Wait, what is this? Explain please!
-
Item 1: The new topics box has gone missing. I made a test topic to see if that would fix it, but apparently not. This has been a problem for about a day now. Item 2: No more word line wrapping when in plaintext mode during post making. DCW has two modes in which to post which can be changed by clicking a little lightswitch that looks like this. I prefer plaintext so I can see the markup. Formerly lines would wrap in plaintext mode, so you wouldn't have to scroll right one million miles. Now they do not wrap. It's just like if you turn wrapping off in MS textedit. It's really obnoxious. This has been a problem for about three weeks to a month now.

Personally, I am assuming a standard mystery person arc, as long as there isn't evidence for otherwise.

Featured the Mountain Villa Bandaged Man Murder Case article on the wiki. If you have anything to add or copyedit, that would be great!
-
You can see a short summary of major events in the wiki's timeline article. Plot characters also have detailed pages describing their actions in the plot. Beware that both contain numerous spoilers for the anime, so you make bet more information than you bargained for.

So this is the forums situation with roleplaying.
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to LucasIchiro's topic in Chatroom
I have been in the Detective Conan scene for like 7 years now? There has never been a dedicated faction in the Detective Conan fandom serious about roleplaying that hasn't died in a month or two. Also, LucasIchiro, there is even less interest in "elite" roleplay like you are describing vs causal pickmeups. Ain't nobody got time for that. I think there are several reasons why: 1) That's just the way the DC fandom is. Here we get maybe 15-30 unique people posting per day. At DCTP they get a few more, but not a whole lot. It is relaxed, without the hopping activity that roleplay-friendly fandoms have. I do not see those numbers going up in the next five years. Detective Conan passed its sort-of-spike in popularity now that the people who remember watching the show as kids have come and gone and the efforts to air the show in English have been exhausted. 2) Also, while I might be wrong, I am under the impression that roleplayers tend to be young rather than older. DC in my experience is older demographically than say the fans of Naruto or Ranma 1/2 back in its heydey. It also has a lot of English-speaking not-Anglospherians who aren't as interested in roleplay. 3) The characters are hard to roleplay. DC is long, and you have to know a lot to get the characters right. The backgrounds of many characters, protagonist and antagonist, are mysterious and not many people are willing to plunge off into the unknown. It's the same reason why it is incredibly rare for any fanfiction to show up about arc characters before their arcs are completely done. 4) Other types of forum games appeal more to the average DC reader. It don't think it was unexpected that Mafia, a puzzle-type community game, took off in the DC fandom at its peak of popularity. It is a better fit for the fandom who like the mysteries and plot more and the characters second for the most part. In conclusion, LucasIchiro, I think you are better off trying to start a DC roleplay at one of your "elite" roleplay sites than here. Crosspost here about it if you have something and maybe you'll pick up a few participants. Here, there are not enough people who care enough to meet your high standards. -
I forget if it is currently the main Conan anime website or if it is the television station which airs Conan, but one of the two posts the schedule for what airs a month in advance. Back when I used to watch the anime, I remember it being the television station itself. (but that was a long time ago) Either way, when it comes out, there are a few reliable people who take it upon themselves to get ahold of it and translate it. The usual path is Japanese --> Chinese --> English at DCTP in the general forum --> DCWiki

Everyone who thinks Kuroda is Rum needs to remember Gosho's classic pattern Suspicious: Jodie Starling, Akai, James Black, Kir, Eisuke, Camel, Okiya --> Not the bad guy Nice Person: Araide, Amuro Tohru --> The bad guy I'm not saying Kuroda can't be Rum, but Gosho does do some of the same things over and over again which should be kept in mind.

The piano music used in OVA 9 and Movie 12
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to scheduleX's topic in Movies and OAVs
Does this help? http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Detective_Conan_%22Full_Score_of_Fear%22_Original_Soundtrack -
I'm not eager to point to any candidate with the scant evidence we have so far. For all we know, Rum is the owner of the Poirot or Shuukichi's shogi rival, but we don't have any evidence to firmly implicate anyone. I'm going to wait it out until more info comes up or more characters reoccur. Don't forget, the liquor codename Rum fits a man. Gosho doesn't break his internal rules just to be tricky. Unless you believe Rum is a disguise artist, I don't think that implicating women makes much sense.

Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
Greyed out ones already on our list in some form, blued the ones we do not, and added commentary for the remainder BO’s goal. BO’s official name. Anokata’s identity. The secret project the BO has been doing for the past half century. The identity of the boss’s close aide, Rum. Scotch’s identity. The mysterious sister outside the domain’s identity. The domineering woman who speaks like a queen (probably Vermouth) and the cat. (Volumes 37 and 39.) (Confirmed Vermouth from the Bell Tree express chapters, but not where she was that a cat would be around. ) Itakura’s software. (Volume 37.) The contents of the software Vermouth requested from Itakura. (Volume 78.) Why Sharon and Itakura had a bad relationship. (Volume 78.) The drug Haibara’s parents were developing: “Silver Bullet”. (Volume 78.) Why Haibara’s parents had to part from her to complete the drug. (Volume 78.) Why did Haibara’s parents visit the Dejima Design office 20 years ago. Whether Haibara’s parents are alive or not. The reason why Vermouth doesn’t age. The Silver Bullet Vermouth has been waiting eagerly for, for a long time. Why Vermouth couldn’t find Haibara at Teitan elementary school. (Volume 45.) (The timeline for the office scenes with Vermouth was not concurrent with the chapters they were shown in. Also, she knew the FBI had her office bugged. She might have been trying to mislead them.) Haibara’s reaction regarding “Kurayoshi”. (Volume 45.) (Since Gosho has denied the Bo having anything to do with Tottori, maybe Haibara realized that Conan was trying to figure out the boss's number by the similar sound it makes to the Tottori dial.) Why does Anokata fear Akai to the point of making Gin wonder about it. The P.S. continuation of Miyano Akemi’s mail to Akai. (Volume 58.) ・ベルモットによる組織をつぶすメド I don’t know what this means. Something about according to Vermouth and defeating the BO. The continuation of Conan’s uttering: “Hey… Could it be that when you were in the BO…”. (Volume 24.) (Chekhov suspects this was Conan about to ask Haibara about her connection to Gin, but cutting off because he realized it was a bad time) Why the BO was able to read Haibara’s actions so well after she had escaped. (Volume 24.) (Chekhov thinks that Gin knows Shiho well from being in a relationship. Also Shiho was raised as a child in the Org, so they would know her well anyway.) TN: The three names in that mermaid book thingy. 宮野志保, 魚塚三郎, 黒澤陣. (Volume 28.) (We do have discussion about the Mermaid guestbook in the boss thread) Why Vermouth hides the shrinking. Why Vermouth resents the Miyano couple. (We have a listing for Sherry vs Vermouth, but not the Miyano's generally) The long hair that Sera Masumi found in the Kudō residence. (Probably Yukiko's from when she was helping Akai disguise. Either she visited home in disguise or the hair is from Okiya's wig.) Jodie Starling’s real name. (She entered the witness protection program so the current one is fake.) (Is it fake?) Is the Nanatsu no Ko melody just a joke, or is there some deep meaning behind it? The Sera family tree. Sera’s continuous utterances such as “As I thought I am a bad kid”. The true meaning of Bourbon’s utterance to Conan: “It seems like you’re making a big misunderstanding”. (Volume 84.) (Conan misunderstood what Zero was referring to. It really was a childhood nickname, not a reference to the secret police like Conan thought - Rei realized the mistake Conan made) The fact that Ran expressed doubts about Shin’ichi’s fingerprints being on Hattori’s charm. (Volume 67.) TN: actually going by the wiki it’s volume 66, because it’s chapter 693. The scorched MO that was at Hakase’s residence. (Volume 25.) Why Haibara told Conan that the MO that’s thought to contain the drug’s data had “no data on the drug”. (We cover it as What (besides drug data) is on the bloody disk that Haibara lied about losing at the Haido City Hotel?) The people on the phone in the last scene of “Detectives’ Nocturne” of volume 76. (Amuro with Vermouth, Sera with the middle bro, Okiya with ??? Yukiko? Conan? Listening in to something?) Who the 2 mothers that Aoyama has said are sisters are. The contents of Vermouth’s and Bourbon’s “promise” (volume 76). The meaning behind Aoyama’s words when he said that “something big is happening within the BO”. How will Haneda be involved with the BO? The meaning behind Ran’s and Conan’s “I feel like I’ve met Sera before”. Vermouth’s secret that would surprise the other BO members. (Bourbon: “If the BO knew they’d be surprised wouldn’t they… that you are the boss’s…”) The person who alerted Jodie of the danger with the message on the coaster, and its purpose. (Volume 67.) (Either Okiya or Scar Akai, probs Okiya) (After Bourbon’s flashback scene) where did Elena go? (Volume 84.) The true meaning behind Haibara’s “Conan is already deeply involved with the BO”. (Volume 19.) (Via successful shrinking with APTX. It was an early hint about the true purpose of the drug.) The true meaning behind Amuro’s abrupt utterance to Camel: “You German”. (Wut?) -
I wanted to put it out there that if the mystery child, Xrii, is Mrs. Akai and the sister of Elena Miyano it is possible that Elena did complete the drug before disappearing, but left the working sample with her sister instead of allow the BO to know about it or have it. Mrs Akai then took the drug to escape someone later. I have no proof for this, but I figured it was an interesting idea to explain why anyone else would be shrinking.

Dear wiki IP who makes minor edits on pages to point out we don't yet have certain character pictures: make an account and please upload them yourself! We are volunteers with lives, not picture uploading robots.

Clubs - maybe Kuroba stole it I think the Eri assertion stems from a question from one of the January Q&As at the college where Eri was kind of denied as having anything to do with the Black Organization rather than Gosho saying she is not the boss. We have it in our records in this thread. She's not listed in the wiki because it wasn't a direct boss denial like the others, also it was a bit vaguer. Also, tell me about the mistakes with the postcards, please!

The general rules of the forum are don't double post unless you have something important to add because a situation has changed. This is to prevent people from bumping pet topics infinitely. Begging people for replies is not appropriate. If you keep spamming your own topic, I'm going to lock it.

Nobody forget Alaktorn's question about the interview, but I want to jump in say the Germans and the Chinese are saying Elena Miyano has been disconfirmed to be the boss by Gosho. I'm trying to dig for sources and have asked someone else for help. Meanwhile some more postcards have come up kicking Gin and Samizu Kichiemon from the boss list. Also a postcard confirms that mentions of "boss" and "ano kata" are refering to the same individual, they are not to separate characters. For a list of postcards and animal crossing with images see: http://imgur.com/a/EC1HM This website is reporting Elena is off the boss list: http://ameblo.jp/fuuyuu-xxx-sakurachan/entry-11996914044.html I did notice the comments for that page have people asking for proofs or posts showing the card about Elena, so I am remaining slightly skeptical for now until something concrete turns up.

PM me if you do get ahold of pictures of more postcards. I'm making a collection that I will try to get on imgur for easy access. Edit: Here is the album: http://imgur.com/a/EC1HM

FYI the horse's exact name is in katakana and it is (ゴーカイテイオー). I want to say that animal names in Japanese are often foreign or in katakana, but I can't recall for sure. I threw "gou" into my Japanese dictionary of choice and got back eight matches, one (壕(P); 濠 【ごう】) of which was more like "trench, ditch, or dugout", and another (剛; 豪 【ごう】) is "strong; hard; manly". I'm not sure which English word corresponds to which Japanese piece, except for ou which jonconan mentioned explicitly. This vagueness is a big red flag to me. You can't be vague with theories that rely on piecewise definition. Too many of these theories --where favorable definitions are cherrypicked from a list of many matches-- are equivalent to finding the date of the end of the world by adding up numbers in the bible. Many kanji share sounds with other kanji, so with enough effort you can find whatever definition pleases you. For that reason, I only take one of these types of theories seriously if the original name itself was suspicious for some reason. For instance, the Daikoku Rentarou (大黒 連太郎) name was found on the guestbook signup sheet for immortality arrows and the Daiko building (大黒ビル (バー「カクテル」) was the name of a meeting ground for the Black Organization. The favorite horse of some guy only tangentially related to the Black Organization (or maybe even not at all connected) doesn't seem like it meets the criteria for suspicious name.

I got that much, but I am objecting to the focus on only the cute women (and not specific ones) rather than all the culprits who cried tears of remorse generally. Specific cute women might be genuinely remorseful and unlikely to commit crimes again, but there are a few like the one who framed Shiratori who were completely unrepentant despite the tears.

The Yakuza have gone downhill in Japan the last decade+. They are much less accepted now than they were. ... Your thinking seems out of whack. Your sureness they will repent just because they are beautiful makes no sense because beauty has nothing to do with goodness. The world isn't a Disney movie where ugly people are bad and pretty ones are good. I think you are thinking too much with the "lower brain" instead of the one in your head.

Reading this topic reminds me of the moronic facebook posts made by some girls who thought the Boston Bomber brothers were innocent because one of them was cute. Yes, that was a thing. Justice is blind for a good reason. I find Shinichi and Ran idealistic when it comes to their principles about murder. One way to look at ethics is to measure how much someone values sticking to good principles versus good outcomes. A principle-driven person would not support bad means even if it led to a very good end, while an outcome-driven person would be upset when good principles prevented good ends. Shinichi and Ran are both very principled, and that works well in places like Japan which is attentive to crime. It is hard to be principled in places that are unfair. For instance, there have been lots of cases in India where repeat rapists and killers who kept getting away because of connections or threats were then killed by mobs. (Akku Yadav was a famous one.) Is it worth standing by your principle not to murder when a rapist will keep attacking the women and children in your community with no hope of justice? That's the sort of decisions some people have to face. Even though I live in a nice country, I can recognize adherence to principles is a luxury rather than universal law that will work well for everyone. That's why I think that Shinichi and Ran are idealistic - they are inexperienced when it comes to struggles others have to face in unfair places. Mostly I hate it when Gosho tries to say one side of the ethics measure I mentioned above is the right one. There was a moment of really strong values dissonance in the fandom when Sera tried to get that hostage taker shot in Mouri agency hostage case but Ran stopped her because she didn't want him to be killed. Gosho made it seem like Sera was worse than Ran for trying to put a good outcome ahead of good principles. I don't like that sort of simplistic thinking about ethics. Both sides have their merits.

ABCDEFG notation is standard pretty much everywhere English speaking, which is what our wiki is aimed at. Only the Germans use H as far as I know, and they have their own wiki and aren't our problem. ABCDEFG is a far, far more common notation than the solfège (DoReMi).
