That does seem right, even though the effect is jarring. The same thing happens to Masumi in the DB stuck in the burning shack case.

The facts (Tenmatsu) which is the 15th track on the Captured in Your Eyes soundtrack.

That's probably the main trick in the movie based on the name. It's a shot from impossibly far according to Conan, so how did the guy do it? Was the man really shot from the inside of the tower and it was made to look like it came from outside? Was it a random shooting, and so as long as one person is hit in the crowded observation deck it works for the sniper? Or maybe it's a two sniper tagteam, one far away to draw attention, and the other is shooting from closer?

Does the anime have a habit of changing the eye color if the character is panicking? I thought it was interesting that Masumi's eyes are different colors in two different scenes. If the subbed trailer is not lying like a dog, and the shadowperson sniper really does know Shinichi's identity, that means he isn't going to survive the film. The knowledge of Conan's secret identity is a certain death penalty. *Puts down one nickel on Akai Shuuichi shooting the sniper at the end of the movie* (but not killing him, the sniper will have to do that to himself.)

Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
Maybe Haibara hasn't figured it out. We know the boss and the Organization's name are connected because Gosho told us. Shiho may not know that bit of info. -
Shuukichi Haneda Discussion Thread
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
Be careful with assuming the wig hair color was black. It's extremely hard to draw a hair as anything other than a black line in a black and white manga. Remember, shiho's auburn hair was also drawn as a black line as well when Gin held it up. The only thing Sera said about the hair was that it is long and fake, so I think those facts are the only one's it is safe to assume. -
Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
1. Unresolved plot. It is believed to be related to the boss's identity if interviews and online rumors are to be believed 2. Unresolved plot. Probably, since she is always referring to them as "the people you call the men in black", implying she has a different name for them than Conan does. 3. If he gets caught in his Okiya appearence by the Black Organization, he could be tracked down which would put Ai in danger since she lives next door (and Conan too). By appearing as Akai no one knows where he is, so he could go back to Okiya and be safe. He is risking Kir by going as Akai, but I have a feeling he is prioritizing Shiho above Hidemi here. 4. He's Yumi's love interest so he ought to appear again in a police romance file. 5. Unresolved plot. 6. If I recall, she seemed to notice Okiya was asking some probing questions so I have a feeling she is guessing Okiya was trying to uncover Conan's identity, or knew already. 7. No. 8. Ah, the dangers of watching the anime. In the manga only Vodka had any idea who Shinichi was. Gin kept silent on the issue altogether. 9. Ai's sense doesn't detect all Black Organization members. From what we have seen it seems attuned to when a Black Organization member is in an "aggressive mood" or is being dangerous and sneaky. For instance, Shiho didn't pick up vibes from her sister until right before the theft plot. Numabuchi had no bad intent, so she didn't sense him. 10. The pictures of the hotels. During the "delete" scene there is an establishing shot of Sera's hotel. It's short, certainly not like the one we just saw. -
Split into spoiler and non-spoiler deduction threads?
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
I think if looks like it is going to be a high traffic thread, it would be worth making spoiler and nonspoiler versions, but I agree the extra thread isn't really worth the effort in based on how they have been used so far -
The original word was gender ambiguous; it might have been "ano kata" but I don't remember any more. What Gin said was that the boss contacted Gin directly (Not necessarily in person mind you, it could be a text message to Gin's phone) and told him to kill Pisco because he made a mistake. That case where Pisco appears is the first time the boss is mentioned, so some translators hadn't come up with good conventions for dealing with the gender ambiguity accurately.

[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 876-878 (Sera's Hotel Murder Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
Yes that info is correct, assuming Masumi isn't lying. The light colored curly hair is rather different from Shuuichi and Masumi's. It depends on whether you think the eyes are the most important parts of the child's face or the rest of the features are. -
[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 876-878 (Sera's Hotel Murder Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
I'm confirming Balthazar's statement; it's a manga version of Movie 13 and has absolutely nothing to do with the official manga. You can tell from the slightly different character models that Gosho had no hand in drawing it. (I wonder if it was done by the assistants who do Conan Special?) It's pretty common for successful anime movies to be reproduced as a manga by a side-company. Sometimes people like to use these manga-movie spinoffs to create rumors because most fans forget these exist. -
detective conan movie #17 discussion!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to sherlock apperentice's topic in Anime series
There is a thread about Movie 17 in the Movies forum: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/4866-movie-17-discussion-thread/ -
Only one source has said anything about Jodie and Okiya appearing, and it hasn't been backed up beyond that as far as I know. Even if the source is right, that doesn't imply Okiya and Akai are separate characters. Like all the movies, this one will stick to the pattern of not significantly interfering with the manga plot. Also keep in mind that the movie timeline can't exceed the lagging the anime timeline. When the movie comes out in April, the anime is only going to be as far along as 851 (Pickpocket and Jodie at the shrine) to 861 (Bowling alley murder case) or so. Any developments published now that would be new in the manga, like Okiya is not Akai, wouldn't be animated in time for the movie which appears in April. That means the movie is going to be working off the information known from the train canon-wise and a little afterwards with Amuro returning to the Poirot. If Akai does appear in the movie, it's most likely either going to be Bourbon in disguise again and/or a sudden appearance like how Akai popped up as himself on the train. Both of those options don't joss any anime or manga plot. In addition, Akai can only appear in front of people who have seen him already like Conan (and Yukiko), with brief glimpses allowed for Jodie, Camel, and Masumi (who saw Scar Akai), and maybe Ran who doesn't know he is supposed to be dead. Having Haibara see Akai will be off limits for sure. It would affect the manga canon if it was revealed that Okiya definitely wasn't Akai, so that clearly is not going to happen. It is technically possible Okiya/Akai could do something onscreen to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt they are the same person, because there are ways to deal with a non-canon reveal in the manga. The train episodes already strongly imply Okiya is Akai with the clothes and eye and all, so it is not a complete shocker. In the manga, Gosho could have Okiya reveal himself to be Akai in front of Haibara or Masumi or Jodie, which would be dramatic by itself, even if people had already watched the movie. The non-movie watchers would then be caught up and the plot would work out. You can kind of compare the situation to how Ran's confession to Shinichi in movie 8 didn't interfere with later plot in London.

Removed the direct video link, but if anyone wants to follow up to confirm they can copy and paste it. It's a variation of "Surprising Truth" (Kyougaku no Shinjitsu) by Katsuo Ohno which is Track 20 of the Detective Conan Original Soundtrack Super Best 2.

Crosspost from movies thread If it's a movie about Shuuichi, my guess it's going to be a revenge plot related to Shuuichi's past in the FBI - like a case he solved and someone he arrested. I don't think there is going to be any major BO involvement (That would have been hyped for sure). Someone probably wanted to get revenge on Shuu for something he did for the FBI, but can't find him, so attacks Masumi to lure him out. Hearing the news about his sister ruins Okiya's stew-making plans. Jodie kidnaps Conan, rounds up the rest of the FBI, and they start trying to find the suspect and discover his motive. Meanwhile Conan and Okiya work together in the background and do all the real heavy lifting. The finale is Conan being chased by the sniper's bullets, which is stopped by Okiya/Akai sniping the guy from X00 yards away. Amuro was in Hawaii this entire time working on his tan and misses all the action. The end. Maybe it's the lighting, but it looks like Akai is crying in that poster.

[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 879-881 (Drug Dealing Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
I wonder if Heiji will miss the handoff because he is distracted... -
*Is suspicious of these movie 18 spoilers.* Not sure whether it would be better to be right or wrong about them.

This movie has both a classic writer: the one who did movie 2 and 5, and plot characters - Akai and Sera who are popular at the moment and getting more popular with time. There is no reason why Kaitou Kid would be better here.

I actually really like the fake trailer... Even though it was fake, it made me really excited about it.

Crossposting ideas from this thread for reference, but I'm not committing to any theory without more evidence as of 01/06/14. My vote is just a weak hunch at this point. This poll is amazing by the way. Original post, 27 October 2013 Update 22 November 2013 Minor Update, 6 January 2014 Theory is out of date, it was last updated 6 January 2014! Index Known facts about the child Speculation ....Conan suspected Masumi was warning someone to hide in the text to her brother ....Conan suspects there is something important about the child ....Conan's assumption that the child is a girl should be taken with a grain of salt ....Reason why Masumi would show Conan the child's picture Theories about the identity of the child ....Facts about Masumi's family ....Detailed Breakdown of various identity theories ........Masumi lied about the number of siblings she has or the relatives that she has ........Masumi doesn't know the child is a blood relative of hers ........The child is not considered part of Masumi's family by Masumi ........The child is an offspring of one of Masumi's older brothers ........The child is in fact one if her family members, implying they were shrunken somehow. ............The middle brother shrunk ............Masumi's mother shrunk ............Akai Shuuichi shrunk

[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 876-878 (Sera's Hotel Murder Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
Update on what I think is going on with the murder case. I've seen the spoiler stuff for the child, but not the case solution. The female staffperson who walks in with the bottle of wine is probably the victim Minazuki. She had blond hair pulled back and is not shown leaving. The author tells her to decant the wine and no more mention is made of her afterwards. She is "hidden" in a crowd of people bringing food items who have come before and after her. Her mole on her chin may be covered by makeup so that she isn't recognizable. I'm guessing that she was bringing by most of the manuscript that she wrote, but left off the last page since the author seems to be struggling on it. I have heard from Fujiwara that the "phone, sea, and I" thing is a wordplay of some type so I am not going to bother to guess at the meaning other than whatever Minazuki didn't give Hiura explained the answer. It probably had to do with the postcard in her suitcase. When Minazuki went by Hiura's room, I assume she started taking a shower in his shower which is why she is wet and naked and the bottle caps are missing. Hiura brought the used bottles, but not the tops back to her room (couldn't find them? Maybe she slipped them into his pocket or something while being strangled?), probably thinking she had an unopened set he could replace the tops from since she used his. I assume she didn't have another set. Hiura probably moved the body back to her room using the large suitcase. After killing her in his room, he put her in the large suitcase, and lowered the suitcase from the balcony with a rope where the editors eating could not see him (say the side portions of the balcony), or acted like he walked out on the balcony to think. After lowering the suitcase down to her balcony, Hiura dressed in a delivery person uniform, snuck out with a beer among the delivery people, went to her room and arranged the scene. The suitcase was wet from her body so Hiura was forced to upend the table into the case to make it look like a beer spilled inside. He replaced the bottles in her shower, and turned it on so it looked like she used it. Hiura then put Minazuki's body by the door. I assume Hiura disposed of the rope to lower the suitcase and uniforms somewhere when he went out on a walk. Room service for two – wine with two glasses - was ordered to her room by Hiura. The room service arriving to her room would be incredibly convenient because if Minazuki is found quickly it would solidify his alibi. The author probably sent the threatening letters in order to provide some sort of motive for an imaginary outside killer to attack the assistant. I'm still not sure if the missing button on the bald author’s shirt (disappeared between the meeting and him coming downstairs) is a clue or not. -
What episode did Ran fall in love with Shinichi?
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to ranandshinichi4eva's topic in General
I think we need some more details. In ep 1 or 2 or so, Ran confessed to Conan she liked Shinichi. Maybe you should check the list of Ran and Shinichi romance moments: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Shinichi_Kudo_and_Ran_Mouri -
[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 876-878 (Sera's Hotel Murder Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
You would get a 3:1 probability split if hair color was Mendelian: controlled by one gene with two alleles, one dominant, one recessive and both parents were heterozygous. Hair color isn't Mendelian though. It is a lot more complicated than that, much like eye color inheritance. Also remember we don't actually know the child's hair color. Fans have depicted it as blond, but Gosho draws brown hair white as well. See Sonoko and Eri as examples. -
[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 876-878 (Sera's Hotel Murder Case)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series
I replied to the boss related information on the main boss thread, in order to keep on topic in this thread. The problem is - Masumi never tried to pretend being a boy. Since very beginning she tried to say that she's a girl, while new character told Masumi to tell Conan that she's her little sister. Can't see any reasons for Aoyama-sensei to go that deep into such a things. Why is pretending to be a girl farfetched? Gosho is fine with gender confusion. He let it hang for almost three chapters that Masumi was a boy. (And used the men's restroom since it was convenient.) If the kid is a shrunken person, there is no guarantee that they know who attacked them. If they are desperate to hide, then pretending to be the opposite gender isn't unthinkable, especially if they already had problems with gender confusion to begin with, or were inspired by a certain androgynous sibling. I'm not saying the child is the brother because there isn't enough info at this point. There are problems with the theory since the middle brother by phone claimed Conan was trustworthy with regards to cases, but this child stated she/he doesn't trust Conan yet. Also there are timing quibbles about when the two learned of Conan and met him before, if ever. That said, I have to be fair the facts here. It's not impossible, or even improbable for the child to be hiding their gender. Zenthisoror pointed out the child speaks more boyishly than girlishly. Seiji Asou Narumi Asai would like to have a word with you. But he can't. He's dead. Children look androgynous until puberty. No matter the gender, this kid hasn't hit that point yet. While specific cases are never the same, Gosho recycles general strategies all the time. Kir and Eisuke, two siblings with similar appearances and eyes -- Masumi and Shuuichi, two siblings with similar appearences and eyes. Eisuke and Masumi are both American emigrants. Scar Akai and Araide, two faces we had met before as good guys then used as disguises by the bad guys. Araide and Amuro, two nice guys who weren't so nice after all. Camel and Shuuichi both faked their deaths in similar situations. The FBI and CIA both sent operatives to infiltrate the Black Organization, had problems infiltrating, and up until their allegiances were revealed, they appeared to be bad.
