Didn't Shinichi tell her he was going on an important case? I mean, did Ran expect to be filled in with details? The title of this topic who is the best for Shinichi, which I assumed in his career, his life and such. This is who I think will be best for Shinichi. But since it's your opinion I can't argue much. I can't believe I'm defending ShinRan, but Shinichi and Ran wouldn't be friends of they didn't talk. And I don't Shinichi talks about Holmes all the time. Those flashbacks were just the more exciting part of their childhood (which I did not watch, so I'm guessing here) and Shinichi is the leading in the matter of things like that (riddles, things that requires brain, etc) so obviously Ran will just follow him around. Isn't that what I've been saying the whole time? I know CoAi will be more interesting in ShinRan (my opinion anyways), which is why I support AiCon. Plus I get a little sick watching ShinRan scenes. No offense. Eh, I remember reading somewhere that you told me you were neutral. Sorry. I must've replied to the wrong person. And look, I won't admit I'm a pro at English. My english was just enough to communicate casually. The way you write is rather formal but I'll do my best to understand you. Sorry if I misunderstood anything. That is exactly my point. Getting worried is fine. But my other point is getting angry isn't. I don't see why she would get mad at Shinichi for going out on a case without telling for long or dating a girl. It was his choice. She was his childhood friend and that's that. But I can see about being jealous and getting worried. I seem to not make my point clear enough. WORRYING IS FINE, GETTING ANGRY ISN'T. Shinichi is on multiple cases. He pitched in a meeting between one of them maybe? At least, that's what I would thought. Yeah, like you said, that depends on how you look at it. I see it as an incredibly reckless act because Shinichi would've done it, and I'm sorry, I'm going to be frank here that you didn't convince me. I didn't see her as a crybaby (yeah, I did, but maybe I view her a little differently now.) She is selfless, I recognize that. But I don't see her as patient. Because like I said, waiting for someone you love is normal to me. In the end it's all a matter of opinion so this argument shouldn't even start in the first place. Though, I respect your level-headedness in replying, which I found rare. I seriously need to rewatch DC. And plus I'm trying to make it as unreasonable as possible and it wasn't directed to you in the first place, so will you please drop it?
-
Yup, I'm mistaken. Shinichi suggested the date, so I'll try something more unreasonable; Shinichi forgot (which will save him), so technically, Ran forced him to. Yeah, unreasonable, I know.
-
I see her as clingy (clingy, not selfish. In fact, she's the opposite of selfish) not because she's worried. It's because she's getting mad at him. Or break in people's house because she thought Shinichi is... 'making love' (someone like that. Need to re watch DC) and many more. Needed to note that she and Shinichi isn't even girlfriend and boyfiriend yet, so I view it as being clingy. Shinichi needed to go on an urgent case. Or as she thought, urgent AND important case. Yet Shinichi still find time to meet her (although running off halfway, and yes it is fault on Shin's side) and call. She has no right to get mad, or shout and I also can't see any reason for getting emotional (I just can't see it). Worried is fine, angry isn't. Seriously? Shinichi liked Ran since preschool? I wasn't aware of that. Didn't he realized his feelings when he shrunk? And really, I never used the 'ShinRan barely interact' argument. I found that stupid, considering they talk just fine during the first episode. I didn't see any strong will in her. Waiting for a man isn't strong-willed. I know quite a few people who waits for really, really long time or they just chase them in their own. So to me waiting is quite a normal thing to do when you're in love. I don't know about you, but I never saw someone who loved without waiting. But if you're talking about her physical strength... Well, she can bend a pole while smiling. I see her strong enough but not really effective (defense broken, gone. If she's unprepared or panicked, the end. Plus, stability is a must in martial arts and Ran isn't exactly the calm type). What are we talking about? Which tendencies? Getting angry, worried, crying? In any case, I still held a grudge against her for the 'bomb vengeful brother and the three writers' case. She endangered quite a lot of life's because she thought Shinichi wouldn't do it. Yeah, I particulary remember that one because Sera is one of my favorite characters. Not exactly 'clingy ness' but I still don't like that reckless side of her. And I do not see her as 'weepy', okay? I see her as clingy, or in the past, 'possesive'. Note: In. The. Past. Well, it's not exactly my argument, so... And I would rather lose Internet than saying that (not literally), since as you can see, I love Ai and don't really like Ran. Ran would be the clear winner, definitely. Since Gosho said 'happy ending' and everyone knows what his idea of 'happy ending' would be. I don't give a damn. I stuck by my own decision and opinion, not what's decided by the manga from the start. Of course, it was still technically possible, so I can't give up hope, can't I? Not after I defended CoAi for so long. Nice to see someone neutral in the war, but if you truly are neutral, I suggest you to not vote for thread like this.
-
Really? Sorry, I just assumed, since you didn't put a name. Yeah, I can't either. And also clingy people. Really? I though Ran made him promise to bring her on a date if she won the Karate championship or something. Must be a mistake in my memory, I'll go check. I'm not saying that to you! I'm also not saying you're saying it's Ai's fault, someone else is! I'm replying to someone else who said Ai is the cause of Shinichi shrinking, so I tried to made something just as unreasonable. Ai indirectly caused Shinichi to shrunk, and if I remembered right (which is most likely wrong), Ran also indirectly made Shinichi shrunk. It's unreasonable—exactly what I want.
-
Probably too late to answer but this is an interesting topic (to me anyways). I don't give a darn whether Shinichi ends up with Ran or sewer rats, as long as they didn't just toss Ai aside. What I'm worried about is that Ai ends up being forgotten while ShinRan rode unicorns to happy sunset. Or worse, never again mentioned after the 'BO battle' everyone know will be there sooner or later, in any form. I'll be severely pissed if that Gosho made it like that. At the least (even if CoAi didn't come true), Shinichi will be shown working on a case with Shiho, throwing witty remarks as usual. This will be satisfying, even if it's only a short scene.
-
But Ran is the one who asked him to go on a 'date' with her. So she indirectly brought him to that place. But all I'm trying to say isn that 'Ai brought him to this situation' is unreasonable. What will you do if you're her? Kill Gin and take the poison away? Plus, Gin uses the poison without her permission. You talking to me? Well, Ai is a mentally stable person. She just felt what everyone will feel when hunted by a dark organization—scared. And most of her fears are proven anyways. and you wouldn't be so stable either if the only person you cared for was killed. And Ran is as reckless as Shinichi, so I'd say she is not calm (I'm not saying she's mentally unstable though).
-
Is this topic dead? Because I have some things too say.
-
It's the matter of opinion. If it's up to me, I'd say: Ran, clingy and selfish. No real personality and is a tool of the story. Only loved by Shinichi beacause that's what happens when a male stuck on a female too long (and vice versa). I think there is a name for that symptom. Have to research some more. And she is also boring. Ai, selfless and strong (physically and mentally), intelligent and sharp (often exceeding Conan himself),deserves more love and understanding, what her family are has nothing to do with her. Are you saying you'll judge someone by what their family do (btw, her parents aren't evil). The main reson for Shinichi being Conan is Shinichi. He's an idiot for rushing in anything suspicious like that. Also, Ran is the one who brought him to that place anyway. My answer: Ai will certainly help him in his career a lot, and balances him off well (paranoia and recklessness). She is sharp and intelligent, which would be useful for detective work. She also isn't the type to get lonely and worried when Shinichi has a sudden case and have to leave without calling. What's more, she will have a clear future with Shinichi (unlike Ran, who already has a future blocked by her obsession with Shincihi).
-
Erase Ran from the story. Either that, or Ran being less clingy. And also that thing about the Masumi siblings and the mysterious girl cleared up. And if possible, a showdown between Heiji-Conan-Ai-Sera against Kaito Kid.
-
Woah, woah, dangerous topic here. And the way you ask the question means we're supposed to give our own opinion and ignore what the characters wants. Anyways, I'll definitely vouch for Haibara. It has a little chance compared to the original pairing, but I'm not giving up. My reasoning; She gone through much more than Ran, and I prefer imagining Conan with her than with Ran. Plus, Ran is boring and is slightly too perfect (and too clingy). And also, I couldn't imagine Haibara being with anyone else (except maybe Akai or Kaito, but I still prefer CoAi). Plus Shinichi has a better future in career with Haibara. She can help him in ways more than one.

@gas057 I couldn't help but to think you're referring to my post above so... Well the thing is, she can worry about him, but not telling him to explain himself, get mad, cry, ect. Well, perhaps the cry part is slightly justified, since she's worrying, but that also means she's emotional — something I dislike. And are you sure she wants to hear the details of his work? I mean, it would take a long time to explain and Shinichi is busy (or so she thought). She's supposed to be considerate character, right? And some jobs do need a long time to work on. And Shinichi calls back to her sometimes even when he doesn't have to. She have no right to get angry over him not telling her where he's going anyway. He also doesn't have to tell him what he's doing. As you quoted above, she doesn't own him. She's not his girl. Whoa, you hate the main character? That must hard on you. Though I also dislike Shinichi to some extent (but Conan is a different story altogether).

Who's better off with Shinichi? Haibara Ai or Ran??
GrimmReaper replied to Chianti's topic in General
Ah, that so? I always stick to the animes and movies, so my bad. 1. I don't get how is Ran getting angry is 'advertising'. But I guess I'm at fault here, so sorry. 2. And again, like I said, having a father as a police and having a lover as a police is different. Especially how Shinichi seems to always get stuck on extremely dangerous situations. And the level of danger Kogoro and Shinichi get is way different. And Shinichi tends to confort situations more, which is the reason he's stuck in his current body. 3. Sorry, I've always thought Aoyama wrote the movies himself too. 4. That's irrevelant. I watched DC with dashing over episodes in weeks, so I don't really care how many years DC has gone. The actual time for DC to go doesn't concern me. I can understand Ran lovers, in a way. Since I was one of you once too ^^ But as DC grew, she gets irritating. And I was fine with her now. I just like her least. I apologized for hating her in that thread too, btw. -
Sorry for not making it clear. I guess I need to improve on that. No, I'm just writing in what Ran thinks Shinichi thinks about her. In Shinichi's head, Ran is definitely more than a childhood friend. She's his love, crush, anything that line. And I was writing in what Ran thought Shinichi thinks about her, based on what Ran knew. She thought Shinichi thought she was 'just a childhood friend', remember? IF Shinichi only thought Ran as a friend, and as Ran was tricked to believe -Going on a case-, that's^ what Shinichi would feel. Annoyed and irritated. Basically, I was writing in Ran's point of view, based on what Ran knew
-
Shinichi knows he was in love with Ran, definitely. But Ran didn't. For him she's more than a friend, but Ran didn't know that.
-
Not for me. I burned my kitchen when I was cooking instant noodle. --- According to my family and other sources, my annoyingness knew no bounds.
-
I'll assume you agree with everything else in this post. Yes, naturally. But I don't think getting angry is called natural. Say, you have a crush you don't realize. To you, she's just a your friend since kindergarden. You had a sudden, very important case and you had to go for it now. Immediately. And a that friend keeps nagging you to explain yourself. And if you don't pick up your phone, she gets mad even when you go to meet her (but another case came up) and calls her occasionally. She isn't even your girl. I'll get angry. Luckily, Shinichi saw her pain as Conan and reprociate her love. If not, he'll get irritated too. This is obsession. No, not really, but her need of attention is overdose.
-
Sorry, really. I apologize. I was and still am an immature child dislike Ran-like girls because of a personal experience. Honestly, I apologize. It's not the childhood romance I dislike them from, I have nothing against childhood romances. It's Ran I had a problem with. She has the right to fight for it, sure, but getting angry isn't the part of it. It's Shinichi's life, and it didn't belong to her in any way. Again, I'm sorry. I honestly wish I can start over again. But for now, I apologize. Really, sorry. To all Ran fans.

Who's better off with Shinichi? Haibara Ai or Ran??

^forgive me for the typos, by the way. I didn't sleep well, so the sleepiness had caught up on me and I was using an Ipad, which was understandably harder than laptops. -
Who's better off with Shinichi? Haibara Ai or Ran??
GrimmReaper replied to Chianti's topic in General
There are good points, but I'd add something which was comepletely my own opinion. Kay? I always took chemistry as 'the complex emotional or psychological interaction between two people', directly from a dictionary. I had always simplify it as 'love' and I meant 'sex love' or the 'love' our parents have. Or, the deep relationship betwen friends. I had read a lot of books and mangas and animes, and Shinichi and Ran's relationship isn't 'deep' to me. Maybe it's just because we didn't get too much of ShinRan from childhood, but I didn't see the deepness. I may have gone overboard by saying Ran and Shinichi has zero chemistry (sorry), but by general, it means that they aren't boyfriend and girlfriend. They are just teenagers having a crush. When a boy and girl spends too much time together, it happens (Again, my opinion) and I'm pretty sure they don't go 'click'. Ran didn't share the same interest with Shinichi and vice versa. I also didn't see any time they had a conversation about something nor they show signs of 'understanding each other'. Don't mess up the difference between quality and quantity of time. She is quite used to him solving cases, sure. But getting angry for not picking up his phone I can confirm. In the 'Edogawa Conan disappears, the worst two days in history' or something similar, Shinichi is in the city, he saved Conan (a child who fell unconsious in the bath), or so Ran thought. She cheers up, and proceed to call him. The reciever (or something. I wasn't good with languages) answered, which angers her. And what exactly was she angry with. If she was mad Shinichi didn't call her when he was in the city (which still didn't male sense. Did Shinichi owe her something? Did I miss an episode?), she would've get angry immediately when she heard the news. It may be my mistake in memory, it was quite long ago. I'd back off if that was the case. And your second point. She grew up as a policeman's daughter. That is a mistake and I'll regard it as a typo on your part. She's a detective's daughter, mind you. And that got nothing to do with anything. Her father was at work, and Ran was a school, or home. She didn't trot around with him on every case. She lived a normal, seperate life. For example, was a policeman's daughter used to corpses or guns? Wait, that's beside the point. Anyway, having a detective for a daughter and a detective for a partner is two different things. What!/ more is the difference in level. And what I find entertaining on DC is how Conan got stuck on crazy cases. Cases even normal detective wouldn't get stuck on, and most definitely not Kogoro. Note how rashly Shinichi acted sometimes. He sometimes conforts the culprit himself (not that Kogoro didn't, but hey, he has a reason to do so. Like, the culprit is his friend) like the culprit who commited suicide in front of him. What if, the culprit panicked and attacked him instead (it's a possibility). It's not nessecarily a bad thing, but can be dangerous. And like the movie of the serial killer, the sniper case? I doubt he would've acted differently if he was Shinichi. What if Ran knew what he was doing? Well, you can imagine. If Ran, as you said 'click' with and understood him, she'll know what he'll do, which is getting killed trying to save the victim (if Sera didn't interfere). What will Ran do, if Shinichi found a similar case near future and actually explained it to her. She'll stop him, definitely. And Conan didn't have cases. To her, he is just a kid who often gets in cases or just happens to tag along. And Kogoro didn't interfere with cases like that, or rather, we haven't seen him did. Ran didn't have much reason to worry about her father, thus, not used to 'it'. Plus, he's a full grown man martial artist. He can handle himself just fine. And Shinichi? He has brains and can kick a ball (and a vase, and a lot of other things). But he's not a trained police, nor was Ran. And I don't see him training anytime soon. And again, I was distracted. Sorry. POINT : Not every case can be 'explained'. Some cases must be kept in the dark or too long to explain. Or if explained, will bring no good. Shinichi emcountered a lot of cases like this, unfortunately. And even if he explained it to her, she'll still worry. I mentioned 'worry' several times up there. Why does she go completely nuts when he does it? Sorry, I never remembered mentioning anything like 'nuts'. I said, she'll worry and somethimes, get angry. And I didn't remember she getting Conan out of danger. If any, SHE gets into danger all the time. What happens to all 'Save me, Shinichi'? And she's just as reckless as Shinichi, honestly. Eg. that writer case. When the dead writer's brother want to find the killer. And Sera (Sonoko too, if I remember right) and Ran is there. Policemans are out there, trying to shoot that brother and Sera is trying to lead that brother to the windoe, where polices get a full view of the brother. And what did Ran do? She shuts the window, because she felt that Shinichi wouldn't do it. So, there is your father, 3 suspects (two of them innocent), your friends and your life in there which you would give up because YOU FELT THAT SHINICHI WON'T DO IT. Tell me how exactly she understood the danger of detective life when she didn't understood the danger of someone wielding a gun and had bombs on him. You tell me that she is the Watson for Shinichi which brought us to the next case. Ai is more capable for being Conan's Watson. She has shown herself smarter than Conan several times (Calico cat case, ect), and impressed at Conan's deductions often too. And you seem to not understand Watson's role in Sherlock's life. As a Sherlock fan, I feel the need to make it clear. Since Sherlock isn't exactly a 'people person', Watson acts as a tons of role. His best friend, his confident, his partner. (Conan confirmed the partner thing, btw). Watson isn't smart at cases (but Ai is, she just can't stand out much. BO and all. Which is why I said she is partly 'Irene', the only woman Sherlock held in admiration. The only woman who can match Sherlock intellectually, and sometimes, outwit him. {again, look at Calico cat case}). Watson often follows Sherlock to cases, and can sometimes help. Plus, Watson is more to the science than mystery and plotting. Which is also Ai, an accomplished chemist at age 18. And as an extra, I'll make it clear Ai is only partly Irene Alder. I don't know how of Conan admires her or not (again, Sherlock admires Alder) and Ai is a good singer, just has a voice too deep for her age (Alder is a great singer). Ai can act well, just in the wrong body -Baker Street movie- (Alder can act well too), she has a sharp edge to her voice (Alder has a sharp tounge). She is just, unsurprisingly paranoid and not a master of disguise. Ran serves as Watson to Conan reguraly? What do you think Watson is to Sherlock? His wife? Lastly, roughly ten years ago. Honestly, look at DC mere carefully. Your roughly 'ten years ago' is just a few months or heck, days in DC. So. My fingers need a rest. I hope I got all my points across. Amd I didn't get the 'quote' thing, so I didn't use it. But is is for @Serinox kay? But I love arguing, so if someone's opinion differ please do. -
Ai, if you look at how much she's gone through the second she was born.... She just need a big hug, no? (Just kidding. She needs someone who understood her)
-
Ran, no competition. She's just a high school girl having a fell in love on a famous high school detective who happens to be her childhood friend. When a girl spends too much time with a cool, famous male, it happens. She doesn't own him, and face the fact: They have zero chemistry. She cries a lot, just because her (supposedly) one-sided childhood friend crush is off to do his job (or so she thinks), and his job happens ti have its dangers. He came back and calls occasionally. If you're asking for more that's called selfish. He has no obligation to call and meet you. I believe I have posted the rest of my opinion about her and ShinRan somewhere else, and I don't want to repeat them again. As you can see, I despise angelic characters who are filled with jealousy to the max. And Ran happens to be a damsel in distress and has a black belt in karate. I don't know much about MAs, but I know that professionals are expected to be calmer than 'normal people'. Not crying and lacking trust in her friends (to make it clear, what I mean by this is how she didn't trust Shinichi enough to take care of himself. Not that I blame her, but surely, Shinichi has a way to handle bad guys one way or another. Like this unearthly soccer, for one). To prevent unecessary flame, I'll add something: Ran is sweet, I'll admit that. I'd be heads over heels on her if such person exist. But problem is, she's an anime character. There are thousands of possibility where she could be unique. And frankly, she's a definition for cliché and lacks depth, especially as a reoccuring protagonist. Point is: ShinRan isn't happening.

It means 'fine' or 'exellent'. And it was sarcasm, btw. I'm so tired I could die.
-
Oi, oi. :V I do not know what the problem is but wishing death is never an answer.
-
I used to despise her strongly, to the point I dedicate my life bashing her and chasing away her fans on the net (I get it, shame on me). But for some reason, it died off. Anyway, for me it was because of her signifigance to the plot, yet the amount of screentime she have and did not deserve. I would've loved DC if Shinichi went out with Kazuha and Heiji (in this imaginary universe, they took Ran's place), and things go on from there. It would've been much more entertaining, in my opinion. She gets in almost all of the episodes, yet she didn't change much. She did change one thing, from the comic relief violence to the distress-mode damsel. It's annoying. Face it, Shinichi isn't even her boyfriend. Just a childhood friend. Ran didn't own him. So my lifelong friend who happens to be my crush is going to a long case to do his job. All I'll get is a few occasional meetings and phone calls. That's good enough for me. He isn't even my boyfreind after all. My love is (supposedly) one-sided. But no. She just have to go around like she owns him. He doesn't pick up his phone? Get angry. He's being irritating? Act cranky. Sure, she has her understanding moments too (Like that valentine chapter, for one), but her annoying moments shadows everything else. Especially if you had been hating her for that long. But honestly, Shinichi have no obligation to call her, right? I don't even know why he bothers. They're childhood friends. There are a lot of people with more than one childhood friends on the globe, and should they call each of them and go meet them everytime their job took them away? Is having friends such a hassle? Anyway, she doesn't have a huge impact to the plot after like, 600 episodes, at least? None of them brought great impact to the plot. A few of the character twist the plot an episode of their appearance, but Ran... And one more thing, does every movie require her being saved? Can't she help herself just once? She knows karate, right? She can bend a pole, break a table. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but how could one has such unearthly power but hasn't saved herself once? And one more, she should stop crying that much and actually do something about the situation if she hate it that much.

Who's better off with Shinichi? Haibara Ai or Ran??
GrimmReaper replied to Chianti's topic in General
By the way you put your words, who's better off with Shinichi, not who Shinichi is better off with, I'd say Ai. To support my theory, say, Shinichi took the permanent antidote, grows up, marries Ran and continues his job as a detective. That's the ideal situation, no? But what if he have to go somewhere else for real this time? His work will be disturbed by Ran, that's for sure. If Ran was crying and worrying and getting angry this much before they even had a drop of chemistry (no, blushing and fidgeting is NOT chemistry), I can see how bad it will be in the future. Must be tiring. Even if he works 'local-only', things can still get pretty hectic, no? If Conan gets involved with that much danger when he's a child, one must wonder how wild things will get for Shinichi. And how much Ran will worry (not to mention angry). I don't see how a hen with a troublesomely curious chick can be happy. Worst case imaginable, Shinichi have to abandon his job as a detective. Ai on the other hand, is fitting for Shinichi. She understood his job and the danger he can get in. She can get him out of danger too, I persume. I can't see her fussing over him. Worried for him, maybe. But getting mad for not picking up his phone and cry over him? No way. If any, she can give him her support and be his Watson (plus Irene). Hell, she can just go for detective work too. After losing so much, I felt Ai should have someone who truly understood her. I can't see anyone else for her. [Note: Like I warned you, I'll be ignoring Shinichi's view here] Ran on the other hand, can fit in with practically everybody. That's her positive side, so use it for goodness sake. Let go of your teenage crush and find your own life to live.
