as he might be convinced he only read through it based upon knowing two simple facts about Conan that he is too smart for his age and was caught using a gadget, put yourself in his place, you'd be convinced that Conan is Shinichi but as of now you cannot prove it to yourself.

    He heavily assumes so, but Shuu have no evidence to support his claim even if he is almost certain Conan is Shinichi.

    Indeed it would suffice having Elena as the smartest since she did create it, but then there is her husband. And Pisco did say that Shiho progressed the drug into an incredible level, so she might be smarter. Vermouth, as hinted, is not that all smart in science. She may be incredible in cognitive thinking and handling a situation, but we have seen nothing that would prove her as a capable scientist. Even though she appeared as one, Agasa seems to be super scientist as well, maybe he focused on inventions most of which ends up with a flaw, but still he does everything a scientist can do at abnormal levels..

    Is Ai Haibara the smartest scientist?, I mean she is the youngest thus far to evolve a drug to a miraculous stage. Does it means that she is smarter than both her parents? if so I truly find it hard that the Boss would send after her death, even if his biggest priority is secrecy. If I were the Boss, I would plan for her to look insane so no one would believe her and then take her back into the BO because she is the smartest and a key to many studies.

    Your thoughts and the way you put them makes me realize, that in a weak theory. Perhaps Kuroda was involved in the same accident that also took Rum's eye, it happens a lot in anime where a character is fitting a description of a mysterious character but turns out to be involved only and not the actual character. Therefore, Kuroda lost his memory of the chase after BO and as greatly skilled as he may be, during his fight both him and Rum had an 'accident' leading to them both losing their eyes. Kuroda is burned from the right side of his face, which makes Rum most likely to be burned or scarred from the left side of his face if they were facing each other. More so Rum would have at least to be as tough as Kuroda and at least as smart as him as well.. Makes since if Gosho-sama planned ahead that Kuroda would replace Matsumoto and lead the police force in the final arch, as someone with experience against the BO..

    I think it has more to do with the fact that part of the movie's name 'NIGHTMARE' may be interpreted as a Mare of the Night, therefore they played on the pun and illustrated Conan sitting on a Mare with shadowy features..
