Apologies for the double post. Regrettably, we won't be getting 1,007 for 3 weeks—the text spoilers for it should come out on the 24th. There's been no announcement—as of yet—as to the reason behind what will end up as a nearly 2 month break between the release of 1,006 and the release of 1,007.

In terms of the manga, I don't think so.

Well, this is the third time he's taken a month-long break from DC this year: 1. File 993 releases: April 19th File 994 releases: May 31st 2. File 996 releases: June 14th File 997 releases: July 12th 3. File 1,006 releases: October 4th File 1,007 releases: November 1st That's the hope that we all share, I would say. Would anyone be opposed to a Gin arc? (it would follow after the Rum arc, and the Gin arc would then be followed by the final/boss arc) I think that would be the one arc that would have the least amount of fans who would be immediately against it (assuming the Rum arc isn't the second-to-last arc of DC).

It probably has to do with Koji's murder—perhaps she even got them at the hands of Rum. Sometime this Friday, most likely.

And that's the problem—it'd make Rum be just another Vermouth, rather than their own character. So that leaves us with Kanenori—and his parallels to Rei/Toru/Bourbon are too striking (works next to the Mori Detective Agency; wants to be Kogoro's apprentice). So he's just as much of a red herring as Hyoe or Rumi. I'd say Shogi is the key, in the context of this arc.

Only if you assume there isn't a character who is to the Rum arc what Tomoaki Ariade was to the Vermouth arc—as in, the character who flew under the radar and only when some went back and looked over the arc, later, they'd go, "oh... that's why it was them."

I think Gosho's aware of the parallels to the Bourbon arc, here, so I don't think it'll end the same (The guy who wants to be Kogoro's apprentice is the titular BO character of the arc). As for the "Rum is 3 people" theory:

You got that right. If she's Rum, then she's had so many opportunities to deal with Shiho/Ai—the fact that she hasn't taken any of them is a red flag. I'd say she's got a pretty good chance to be the first 3rd party infiltrator of the BO (as in, she infiltrated the BO, but she's not a government agent), but I'm not ruling out her being—at least—somewhat connected to a government agency, or someone who's part of one. Maybe she gained access to the list not because she's infiltrating the BO, but because someone else in a position to have access to the list passed it along to her. Save for Hyoe, none of the other plot characters introduced in the Bourbon arc or the Rum arc have met Rumi yet—in fact, neither Hyoe (except for his encounter with Rumi) nor Kanenori have met other plot characters introduced in the Bourbon arc or the Rum arc, either (though Kanenori meeting Rei/Toru has been hinted at (981–983)).

Nope—that'd be jumping the gun. And for those of you unaware—the entirety of 1,005 came out in Japanese and has now been translated and released by the BSI scanlation team. I get why—I just don't agree with, "Ran should get to find out the truth about Conan, because otherwise the story will be dullsville, dude", because that implies that this aspect of the story overrides all others to the point it can, on its own, make or break the whole story... and I also disagree with the assertion that since File 500/Episode 425, the way this aspect has been handled is of not just low quality, but of "this is so bad, I will give up on everything else over this" quality (and I'd still contest that assertion even if I agreed with you that this aspect of the story overrides all others to the point it can, on its own, make or break the whole story).

I don't disagree that Ran finding out would be a boon to DC—I'm not the one you should be trying to convince, here, on that subject. I just disagree that her not finding out—that the actions taken by "those in the know" during stories that give her the greatest chance to find out—is as big a deal as you seem to think it is.

More 1,004 spoiler pics are out (follow the link I originally provided, two posts before this one), and I can confirm that 1,004 is not the last file of this case—1,005 will be the last file of this case. Thus, for the first time since October–December 2012, we finally have a case longer than 5 files, and for the first time since June–August 2011, we finally have a 6 file case.

She's appeared fairly often since her introduction, 50 Files ago—this case will be the third out of the past 7 that she's appeared in. Given how Movie 21 ended, it would've been strange for Momiji to never appear in the manga—to have her say, to Kazuha, "I won't give up," and then never appear again?... Gosho must've realized that there was more potential in having her be a manga character that would stick around, beyond 2017, than to just have her be a movie character, and for that rivalry between her and Kazuha to only last one non-canon movie. Unless Gosho planned for her to appear every few movies and have her be a movie-only rival... I'm still wondering about Heiji and Momiji's first manga meeting—will Gosho have to make a new first encounter (and bring up their backstory from Movie 21 again), or will he have them explain (and Kazuha, too, perhaps) that they've met before (like how Ayanokoji shows that he knows Shinichi/Conan (File 1,001), but doesn't specifically reference the events of Movie 7—in other words, they have met before, just under different circumstances than the ones in the movie)?

Oh, I only mentioned it because it was the year before Momiji made her manga debut.

I wonder how long "way before" was—did he think about introducing Momiji in 2015? Or was it even earlier?

Would you look at that... I always had a feeling that this character wasn't originally conceived as a movie-first/movie-only character.

I think we'll get File 1,110 in 2020—it typically takes 3 years for Gosho to make 100 Files (that's how long it took for him to get from File 900 to File 1,000—when DC started, it took him only 2 years to make the first 100 Files... it's steadily gotten longer since the Kir arc).
