  1. Okay, as I have said in many of my posts, my reading of the manga is progressing much slower than my watching of the anime. I am thinking now that this may be a good thing, as I can view the earlier cases I am reading in light of the later episodes I've seen, as well as discussions I have read on here. It is in this way that I just spotted something that I think might be a hint towards the identity of the Black Organization. Please note that I said the Organization, not the boss. There is already a thread for that, as well as threads about the Organization's goals, but I couldn't find any about the true name/identity of the Organization as a whole, so I decided to start one myself. If you have any thoughts on my theory and want to help develop it further, then please contribute. If you have your own theory and want to express it, please feel free to do so. If you are Aoyama-sensei and want to use my thread as a means to reveal the truth behind the Black Organization, then...I am just speechless! Anyways, in the manga, I just read the case with the gathering of detectives at the Sunset Mansion and something caught my eye. In a lot of discussions, I have seen several people associate the Black Organization with crows. I believe I even remember hearing Haibara say in the anime that the Boss wants the Organization's members to appear like crows, hence the black theme. Plus the reference to crows in Nanatsu no Ko, the starting notes of which the Boss purposefully chose for an e-mail address. Now, as I am on episode 730 without rewatching any earlier cases, I don't remember many of the small details from the gathering of detectives case on the anime, so it may or may not be that the hint I just caught in the manga did not survive the adaptation to the anime (although, I have to be honest, it's just as likely I have forgotten about it because I did not yet realize the significance). Either way... In the manga case, the story was recounted to the gathered detectives about the man who had previously owned the mansion and passed away, then many people gathered there for an auction of his belongings. As the story was told, it was stated that the man had been a member of a group known as the Crow Association. It was even alluded to that this Crow Association might have had something to do with the massacre that ensued during the auction, if not the man's death in the first place. Crows. Associated with a shady organization. Hmm. Now, the manga said the Crow Association disappeared about 40 years before the current story. Is it possible that, when the Crow Association disappeared, they hadn't disbanded, but merely went into hiding? Is it then possible that the hidden Crow Association is the true identity of the Black Organization? Granted, the only name mentioned as being connected to the Crow Association was the man whoowned the mansion, but it wouldn't be much of n association if he was the only member, so surely there were others. It has also been stated that Haibara would be able to figure out who the Boss is if she heard the true name of the Black Organization. Is it not possible that the reason for that is because of that person's previous known connection to the Crow Association? Another possibility, though slim, is that the man who owned the mansion and supposedly died 40 years earlier, Karasuma Renya, didn't actually die but instead went into hiding and he actually IS Anokata. Karasuma. Karasu. Crow. Again with the crows. And Aoyama-sensei has said that Anokata's fill name has been given already. Thoughts? Rebuttals? Accusations of insanity? Let me know what you guys think.
  2. Thank you. I wish it didn't have the reruns that weren't remastered in there to confuse things, but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
  3. I am getting really tired of this "if it's not in the manga it doesn't matter" BS. The manga is great because without it there wouldn't be a Detective Conan anime, but these people that troll the forums throwing out posts like "if it didn't happen in the manga, it's not real," "if that character wasn't in the manga, they don't really exist," and so on. I thought I might get away from it coming specifically to the anime forum, but I'm seeing it here too! And I'm appalled! I personally enjoy all of Conan, and truth be told, some of my least favorite episodes have actually been adapted from the manga (gasp, blasphemy!!!), while some anime originals rank among my favorites. Those trolls just need to get over themselves and stop belittling the series they CLAIM to be fans of and its TRUE fans who are trying to enjoy the show and discuss it! And as for whether the movies, OVAs, and other anime originals are "canon," he'll yes they are!!! They were created under the official license by the company that holds the rights. It's like trying to say the new Star Wars movies aren't canon because George Lucas didn't write them. It's laughable! As the old saying goes, if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything at all! For the REAL fans (that is, the ones who really love this series and will give any episode or movie a fair chance whether it appeared in Aoyama-sensei's original manga or not), I apologize for subjecting you to this rant. On the other hand, there is no reason for someone to take offense to this post UNLESS they are one of the trolls that do this. And to those trolls, I am most definitely NOT sorry for offending you! Get over yourselves!!!
  4. Perhaps I misunderstood something, but I thought it was stated the Black Organization case was unofficial. There was a little bit on that in the thread "BO' s existence" (where I described my theory about James Black). I am actually still not 100% convinced that the investigation into the Black Organization isn't officially sanctioned by the FBI. I think James Black had too many agents at his disposal in the Red and Black arc for it to be so, I only stated it that way because (from what I've seen), that seems to be the common consensus. And really, whether the investigation is official or not is completely off the point of this topic. What I am asking in this thread is whether it is possible and plausible that the reason Akai is after the Organization is because they tried to kill his mother. The official status of the FBI investigation into the Black Organization has nothing to do with that.
  5. It was stated when Conan found out that Jodie-sensei was FBI. She asked him not to tell anyone about her involvement because it was unofficial and thus (technically) an illegal investigation. It was restated in the case when Andre Camel was a suspect. Jodie showed up and told Megure that Camel was FBI and made up the story about him being her lover and them being on vacation together because revealing that they were investigating in Japan without the knowledge or approval of the government might cause international conflict.
  6. I just noticed that, in my previous post, my autocorrect for some reason, changed the word "real" to "reality" in a few places, and I apologize for that. But that is not the main reason I am making another post. I remembered something more about copyrights from my time in the printing industry. While a regular name (like Conan) cannot be copyrighted as I previously stated, a full name can. For example, Luke Skywalker is a copyrighted name that can only be used with permission from Lucasfilm. This, however would not apply in the situation with Detective Conan versus Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Cimmerian. If Conan the Barbarian/Conan the Cimmerian even has a full name, I am fairly certain that it is not Detective Conan, therefore, even though the copyright holder of CtB/CtC may not LIKE it if there was an American release of DC actually called Detective Conan, they really couldn't do anything about it as it wouldn't truly infringe on their copyright. Likewise for Conan O'Brien, or any other Conan's that happen to be running around out there. The most they could do is copyright their full names and any specific titles they have used.
  7. Okay, so I have been watching through everything Conan (currently up to episode 730) and I have noticed something of a pattern. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that nearly everyone that is trying to bring down the Black Organization has some personal reason for doing so. Jodie-sensei's father was killed by the Organization. Haibara/Miyano Shiho's sister (And possibly her parents as well) was killed by them. Andre Camel is dedicated to Akai after blowing his cover in the Organization, and Wil thus do anything to help him stop them. Hondou Hidemi's father died because of the Organization (even though they didn't directly kill him). And Conan, of course, was poisoned by them and reverted to a child's body. The most notable omissions from that list are James Black (who I have a theory about, though I won't get into it here) and Akai Shuichi. But why does Akai want so badly to take down the Black Organization? Well, let's start by looking at the facts. The FBI' s search for the Organization is unofficial. What does that mean to this discussion? Well, since it's not an official operation, Akai couldn't have simply been assigned to the case. For him to be this deeply involved in a case that he wasn't assigned to, it has to be personal. Next, Sera Masumi is Akai's sister. How is this relevant to Akai's connection to the Organization? Well, Sera seems to know Conan's secret even though she has never been told and is not at all shocked by or disbelieving of the idea that the high school detective has been somehow turned into a child, meaning she must have seen something similar before. The prevalent theory seems to be that the mysterious Mary (whom I actually have yet to see, though I know about through accidentally reading some spoilers) is Sera's mother, and presumably Akai's. The most commonly cited evidence is that Sera calls her Mama. It also seems as though Sera and Mary on on the run (according to those same spoilers I mentioned before). But why? This is where everything comes together to form one theory. Is it possible that Mary was formerly associated with the Black Organization? Perhaps she betrayed them, or simply outlived her usefulness, and they decided to eliminate her. What if, to do so, they gave Mary APTX-4869, or an earlier form of the drug, but rather than killing her, it reverted her to a child's body just like Conan and Haibara? It is commonly accepted that APTX-4869's de-aging side effect reverts a person specifically to a child's body, rather than just knocking off 10 years. If we figure that, like Conan and Haibara, Mary was made to appear about 7 years old by the drug, and assume that aging would happen normally from that point, it can be deduced that Mary was given the drug about 5-6 years before the present story, as she now appears to be about 12 or 13. The timing of this is important because it is the key to everything. After being poisoned by the Organization, Mary goes to her family, most likely out of fear that the Organization will harm them as well. Akai then has Sera and their mother go into hiding while he goes after the Organization to stop them and/or get revenge for their attempted murder of his mother (btw, do we know what happened to the father? Is it possible that he too was killed by the Organization?). Why is the timing important? Because after those events, Akai needs time to find and get close to the Organization to infiltrate them (remember, the Black Organization is supposed to be a secret criminal syndicate that nobody outside of their own membership knows about, so such a group would be very difficult to find). Perhaps he was already FBI at the time his mother was poisoned, or perhaps he joined so he could make use of their resources to aid in his search, t which time he learned about other agents bearing a personal vendetta against the Organization. Either way, with the help of the FBI, Akai was finally able to track them down and gain their trust enough to join (though the events with agent Camel show they still felt it necessary to test him). From that point, events played out as we have seen on the show. So, in short, my theory is an extension of the "Mary was poisoned by the Organization" theory, stating that the poisoning of his mother is the reason Akai is so dedicated to bringing down the Black Organization. What do you guys think? Plausible? Possible? Let me know?
  8. Is there a list of exactly what episodes have been remastered? I know that the complete episode list includes the remastered ones in the order everything originally aired, but I am hoping for a list, ordered by episode number, of just the remastered ones. Can anyone help?
  9. But they could use Detective Conan in the title of the Lupin crossovers US release. Plus, you can't copyright a reality name. The full titles Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Cimmerian are surely copyrighted, but if just the name Conan was able to be, nobody else with that name could ever use it (Conan O'Brien, etc.), especially not in a title. It is for that very reason that a copyright won't be issued on a reality name, because real names fall under fair use. Now, an invented and unusual name could probably be copyrighted (like Kingdom Hearts' Xehanort, for example), but Conan doesn't qualify. And as for the reason the names were changed for Case Closed, I struggle with the idea that it was because of legal/copyright issues. You expect me to believe that the American companies releasing it were granted the right to completely reproduce Detective Conan image for image, but NOT use the names? I don't buy it. Especially since the Funimation DVDs included Japanese audio as well as English, and the accompanying subtitles accurately carried over the Japanese names (a friend of mine had every DVD of the series that Funimation released, so I know from watching them as I always watch my anime subbed if the option exists).
  10. I understand that is is an unofficial operation, that isn't the question. My question is why, since it is unofficial, does Black have so many agents working with him on it? If it is truly unofficial, there should only be a few, specifically the ones that have some personal connection to the case.

Why am I unable to read Cocoa moth's posts? All I can see is "--" for the text of those posts and for the name of the thread. I can see everyone else's just fine though.
  12. I once read the first volume of a manga called Remote, which gave me a similar vibe. At the time, it reminded me more of the Lincoln Rhyme series of novels (an investigator with superior knowledge of forensics and investigation technique directing someone else to process crime scenes in his place from a remote location). However, looking at it purely as a manga, it has many parallels to Conan. Both solve realistic crimes and rely on real evidence to determine the culprit. Like Conan, the primary investigator in Remote makes use of another person to complete his investigations (Not necessarily for delivering the deductions as Conan does, but to find the evidence in his stead since he can't go out and do it himself, due to agoraphobia if I remember correctly). The main difference is that Remote had a somewhat darker tone as I recall. Still, if you like Conan, I Remote is worth checking out.
  13. My biggest question about the FBI is, why, if the hunt for the Organization is not an official operation, did Black have so many agents at his disposal in the Red and Black arc? Jodie-sensei is involved because she wants to take down the people behind her father's death. If my theory about James Black is right, then we know his reasons as well. Camel is involved because he owes it to Akai after blowing his cover. And I believe that Akai has his own personal reasons for going after the Organization (that's a whole different theory that I won't go into here). Are we to believe that every one of those agents had some personal grudge against the Organization? Or that the FBI allows their senior agents to call out numerous agents overseas outside their jurisdiction with no explanation for some private (And illegal) investigation? But if it's not one of those two things, why else would they all be there?
  14. Here's an interesting theory. If Jodie-sensei's father was FBI, what if James Black was his partner? His age would be about right. This would explain Black being so protective and fatherly toward her. It would also explain why he is so deeply involved in the hunt for the Organization, carrying on the legacy of his fallen partner and friend. And even if Jodie-sensei's dad never reported his investigation to his FBI superiors as Alyssa225 suggested, he probably would have mentioned something to his partner, who would certainly have noticed him conducting a private, off the books investigation. So, even if he didn't know everything Jodie-sensei's father had discovered, he would have known a little bit. Add to that Jodie's witness statement following her father's murder, and he would almost certainly have begun investigating on his own after that. In the intervening 20 years, he could have learned a great deal. So, what do you guys think of this theory?
  15. But I have noticed that many episodes don't include a lot of the characters and make little or no reference to the overall plotline of the series. For example, most of the Shonen Tantei episodes, amd a lot of the random cases could fit just about anywhere, limited only by the seasons in which they take place (yes, there are some that must occur in a certain order or must at least follow certain other episodes, but largely, they are random). With that in mind, I think it wouldn't be too difficult to find a timeline if I could just get a detailed list of episodes telling all definitively given dates and seasons when they take place. If I could get my hands on such a list to start from, I would have no problem spending the time to try to find a working timeline. It would be an interesting way to fill my time.
  16. But, if we are working from the idea that the series is presented out of order, then it becomes possible that Ran's assertion that less than a year had passed in episode 772 actually PRECEDED the events in episode 501-504, so at the point when she said that it had still been less than a year.
  17. While I agree that Ran and Shinichi love each other, and that they almost certainly will be together atthe ending of the series, I think the pairing of Ayumi and Conan is cute and fun, and I wish it would happen. However, because Shinichi is in love with Ran, there are very few ways it could happen believable. That is where I am going with my fanfic. So don't expect me to throw Ayumi and Conan together as a couple right from the start. It will be a few chapters in, at least, before I start to work them together, as there are other threads of the story that must be tired up first. I want it to feel realistic to the story after all. As for when I will really get to work on my fanfic, I want to catch up watching the anime first, just in case I come across any plot points I want to include, or if I find a definite point where I want my fic to diverge from the actual series. Now, I am currently up to episode 651, so it shouldn't be extremely long before I am caught up and get started in earnest. I estimate it will be two weeks to a month. As soon as I have finished chapter one, I will post a link to it here. So just keep checking. After all, I may get through the rest of the series faster than I expect.
  18. But, off the top of my head, I only recall one Valentine's Day story (when they took Ran and Sonoko to make chocolates), one White Day story, one Christmas story, and so on. As for New Year's; yes, the first episode broadcast each year starts with the characters wishing the audience a happy new 2, but that's not part of the story. I actually can't recall and episode that included New Year's Eve/Day in the story. Now, I admittedly have a lousy memory, so it could just be that I'm not remembering, or it could be that there are repeated holidays after episode 651 (which is how far I currently have gotten). Still, I think this might be an idea worth exploring. Again, just a thought that occurred to me.
  19. I'm probably going to wait until I catch up (on the anime, not the manga) before I get started in earnest on my Ayumi/Conan fic, and I will most likely want to knock out at least four or five chapters of that before I do anything with my Shin/Ran ideas. But as I am on episode 646 and have less than 200 to go, it shouldn't be extremely long before I start writing. A month at the most.
  20. I was thinking some more about this and these two things kind of stuck with me. @Chekhov MacGuffin is absolutely right, the seasons and dates are all over the place, which makes @Heliotropic's statement accurate as well. Then another idea hit me. What if the series is out of order?! What if we grouped all of the winter episodes together, all of the spring episodes together, all of the summer episodes together, and all of the autumn episodes together? We then would arrange within each season according to any specifically mentioned dates and references to earlier events. In this way, the Shonen Tantei cases could fit into gaps where the series specifically states a period of time between cases at the Mouri Detective Agency. Another reason this could work is the number of episodes following the introduction of Haibara where she doesn't appear and isn't even mentioned. In fact, MUCH of the series as a whole seems random and largely disconnected, which would lend itself to rearranging the episodes into a more cohesive timeline. If someone can post or send me a list of episodes broken down by seasons, I will gladly take the time to go through and see if I can collate them into a new timeline and we can see if that supports the findings of myself and of @DCUniverseAficionado or points us to some other time frame for the series thus far.
  21. Certainly! I am not saying she wouldn't understand the chemistry of it. If she was given a chemical formula by her superiors and told to work from that, she would absolutely discover that it is a stable formula and all sorts of properties of that formula, but there would be no reason for her to even consider that the formula had any type of connection to a type of Chinese liquor, so it would actually be quite surprising if she DID realize it was connected to the Baigar. Agreed once again! Given her parents' research by her superiors, as I said, she would test the previous findings and learn the properties of the base formula in order to continue the research herself. She would not necessarily have to know the purpose of the proposed base compound in order to do her own research, only the properties of it so she could determine its potential chemical reactions when combined with other ingredients.Furthermore, do we know the circumstances under which both of Haibara's parents died (seriously, do we? I am around episode 640 now, plus I don't clearly recall the references I've already seen to her parents)? Is it possible her father and/or mother was specifically ordered to create the compound I've proposed that would react with the Baigar in secret, without listing its purpose in their research notes? Is it not also possible that, upon completing that compound, that was when Anokata decided to kill them so they could not disclose the true purpose of that compound to anyone? Or perhaps even staged their death and had them locked away to continue their research independently of Sherry's? Just thoughts, but I really think it could fit and answer a few questions.
  22. Okay, I am going to list everything I have found so far, along with what sites stream them for free for any interested fellow fans (who, like me, are too broke to spend a fortune on DVDs or paid streaming services). If you know a site that streams something I am not listing, please post it. Anime TV series episodes 1-current, animetv.io movies 1-19, animetv.io OVAs 1-12, animetv.io live action drama specials 1-2, youtube.com Detective Conan vs. Wooo episode 1, youtube.com live action drama series episodes 1-13 and special 4, kissasian.com Magic Kaito special episodes 1-12 (listed as Detective Conan: Kid the Phantom Thief), animetv.io Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie, animetv.io The Fugitive Mouri Kogoro, animetv.io The Disappearance of Edogawa Conan: The Worst Two Days in History, animetv.io (NOTE: the word "detective does not appear in the listing for this one) Magic Kaito 1412 episodes 1-24, animetv.io Things I am still looking for (so please tell me if you know where to find them, along with anything I haven't mentioned): Time Travel of the Silver Sky Live action drama special 3 Detective Conan vs. Wooo episode 2 Lupin III vs. Detective Conan TV special (my friend with the DVD fell through) If that helps anyone, great. If anyone can help me, also great. Thanks, all!
  23. @Antiyonder, I agree that the reveal could be done without putting Ran in danger, and even her acceptance of it; I just think that having it that way would be the most dramatically intense. I do, however, really like the idea of Ran doing some investigating of her own leading up to the discovery. Perhaps she does her investigating, has it completely figured out, right down to the Black Organization even, but it isn't confirmed yet, then the some member of the Organization notices her investigating and thinks the BO is her target and goes after her. This could then leads to a situation such as I described, where either saving Ran will confirm what her investigation found and reveal his identity to her, or revealing his identity to her will save her life. I like the idea of combining both of those: Ran's detective work AND the dramatically intense saving Ran by revealing himself. Oh, and just by the way, I am now up to episode 640 of the anime series (going much slower in the manga; only on chapter 291). @Ayuna Yume, thanks, I'm glad you like my idea. I might work it into a fanfic of my own (though the one I am currently working on is a Ayumi/Conan fic, so it will be a different one). If I do so, I will make sure to post a link to it on this topic (if you're interested in the Ayumi/Conan series I'm starting, keep an eye on the "Conan x Ayumi" topic as I will post links there once I get the first chapter finished, which I will probably do around the time I catch up with the anime).
  24. Right, Haibara was unaware of the effect the Baigar would have prior to that case. And I also believe that you are right about her basing her own research on that of her parents. Therefore, is it not possible that she was instructed to include a certain part of the previous research without explaining why (after all, the Baigar was supposed to be a SECRET antidote, and I can easily imagine the Black Organizatioin giving orders without explanations)? And, isn't it also possible that the theoretical base component that reacts to the Baigar was also stored elsewhere and thus escaped the fire that destroyed the rest of the research? After all, as you said, she "started it ALMOST from scratch." If a base component like I've described was developed first and then all of the research stemmed from that, those initial findings would naturally have already been turned in by whatever previous scientist created it, meaning Sherry could have gone to whoever was her direct superior following the lab fire to get that original formula to resume her research. Or, she might have kept a copy of the original formula in her own separate records, along with any particularly promising developments she might have made during her own research, then used that to restart the research following the fire. There are all sorts of ways it could work out for such a compound to be built into the formula for APTX-4869 without Sherry knowing about it, and just as many ways for the Organization to make sure she included the compound in her continuing research. I just think it kind of fits, and it would explain a lot.
