[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 945-947 Shuukichi's Envelope Case

Here is my cleaned undistorted, rotated version of the code panel for your solving convenience. It's not perfectly square, but it's close enough for most needs. It may be that the solution is not too complicated. -

That shadow person in the MI6 category... That's a pretty strong indication of what's coming.

CREDIT TO Spimer AT DCTP FOR THE TRANSLATIONS Here are the Let's talk with Aoyama Gosho-sensei day questions from Jan 3, 2016. There was very little time for questions at the end because there were many events before the questions. 1Q: Ran's always using a Gallpagos phone: won't she switch to a smartphone at some point? 1A: W-well... You're right. It's a complicated topic... Well... Hum... It feels a bit ankward that it doesn't close somewhat but... Maybe I'll change it someday, or so I think from time to time... Sorry. 2Q: Volume 85, when Bourbon and Vermouth are talking about how Gin suspects spies are getting in: is that foreshadowing? 2A: Foreshadowing, huh. Well... Yes, it is. This year's movie will be more or less about that so... 3Q: Well... Someone asked to me ask this but... Kir, Bourbon, Cherry (guess he meant to say Sherry), their eyes turn into foreigners when BO mode: are they mixed race? 3A: Ah... No, nott really. When Conan gets surprised he also gets foreigner-like eyes so... I draw them like that when I want to portray scared eyes: there's no special meaning to them. Sorry. But they maybe (some odd word: apparently Gosho can't come up with the word he wants to use) half, even. (According to the person who wrote this it might be that he was trying to think of alternative word to "half", another way to tell mixed race characters apart) 4Q: Now... This year's film "The Darknest Nightmare": what color feelings do you think we should give to this pitch black movie? What's the fitting color in your opinion? 4A: Huh! That's a bit dangerous (in the sense that he has to avoid spoilers). Hum... Well, I guess each viewer should choose their own color... I think. It's a bit hard to say. Sorry. 5Q: Volume 88. Sato's flashy outfit: are those plain clothes? In the same volume: Takagi Wataru is wearing flashy too but has his police notebook got downgraded to senior policeman, did you know? He should be a police sergeant but both the Shonen Sunday chapter and the volume chapter read "senior policeman". 5A: It got mistaken with police sergeant. Sorry, I meant, he IS a police sergeant. And... Maybe Sato's plain clothes were borrowed frum Yumi? Incidentally, the next case involves Yumi and Sato... Well... That's... It begins with a scene having the 2 of them walking in front of Shinjuku's Alta. (Fashion store in Tokyo) Chuukichi also shows up. 6Q: Is there a "fake" (a red herring) in the manga that no-one's noticed yet? 6A: Ah... Huh... There is. No-one's noticed it yet. It'll soon be reffered to. In Volume 18 (speculated to be the APTX victim list and the "Haneda" name there) 7Q: Eh... I think that there might be people like Amuro or Akai from the PSB or the FBI sneaking int the BO but... Could there be the inverse, that BO are sneaking into Japanese police or FBI or in Conan's surroundings? 7A: Ah... You bring up a painful topic... (Might be his way of saying: "I won't tell you") 8Q: Could they be inside of characters who've already shown up or will show up in the future? 8A: That's... welll... No comment. Please switch question topic. 9Q: Also... Maybe you can't tell us but... Who's the girl that Sera's hiding? 9A: I can't say that but... Really. Are there no other topics? 10Q: Also... Maybe you can't tell us but... Is Vermouth an ally? 10A: Huh? I can't say that. Really. An ally? (Looks troubled). Are you finished? 11Q: Vermouth and Shinichi's mom knew other as fellow actresses but... Both know a lot about each other and seem to get along pretty well but... How should I put it like...? How well do they get along? 11A: Well... They're both actresses. 12Q: I meant: how do they get along about how they know a lot about each other? 12A: Not really. 13Q: Please give us a hint regarding what you've said about that of Volume 18 no-one knows about! 13A: You bring it up...? Why...? I'm saying no-one knows it... Hmmmm... Well... You could say that someone might show up... When you see their name you'll go "Really?" or something like that... Hmmm... Sheesh. Let's leave it at there. You'll enjoy it when you read it so look forward to it. 14Q: Is there someone, some character that proved to be very hard to draw or think of? 14A: Ah. Hmmm... Huh... Not sure... Akai or Gin, maybe. I wanted them to be cool and scary at the same time and it proved to be hard to. The conté crayons I drew recently ago needed several redos.... It was rather... Hum... Somewhat... Let's leave it at there. If I go I might end up spoilering something so. (Gosho) President: I don't have much time to fix these... (President?) It's a bit wrong... (Gosho) What's a bit wrong? Yeah. You see, it became like a hoodlum, even. Felt like behaving like Gin, even. 15Q: What's with Ran's hairstyle? 15A: Ah. Sorry. That must be it... T-that's, well, ended up like that, I guess. Hmmm... I wanted it to be a hairstyle with style so... I went with that symbol... Or, rather... ... Make it so that you can tell it's Ran even from a distance. Like when she's in the midst of a crowd... So that's why I made it like that. Sorry. More like AstroBoy's angel head.

This part in particular doesn't make a lot of logical sense. You could have just said "HEIHACHIROU SHIOTA" has seven Japanese syllables in it which matches the name of the song Nanatsu no Ko. (Well it kind of has eight, with the long ou) Picking a random point in the middle to cut off the Nanatsu no Ko song doesn't really mean anything. I could apply that logic to the first opening: むねのドキドキ "Mu ne no DO KI DO KI " 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 The boss's phone number is 9 keypunches long anyway. That covers the first verse: "Karasu naze nakuno" (BAGA BGEGD). The keypunch sounds covers just the first 8 syllables, rather than 9 because the ra syllable has two notes. I don't think the boss can be an AO character based on how Gosho's writes. He ascribes to the philosophy that all mysteries in the manga can be solved only using the manga. Everything that is in AO episodes and movies is extra and not necessary. The boss being an AO character would break this rule of "manga canon". The other thing is that I don't think using numbers or letters in the "Illuminati confirmed" style will ever lead to a good theory for who the boss is. I have found that only western-style conspiracy books use that sort of thing as a plot device. (I think the origins of this numbermancy style come from the hebrew bible where the jews would use cryptic methods to come up with numbers to replace words that authorities didn't like. They could get their message across without alerting outsiders to what they were talking about.) Gosho and East Asian writers in general like puns and double meanings more. (See all the Kaitou Kid/Samizu Kichiemon riddles)

Shuukichi Haneda Discussion Thread
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
I don't think having proof actually matters at all. Someone who strongly and consistently believes Conan and Shinichi are the same person is defined as "knowing the truth." That excludes characters like Ran who aren't consistent, but passes characters like Eisuke, Vermouth, and Masumi who can be counted as knowing the truth prior to forcing it out of Conan's mouth. -

Like this (just ignore the Mouri stuff, that's personal theories)

Haibara and the girl would be first cousins if the "Sister from outside the domain" is the child of Mrs. Akai. Most people speculate that the "Sister from outside the domain" is actually Mrs. Akai, Haibara's aunt, because she seems so mature and unchildlike. People who believe this theory also believe that Mrs. Akai took, or was forced to take, a mysterious drug related to the Black Organization that caused her to shrink to middle school age. She is lying about her true identity and secretly staying in hotels to hide from the Black Organization.
-
I remember there being an interview question about Elena Miyano vs. Vermouth vs. the Unknown child (?) in intelligence and then Gosho saying Elena was the smartest because she made the drug, but I can't find it. That would imply that maybe Ai is one of the smartest chars, at least in science. JimmyKudoTV, help me plz!

I am pretty sure Rum will still fit all three descriptions or we will be shown a picture of what he used to look like in the past as part of a routine case because of Gosho's fairplay style. Also, Aoyama usually layers his mysteries in parallel rather than in series. In the Bourbon arc, Okiya's identity could be solved separately from Akai's faked death strategem. Ditto for Scar Akai and Tooru Amuro. I don't think that Gosho would try to force us to deduce what Rum looked like XX years ago on top of matching him to all three criteria and noticing the fake eye without also shoehorning in some pretty strong hints about the line of inquiry we should be following. (strong hints about the line of inquiry = DB Three different witnesses stabbing case/Rum's appearance question, Shinichi's NY case/Vermouth's disguise level, Shiragami case disguise and motive/Scar Akai disguise and motive, Detective Dude who orders Bourbon in Amuro's intro... etc)
-
Some quick thoughts: There are three-ish general types of communication: 1) Visual In person/video chat/teleconferencing 2) Auditory radio/phone call 3) Written text/email Rum could use a combination of the three which could lead to the confusion. Recall the 252 Subaru case where Agasa was kidnapped. The kidnappers thought Ai was a middle schooler because the childish pitch of her voice + adult way of speaking lead to a confused middle guess between the two. Movie 20 has a reasonable chance of clarifying how Rum likes to talk to other agents even if we don't get any decisive clues about what he looks like. The problem with radio/phone call and text/email is that you can't see any fake eyes. That makes those two methods somewhat unfavorable since everyone seems to know and agree about the false eye. If Rum appears directly in person, most of the agents probably wouldn't be so confused about his appearance, even if he did cover himself up. Video communication is the happy vague medium as it allows significant control over how you appear to others (e.g. always in shadow). As for other ways Rum could be obscured, Rum might always be sitting down because he is confined to a wheelchair for instance. That might make it hard to ascertain his build. If had a injury that took an eye, it might have taken his legs too. Right now, I am still inclined to believe the fake eye that Rum uses in front of the Black Organization is visually stunning: like a mechanical eye with a bright red LED pupil. It's really clear that Gosho is going for different observer perspective/bias = different conclusions scenario for Rum's true appearance. The latest case with the Detective Boys seems to be a very blatant hint for the readers on how to approach the Rum problem. As we start acquiring more suspects while the arc progresses, we are going to to have to work backwards from each suspect's looks and habits to figure out how they could mislead someone in the right scenario. The character who is Rum will have certain behaviors or appearance quirks, which in the right perspective, will definitively create the three observations. Subtle behaviors associated having a fake eye (which will likely be quite inconspicuous when used in public) will confirm Rum's identity. I would be very, very wary of any character who has to turn their face further than expected to look in a particular direction, misses action in their peripheral vision on one side, or positions their body or switches handedness to use the side the good eye is on for certain tasks like shooting or playing pool. Depth perception issues may be used as hints. That means failure to track flying objects, unusual lousyness at catching and all ball games, and unusual cautiousness in setting things down (e.g. putting a glass down and then sliding it to position away from the edge of the table, rather than putting directly into position) to make sure they are put in the right place. (These habits should affect the moving of game pieces in games like Shogi, for instance.) I am still bothered a lot by the infodump about Kuroda Hyoue. I don't think Kuroda is Rum because of his knowledge of Conan, but there was an excessive amount of information about his past that was left in the lurch. Kuroda Hyoue got in an accident 10 years ago and was put into a coma. Hyoue's face was bandaged so that people and even the nurses weren't really clear what he looked like. It was noted that he seems different, he looks quite different from his past appearance, and he has "memory loss". This information hasn't been used in a case yet. While it could be a red herring to make him fit the Rum criteria, I don't think Gosho would just create an elaborate backstory just for that. There must be more to it. I originally speculated in his intro case he was swapped out for someone. While that wasn't true in that murder case, the details of Hyoue's change from his past and current state still work suspiciously well in a swap hypothesis. I am not ready to abandon the idea just yet...

Necroing this topic because I just thought of something. Have Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko ever wondered where Haibara came from and where her real parents are?

I think only mods have delete privileges for pictures. (Because a vandal could sign up and delete all the pictures and then no one could bring them back easily.) I can take care of it.

Favorite Black Organization Episode or Story Arc
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Akazora's topic in Anime series
Reunion with the Black Organization is my favorite. It was a true turning point for the story. Red and Black is next I think. -
A delayed action reaction to the drug? That's the first time I have heard of that theory. Interesting!

A few things I noted. There is another spy not yet listed so far in the notes that flick by at the beginning. The affiliation is "TPP", no picture is listed, and the gender is male. The codename begins with カ or ガ (ka/ga) followed by a イ (i). The alias and real name are both in katakana indicating a foreign person. The alias looks something like グレン(guren) Glen? The real name looks something like (ガカサザ)ボール (gaboru) If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, I recommend setting the video quality to max and the speed to 0.25 under settings. If you want to see the pictures, I have uploaded them here temporarily. You should make your own copy if you would like to keep them long term: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/User:Chekhov_MacGuffin/Latest_case The English writing in the beginning of the trailer in between the spy files appears to be gibberish. It is gramatically incorrect and appears to talk about random things, like mayors, sugar, tequila. From what I can tell, the movie starts and ends at the Ferris wheel in the aquarium park. The Ferris wheel is seen several times in the trailer. Conan is not shown in different outfits. The one he wears at the climax of the movie is the yellow shirt+white jacket. They made Gin's Porsche license plate 4869 again. \o/
