I think you are taking the angel thing a bit too far. It's risky to assume it means that one thing. It could mean heaven has never cut her a break, her life has been misfortunate. I don't think the daughter even exists. Chris was a fabrication from the start according to fingerprint data and Akai's, Jodie's, and Conan's deductions. Vermouth told that falling-out story to Yukiko to explain why Chris doesn't appear with Sharon - they can't. The last point you bring up is one of the reasons why I think your hostage explanation doesn't make sense. If Vermouth was held hostage, she would be angry at the boss and everyone in the Org, and could use her talent to give hints to the FBI and police and severely damage the Organization. It's not like the boss is omniscient; with the right kind of plan, Vermouth could keep these plots from being traced back to her. I don't think the boss would ever trust someone held hostage with as much trust and leeway to do things on her own as he gives Vermouth. That would not be prudent. The fact Vermouth wants the Organization to end, but doesn't seem to support the FBI or CIA doing the job, and isn't using her full strength to undermine it herself suggests she is held hostage by her own conscience. There is someone (like the boss or her close Org friends) she feels she can't betray even though she feels the right choice is to end the Organization. She heaps her plans and hopes on Conan because he has some virtue she thinks will guide him to end the Organization the way she wants it done.

I can't find it either. If it isn't from one of the DC movies, it might not be released yet onto soundtrack.

You definitely bring up an interesting point when you state their relationship like this. Most focus on how Vermouth feels about the Organization in general instead of how Vermouth feels about the boss and the consequences of that. I feel like it is the opposite conclusion, the boss values Vermouth, but does not care about her with the depth or strength she does for him. The boss seems to have some concrete reason for caring about Vermouth (like she doesn't age), but Vermouth seems to care about the boss deeply as a person rather than for a certain reason. There must be something keeping Vermouth loyal to the boss. She still does follow his orders -- she genuinely seemed to care (and not be angry) when the boss pulled her leash short after the haunted ship disaster. Vermouth doesn't sabotage the Organization in all the ways she is capable of without being caught for some reason. However, whatever that loyalty tie is, it doesn't keep her from allowing people to undermine the boss's will - the his plans and Organization's operation. Vermouth appears to dislike whatever the goal of the Organization is as far as the Miyanos go and seems to care little for the success or failure of its other plans, like Kir's assassination plot (She almost saw it as a game - could Conan stop them in time?). The only way I can get these two conflicted impressions to tie is if Vermouth values the boss as a person, but resents his aspirations and even the Organization itself. To put the point in the form of a story, maybe Vermouth was close to the boss before the Organization, but she did not support whatever his desire was that prompted the boss to form it. There was some reason (maybe Vermouth had a one-sided attraction towards the boss, both of them no longer aging, etc.) Vermouth felt she couldn't deny him when he wanted her to join him with his plans, but she never liked his plans to begin with and liked them less over time. The boss meanwhile, never saw how his dream was straining Vermouth internally; the boss is happy to keep using her even though he says she is close no matter how she feels. I feel like this explains why she wants the Organization brought down, yet did not take the opportunity to sabotage it herself, or allow the FBI or the police or whoever else to do it for her. Instead Vermouth supports Conan, for whatever virtues she sees in him to do the job. "If he could reach my heart, maybe he could be our long awaited silver bullet..." I get the feeling like she wants the Organization brought down in a way that gives the boss some closure in the defeat to give up whatever dream/desire he had that prompted the whole thing in the first place. Shinichi would probably try to do it this "right way" (compared to the FBI) which is why Vermouth wants him to be the silver bullet. All of this brings up another point. Why did Vermouth get irate with Itakura? If Itakura is part of the project she hates, then it seems she would oppose his program, or sabotage him. Maybe she was trying to do that by getting angry at him on the movie sets. Still though, why was Vermouth the one who contacted him later? Boss's orders (Tequila did get involved afterwards which supports this), or was there something personal for her there?

Here are all the sources I have so far. Translation credit goes to Alaktorn, The Black Demon, and the other translators at DCTP. For exact translations see the other posts in this thread. Plot and Black Organization When/how/did the boss of the Black Organization appear? Sources 1,6,7, report Gosho said the boss has appeared in some form a "long time ago", but Gosho may have implied the boss could have appeared "recently". Contrast with Source 5 who does not report the part of the answer that the boss has appeared recently. Q: Has the boss appeared? A: He has. Long ago, recently, I wonder when?/I wonder if he appeared long ago or recently (laughs)) The different sources extracted different meanings from this statement. One of the sources (which one?) thought Gosho was taunting, so the phrase may be misunderstood. Source 5 notes Gosho was being vague about what form the boss appeared in. (Current manga chapter is 883) It is mentioned again the boss is not Agasa. (Source 1,5,6,7) Gosho declined to answer a question if the boss's face has appeared (Source 1,7) Akemi has nothing to do with the rivalry between Akai Shuuichi and Amuro Tohru. (Source 1,2,5,6,7) The two people who followed Yukiko and the Detective Boys and took pictures of Haibara in the prescreening case in the Vermouth arc (episode 335-336) were subordinates of Akai's. Gosho said you can ignore them. (Source 1,2,6,7) Gosho declined to answer if Amuro's name is an alias. Amuro does have a childhood nickname that will appear. (Source 1,2,5,6,7) Amuro's dark skin color has a meaning (Source 2,5,6,7) Gosho declined to say whether Amuro's hair and skin color is natural,(Source 1,5,6) but mentioned his current hair color is supposed to be brown, not white. (Source 6) Amuro’s "profile" is a secret. (Source 6,7) Gosho gave a non-answer about Amuro's weaknesses: "I also haven’t decided on any weaknesses or dislikes. I mean, you wouldn’t like it if I said that he dislikes nattō, right? (laughs)” (Source 2,5,6,7) Gin's weakness is Akai (Source 1,2,4,6) Gin is the type who doesn't have favorite or disliked foods. (Sources 5,6,7) (Q: What are Gin’s weaknesses/dislikes? A: I think he doesn’t have any likes/dislikes. I think he can relatively eat whatever.) (Source 6) Gosho declined to answer about the completeness of APTX antidote (Source 1,2,6,7). Gosho declined to answer about the bloody disk of APTX data Haibara had from the Haido City Hotel seen later in Desperate Revival. (Source 1,2,6) Movie 18 will have some sort of appearance by Akai. (Source 1,2,6,7 More info given in sources 6 and 7) Gōshō: This year’s movie is Akai. Q: Does he have a central part? A: I don’t know how much of a part “central” is, but I think it will make you go “Oh!” “It’s happening before the manga”-kind of like. I also drew Akai’s key frames. Akai Shuuichi's story in the manga will be dealt with AFTER the movie, not before. (Source 2) “It’s gonna happen in the movie before the manga…” (Source 7) [The subject of "it" is unclear. It might refer to Akai's appearance.] Gosho cannot say more about the topic because it would make the director mad. (Source 1,6,7+others) Gosho declined to answer about future overseas cases. (Source 1,6) When the possibility of having a case in America related to Sera was asked about in the same question, Gosho regarded the question as a dangerous and declined to go there. (Source 1,2,6,7) Q: There have been cases abroad so far, but will the story of when Sera lived in America appear? A: Oh! You just asked something dangerous. Was that on purpose? (laughs) Sera was the hardest character story to design (Source 1,5,6,7) of the recent new characters (Sera, Amuro, Naeko, Haneda mentioned by question). The Akai siblings have three different last names (Source 1,2,7) which makes it complex (Source 6). Sera's appearance was also difficult to design. (Source 6) Gosho designed her as a tomboy (Source 1,6) because he likes her that way (Source 1), and she has to standout/be different from Ran and Haibara. Why does the Black Organization wear black? (Source 1) Question not answered by source. The police Yumi and Sato have been good friends since high school. (Source 1,2,6,7) But Gosho has no plans of making them classmates. (Source 6,7) There will be a major case/incident involving Naeko Miike. (Source 1,2,6,7) Q: What about Naeko’s and Chiba’s love comedy? A: These two will appear in a BIG case. Q: Will Chiba notice Naeko soon enough? A: He really doesn’t notice huh? I also think “Is this guy stupid?!” (laughs) What is Chiba’s first name? (Source 1) Question not answered by source "It seems like Isshin Chiba (Chiba’s voice actor) really likes Naeko. I was told at the year-end party." (Source 6,7) A spinoff for Matsuda and Hagiwara not planned (Source 1,2,6) The editors like them though (Source 1,6). "(Since Matsuda was enrolled in the Division 1 for only 7 days) the editing department told me “Please write a story called ‘The seven days of Matsuda’ or something like that”, but I have no plans of doing so. Matsuda and Hagiwara are just that story. (tn: as in, “the story so far” I guess)" Why did Takagi become a policeman? (Source 1) - Question not answered by source Haneda Shuukichi will make another appearance (Source 2,6,7) and it will be at a murder during a Shogi tournament (Source 6,7) Teenage Protagonists Someone asked about relative bust sizes. Gosho said Kazuha's breasts are smaller than Ran's. (Source 1,2,4,6,7) Sato's are bigger than Yumi's (Source 1,6), but Sato's don't look so big because she is quite muscular (Source 6), but Shiho is flat right now [because she is a child]. (Source 6). Gosho considers Ran as one of the biggest in terms of bust size. (Source 7) Gosho wanted to have a karate case where Ran's opponent died but then decided not to. "I’ve thought of writing a story about one of Ran’s karate opponents dying in the middle of a match, but afterall that would be pretty bad so I stopped." (Source 1,6,7) The correct color for Ai Haibara's hair is reddish brown, not the golden color it is in the movies. (Sources 1,6,7) Heiji''s line "my Kazuha" was pretty much a confession. (Source 6,7) Hattori's birthday is not decided (Source 1,2,6,7) Kazuha birthday is not decided (Source 6,7) Other The Ai and Fujiko bath scene in the Lupin vs Conan crossover movie left an impression on Gosho (Source 1,6, not answered in source 1) Gosho's sleep schedule: "When I was young I used to sleep for about 3 hours, but now I sleep 3 hours at night and then take an afternoon nap of about 30–60 minutes." (Source 6,7) Gosho draws the culprit first (Source 1,6,7) "When drawing a story, I start from the criminal. Then, if for example the criminal is (tn: a particular way I don’t understand), I draw the other characters not that way." Gosho goes back and forth with editors when trying to decide criminal motive. (Source 2,6,7) There was something about making Tottori airport into a Conan themed airport and Conan on the side of a plane. (Source 6,7) (Within Conan?) What kind of sports do you want to write? (Source 1) Question not answered by source Gosho's favorite outfit for Conan is the Jacket with the K. (Source 1)

Six is my least favorite movie. Back in the beginning when I first was getting into Detective Conan, I watched 6 because everyone said it was great. I thought it was awful; if Detective Conan was going to have mysteries like those shown in the movie, then forget the series, it was a waste of time. I dropped DC for a few months after than until the manga interested me again. Movie 6 almost stopped Chekhov from existing.

An interview with Gosho is scheduled for the 4th. The new year's interviews are usually the most intersting so keep an eye on the interviews thread. http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/1555-translating-interviews/

Congrats for making it this far!

Gosho not the chain yanker type, he plays by the mystery golden rulesbook. The clues that Ai was Conan in disguise were:Bold behavior compared to how Ai was before, e.g. suddenly trying to go with Araide to the hospital, and then trusting and going with Jodie instead once she suddenly appeared instead of Araide. There was also a difference between Haibara in the two scenes in chap 430 (and 431). The one in the basement had a headband, no face mask (we have seen the voicechanger face mask before), and indoor shoes. The one above had different clothes, no headband, a facemask, and *sneakers*. Yukiko is present, which means disguises are in play. Conan is nowhere to be seen. Where is he? The earbud in "Haibara's" ear seen best in 431 pg 9 means there is a plan afoot, and it can be deduced it is connected to "Shinichi" by the sound and other interactions. Conan would never agree to a plan where he splits up with Haibara and leaves her alone when Vermouth knows about them, especially since the invitation to the boat looks like a distraction to separate them. Once that scenario is ruled out, it is not too much of a stretch from here to guess Conan might be Ai, and someone else is Shinichi. Hattori already was Shinichi once and Conan would be willing to let him on a Black Org plan. There was only point where Okiya consistently "changed handedness" was when he was in front of Masumi in the Yuusaku's cold case. It might have been to mislead Masumi who might have found him unsettlingly familiar.

This list is now up to date with the latest threads. If you see anything I have missed let me know. I'm also bumping this topic to remind everyone this thread exists and is probably useful to anyone looking to make a new topic. The search bar and the site specific google will also be helpful to anyone looking for a particular topic. I'd also like to remind people of a few guidelines. If a topic already exists, please revive the old thread (necro) rather than create a new topic. Don't necro a topic to answer someone's old question unless you are positive it is of general and current interest. The mods will probably delete your answer. Chances are that original user isn't even looking at the thread anymore. Don't necro a topic if you are going to post something offtopic in it.

Akai didn't have a choice. Kid blabbed to Bourbon that the luggage of the train was bombed, so Bourbon was going to move "Shiho" elsewhere. If Akai didn't act when he did, the situation might have changed and forced Kaitou Kid to use something Shiho wouldn't ever use -- like smoke bombs. That would ruin any plan Conan had to turn the Black Organization's plan against them and fake Shiho's death. (Personally, I think the train case was poorly done from a writing perspective. Conan acted too perfectly and certainly with the little info they learned on the fly IMHO. Conan's plan probably wouldn't have gone so well if more Org members were on the train, like Gin, or if the members weren't Bourbon and Vermouth. Besides, what if the Org's plan was to douse the whole train in sleeping gas, search room to room, and blame it on Kaitou Kid who was staking out the train for his next heist? If Conan was really behaving realistically, he wouldn't have let anyone board the train or done something to sabotage the departure before anyone could board. Letting Ran and the DB get into an unknown situation with murderous Org agents is pretty arrogant of Conan as it stands.) It was much better for Akai to use his own face in that situation rather than Okiya's. If Okiya was seen then he might be traced to the Kudo household, putting Haibara and Conan in danger. If his face as Akai is seen, Kir might die, but Shiho and Conan would be okay because Akai could go back to disguising as Okiya. (I think Akai is prioritizing Shiho over Kir in part because of Akemi's promise.)

The way the evidence is right now it appears Masumi knew Conan was Shinichi from the time she met him on the bus and at the hotel.

Didn't care for this one at all. It's better than 6, but I honestly enjoyed it less than 11. The pacing was just awkward and the mystery non-existant. None of the characters had any real impact. I felt like no one's reactions made sense; they let the spy run around freely with civilians. By the end. I started skipping through the 20 minutes of Ran drowning because I was sick of bubble and wave clip shows. Best part was Ran's fight with the spy from "that country". Probably never going to watch this one again, unless there is a reference in canon I have to check.

Detective Conan world isn't exactly the best place to vent about fansubs since no one does them here. Locking topic because the original question was answered.
-
There is a pretty well established theory about that.

Not too many in the first twelve chapters. There is already a list of all the major names at the German forums for the first 53 volumes. http://conanforum.org/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=4396

He doesn't have the means to intecept calls right now. He would need to carry around a shortwave radio.
-
Gin is a rational type thinker. He would never suspect a child detective; it is too strange a conclusion for him without a lot of supporting evidence first.
-
I agree with this. Conan would also be watched too I think if he was seen with the FBI by someone who wasn't a type like Vermouth or Bourbon. Gosho was trying to fool everyone into thinking Camel was a spy, which is why there were some weird lines. (We never did get to see the man Vodka sent into the hospital to confirm all the FBI foreigners were hanging out, but that couldn’t be Camel since he arrived from wherever by plane by Shuuichi’s request. The last informant that Gin was waiting on was Vermouth who was sent to look for Akai's truck on the boss's orders.) I think if you take Akai's line at face value it simply means he would recognize anyone he saw working for the Organization while he infiltrated.

Greetings from Holmesian Russian Mad Scientist
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Livanov-Holmes's topic in Introduce yourself
Welcome to DetectiveConanWorld. For some reason your EE description made me think of the English dub voice professor Agasa. -
I personally don't think he'll send anything to the number until the final clash when it becomes a necessary part of a trick. Gosho has implied messing with that number is like kicking a hornet's nest; I think Conan took Haibara's words to heart for now.
-
Yes. It makes more sense to look at it from an author's perspective rather than an in-universe perspective. Gosho is not interested in handing Conan any more insights into the boss derived from this phone number clue because he has other plans for the plot and how clues about the boss will be uncovered. To achieve that railroaded result in-universe, Gosho used Haibara to provide an excuse ("too dangerous") as to why Conan can't do anything useful. I think the more interesting question is why the FBI and the CIA, despite all of their resources, have not been able to identify the boss. Kir texted the boss already; she knows the number. I think this says more about the type of person the boss probably is rather than the technical defenses against identification he uses. The boss is likely someone the CIA and the FBI would never have considered as a suspect.
-
If Akai is going to appear, he won't do it in front of anyone who doesn't already know he is alive. He will probably just pop up by himself to snipe the badguy at a critical point (think ep 425 FBI vs Org), and then disappear before anyone who doesn't know he is alive gets a good look at him. Most of the protagonists will just be confused, except for Conan. Akai will be strongly hinted at being Okiya (think Okiya is shown leaving the building just after Akai vacates his perch), just like he was on the train, and the manga plot is left unaffected.
-
Maybe it would shame the United States intelligence/law enforcement communities if certain knowledge about the Black Organization came to light? If so, the US orgs might prefer to defeat the Black Organization without Japan or anyone else knowing. Or maybe more nefariously whoever is the head of personnel directing the efforts against the BO in the US is interested in obtaining research secrets from them without any other countries getting them first?
-
Conan might lose an advantage though. The Black Organization (minus Vermouth and Bourbon) doesn't know that Conan exists and is investigating them. If Conan contacts the boss, there is a chance the boss could come to the conclusion that someone is trying to pry into their affairs. The hardest enemy to defeat is one that you didn't know existed.
