Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
You'd need some really advanced knowledge to build and design a microchip or computer system with the programs necessary to do that. You'd also need a really good understanding of the brain, better than anything current. They might be trying to do that, but it certainly isn't something that they could figure out quickly and then walk into the neighborhood computer store to buy parts for. That might be how the boss feels about his goal: the end justifies the means. It's a pretty common trope for evil organizations not to think of themselves as evil. -
I don't know. It could be one of the ones on the list of known interviews we don't have text for or it could be one that was forgotten. It seems like it is one from a book or other written format.

She texted the boss info about what happened, then Gin called right after. Gin had been calling trying to reach Kir because he didn't know why she was out of contact (because Kogoro was over solving a case for her).

All we know there was some real person she disguised as because the serial killer "committed suicide" at the end (thus leaving a body). That man really could have been a serial killer before Vermouth got him, or it was someone whose identity and life she stole for the role. I was always of the opinion that Vermouth wanted a silver haired Japanese person because it sounds superficially similar to Gin which would capture Shuuichi's interest (which is important because killing Akai was the goal). Since silver haired Japanese serial killers are not common or easy to find, I assume she had to make someone into the role. I think she might have blackmailed somebody, similar to how she forced the wolfman to murder the director on the Halloween boat. She might also have simply hijacked the identity of a law abiding citizen, committed murders with their face, and then captured and killed them when it was time for the suicide to happen.

Please post any theories you have concerning Sera's second oldest brother here. Here is the known information about him and some of the most common theories so far: Akai family's middle brother. File 865 Shounen Sunday Special Booklet This info is on DCTP here and is split between the cbox and a special page. Since in its current form it is likely to be disarrayed, I have organized the text here. Credit goes to the translators which include Fujiwara, Zenthisoror, and Wakarimashita. pg1 Cover pg2 Index and announcements pg3 Conan pg4 Ran and Kogoro pg5 Haibara and the Detective Boys pg6 Kaitou Kid and Hattori Heiji pg7 Okiya and Sera pg8 Gin and Vodka pg9 Chianti and Korn pg10 Vermouth and Amuro pg11 Extra! Kurogane Yaiba pg12 Special Interview part 1 pg13 Special Interview part 2 pg14 Special Kaitou Kid Commentary part 1 pg15 Special Kaitou Kid Commentary part 2 pg16 Special Kaitou Kid Commentary part 3 pg17 A lesson in drawing Conan pg18 A lesson in drawing Conan pg19 A lesson in drawing Conan Character Sections Conan Hairstyle: Took 1 minute, got Yaiba's hair and made it smoother. Added Mahoutsukai Sally's little brother Kabu's apostrophe. The way he drew the back of the hair came from Adachi Maru's main character of Nijiiro Tougarashi (Rainbow Chilli Peppers) Shichimi... Fashion: Essentially, 753 wear, i.e. when you're little at ages 7. 5 and 3, when these formal photos get taken, Gosho's 753 photos have him in bow tie and shorts. He tries to keep gadgets to what Conan can wear...but he's run out of ideas of late... Glasses: Gosho likes Superman. And when Clark Kent was hiding his identity, he wore glasses. So when he wrote Ai and Conan's conversation in vol 24, it was like a long held in secret was getting out. Speaking Habits: Rough but kinda cool, inspired maybe by Joe from Tomorrow's Joe Barooo, and other habits might have aspects of Touch in them as well. Ran Ran's concept: "Saying Ran's perfect is probably saying too much, but she's someone you'd want to have on your side. She's can fight and is a diligent student and can cook really well. And she's always waiting for Shinichi. Her only weakness is her fear of ghosts. I wanted to draw a girl that is strong in many ways, as I had never done so before." Kogoro Gosho thought that a mystery type story would end pretty quickly so he originally dsigned Mouri like a thinner version of Nakamori. But then he was told that they were too similar, so he changed his hairstyle and his moustache... When both Nakamori and Mouri appeared in the same case there was a lot of thought over which one ought to be taller. On that front, Mouri is supposed to be taller. He made him a detective instead of a police officer because he thought that was easier to manage, He knows about policemen and he knows about cases. It makes things a lot easier... Oh sorry, I meant, the reason for the backstory about why he switched from an officer to a detective...it makes being a private detective easier for Mouri. Also, his face is familiar to a lot of the officers. Haibara Haibara's concept: Gosho had planned to introduce ex-BO member Haibara from the start, even though her introduction was later than planned. As for her character, he wanted a tsundere character who's the opposite of Ran. Even though Haibara doesn't have much deer. But that's how he likes her. (laughs) Detective Boys Zenthisoror: The original concept of the three Detective Boys was to enable Haibara to hide amongst them! Basically, they provided the hiding place for Haibara. Gosho wanted a fat one, a thin and snarky one, and a cute little girl. They're obviously inspired from Doraemon but the personalities of all three are very different from their Doraemon counterparts. Especially because Conan's very different from Nobita-kun (hahaha, you could say that again) You could say that the three DB kids together are all Nobita-kun, all shouting, "Help us, Conan!" Genta's family run a bar/pub. Mitsuhiko's parents are both teachers. Mitsuhiko's sister is also a teacher. Ayumi's family he's not so sure...they live in a flat modelled on the one Gosho used to live in...so probably not the average salaryman... Kaitou Kid Heiji Okiya Hairstyle is Char Aznable from Gundam crossed with Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile, which Gosho was really into at that time. It's the part of Chiaki's hairstyle where it's sticking up all over the place from how he sleeps that he added to Okiya. His identity: Is a SECRET. People might have already figured it out, but he'll leave it to our imaginations (some of the page has been cut off) Sera In the detective koushien case, the female detective despite being the culprit ended up being so popular that there was a demand for this character but it was impossible since she was the culprit so Aoyama created... Sera. Gin Gin's about the hat and the hair. There wasn't much deep thought behind his design. Just that he had some kind of high leadership position in the Organisation, but as Conan continued and looked as though it would get longer his character development got more complicated. 'The Aesthetics of a Killer' He drives a Porsche 356A and carries a Beretta M 1934, so he's very particular about his tastes. But being particular makes a character cooler? (ahaha) Vodka And Vodka is Gin's Watson...and what his eyes are like, Gosho will leave to the readers' imagination... Chianti Concept; A character who wouldn't go around sucking up to Gin. He [Gosho] thought the swallowtail butterfly tattoo was cool. He [Gosho] thought a lot about her development and some one liners, like 'When my butterfly flaps its wings, people die'. But snipers keep both eyes open to shoot, so that one liner went down the drain. Her speech habits are supposed to make her seem a bit sexual. Korn Concept: Silent, unsophisticated, and a bit of a wierdo...he's got skills though. Things are more fun with characters like these, aren't they? He's designed so that he looks like nobody else in the Organisation. He's got skills as a sniper though! The only person better than him at sniping, including Chianti, is Akai. If he's alive (hahaha) He hates Vermouth. For letting Calvados, a fellow sniper, die. It's not like there was anything particularly special about the relationship between Calvados and Korn. It's probably just that as one sniper looking out for another sniper, he can't forgive her... Fundamentally all members of the organisation with code names are supposed to be at the same level, so Korn's supposed to be at the same rank as Gin. It just happened this time that when they chanced to form a team Gin came out as the most leader-like of all them. Vermouth She's the bad side of Fujiko Mine, the good side being Yukiko. Yukiko has Fujiko's hair-style. Both Vermouth and Yukiko have this middle hair-line too. Both hard to draw. It was difficult during the Train Arc because they both had a lot of panels given to them. But it was fun and the result was a success. Leaving aside their standing inside the BO, Vermouth used to like Gin in the past, I'd say. She also had a profound relationship with Gin... However, since Gin isn't the type to fall in love with another person, all this came from Vermouth's side. Amuro A character who's neither Akai, neither Okiya. First character with dark skin and blond hair. A long time ago there was the character Jewell (?) in Yaiba though. The cutting and adjusting of the frames was difficult because of the white hair but digital drawing makes it easier. Q&A Question 1: Did Heiji make Conan drink Paikaru knowing what it would do to him!? A: It was all a happy coincidence and the rest is internet conspiracy theory... 2. A message came to Sera from her brother about whether she had met the wizard yet...was that from 'Shuu-nii'? A: But Sera-chan said that 'Shuu-nii was dead' didn't she? In which case (smile)... 3. Sera seems to have met Conan before, but was that when Conan was Conan or Conan was Shinichi? A: I can't give too many details, but Ran has met her too... 4. (Translated by Conan#1) Why did Conan tell Miyano Akemi his true identity? Any reason? A: Because Conan thinks that person is going to die anyway. What if Akemi is taken to the hospital and brought back to life in a miracle!!! (smile) 5. The APTX4869 - it can shrink people as a side effect, so what's it actually supposed to do? Tell us! A: Er...sorry, I can't say... 6. Apart from Conan and Haibara, are there any others who took the poison and ended up shrinking? A: Who knows...maybe another one will turn up some time... (laughter) 7. In order to complete the silver bullet, why did Haibara have to separate from her parents? A: I'm afraid I can't answer that either...But that will be answered eventually! So bear that in mind... 8. Will Itakura's software become important at some point in the future? A: Well, I took the trouble of introducing it to the plot, so it must become important at some point... 9. Also, any hint as to what sort of thing it was... A: Ahahahaha! Just remember it! Please keep it in mind!! 10. Gin and Vodka wear suits even in the summer...is there some secret as to how they manage to get by!? Normal people would find it too hot to cope... A: Because wouldn't Gin in just his shirt be a bit funny? Yeah...these characters are among the ones that are a bit difficult to write in the summer...Gin, Vodka, Chianti and Korn all wear a lot of layers... Drawing them becomes a bit of a drag... Fundamentally, all men in black are a bit of a drag to draw! Vermouth, I just want to say, "Please no more!" (laughs) 11. In Akemi's mail to Akai Shuuichi that went 'If we could both get out of the Organisation...' what was in the PS? A: That's an important point! I'll be bringing that up in the story later! 12. One last thing...could you tell us the identity of the Boss of the BO? A: Wahahahaha! Alright, I'll let you in on the secret...It's actually... Interviewer: Whaaaaat!!! Answering these rather harsh questions in such a playful manner within his busy schedule, that was Aoyama Gosho! (Note: Gosho did not actually say the name to the interviewer. This is a joke) Thank you very much!! Art section

[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 865-866 (Taii's owner)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in Manga series

Since it would be awkward to pair a teen with a child (even if they are both mentally teenagers), most people use either Shinichi x Shiho (teen form) or Conan x Ai (child form).
-
The reason I don't think Haibara will die is because it would be backwards for her character. Haibara's character is development centered. A lot of her plot is about her "second life": growing up again with the normal childhood she never had. (Well normal for DC) Having her killed, presumably by the Black Organization, would make that development pointless and, in a roundabout way, justify her original paranoia.
-
Different characters have certain themes associated with them. Here are some examples.
-
I agree that Shiho and Gin have some past together, but I'm in the mutual-romantic-relationship-that-went-bad-and-then-Shiho-dumped-Gin-because-he-is-creepy-cruel camp. I think if he just plain raped her, she wouldn't be able to face him down as smoothly and fearlessly as she did on top of the Haido City Hotel. I also think Gin is more likely to kill himself or be killed trying to do harm to others. I don't think he would ever submit to arrest if he couldn't get out of it somehow.

Volume 19 File 4 (184) pg 4 Mystery Writer Case
-
Going with the theories about the goal of the Black Organization, it's possible Shiho + Gin and Vodka were investigating the rumors of an immortal person. Your idea that the Syndicate told them to be there because important people were there is also good and there is no reason there couldn't be two goals in one mission. Assuming Gin was there as well as Vodka, that means Shiho wrote her real name while they used aliases. That suggests some measure of defiance; they could be there to protect her but also to mind her as well if she was acting slightly rebellious.

I think the only one with permission to do that is the mods. You can ask them to delete it with a comment or PM.

Funny you should say that. I went and dragged it over to one of the translators at DCTP and she said the name might be Kurosawa, and the name we can see entirely was probably Vodka's pun. I think I was in the wrong and the interview might be correct. http://forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2169&start=15#p777781 ranscript from the cbox, cut to the most relevant points with minor fixes. Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:51) The mermaid guestbook came up again. What did I screw up, Fuji? http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/foru ... /?p=295425 Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:53) It came up in regards to Q3 from this site: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:55) If I didn't mess anything up, I'm going to have to go back on my previous words that Vodka wasn't in the guestbook. Of course, a pun like that is probably not his real name, even though Sherry used her real name. Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:10) Awesome find that. My remarks: 魚塚 is definitely a play on Vodka just as you described. That's because it's not, in fact, a Japanese surname. I.e. no one uses it. Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:12) It could be read differently from Uotsuka, of course, but given how it's not an actual name and it's position in the guest book, either Vodka wrote it or it was a joke by Gosho, it was definitely intentional. Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:12 - 27 Jun 13, 14:14) I noticed Wikipedia turned up zero people with the name. I'm guessing it was probably Vodka judging by the context. Shiho probably would get an escort. The elephant in the room is if the Gin part is true though. As in the name on the far right. Per the interview given in Q3 here: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html I doubt Vodka would use his real name, even if Shiho did. Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:15) No, since Vodka is a codename it would make no sense for it to be his real name. Esp. given how it's not, actually, a name that people use. Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:16) By the way this might be useful: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki ... _manga.PNG Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:18) Yes, well, all I can say is that the part of the next name that you see matches the Kanji for Kurosawa Jin (黒澤陣). Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:30) But, yeah, the Gin thing woud really depend on the veracity of that interview, since you can only see the tiny part of the name and the original rumor might have been based on that bit ... Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:35) If you have any more remarks, now would be a good time Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:38) Well, there's alternate readings for the given name, I suppose, but Saburou seems the most prevalent and none of them give off any BO vibe. Here they are though: Mitsuo, Sanrou, Kazuo

A few years ago at DCTP forums and then later at the DCTP cbox (no records) and then the german http://detektivconan-forum.com/. The most recent English thread is here, and unfortunately has been messed up by the forum move. If you had an account at DCTP before the move, you can log in here and see the thread without errors. Throwing the name 三郎 into Wikipedia yields straight "Saburo"s 魚塚 is the radical for fish (sakana) and mound/heap/hillock (Tsuka, but appears to be -zuka when another sound is before it). Alternate readings for fish can give you "Uo". Uozuka (Uotsuka) works as the family name. Vodka rendered into Japanese is ウォッカ ウ = U kana ォ = Scaled-down o kana used to express morae foreign to the Japanese language ッ = "little tsu", in this case used to double a k sound. カ = ka So if you just jam the sounds together ignoring proper reading you get Uotsuka. Definitely it comes across as similar, so it's believable that Vodka wrote it in the book. (Then again I am not an experienced translator) That said, I don't think it is possible to prove that it is his real name instead of just a pun on his codename. Just because Shiho wrote her real name doesn't mean Vodka did so. I honestly don't trust most of the guidebooks, except for Conan Drill which appears to be the most official manga guide for the series. If I remember correctly there is one little note about the name: http://forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4399&p=225197&hilit=Conan+Drill+Vodka#p225197 It doesn't confirm anything and doesn't mention Gin.

It is true that Ooguro/Daiko Rentarou (大黒連太郎) was in Hattori's mermaid guestbook and Miyano Shiho's name (宮野 志保) was in Conan's. However, Vodka and Kurosawa Jin being in the guestbook is completely untrue. It was all rumor. There have been several investigations by experienced translators, and none ever said they were Gin and Vodka's real names. (Edit: This has been proven False! They are in the guestbook!) The other name is Conan's guestbook next to Shiho's is 魚塚三郎 (Without furigana it's a guess how it it read, but people seem to think it is family name = Sakanazuka, given name = Saburō). The other names are cut off.

I'm the reverting mod here. I reuploaded all the pictures you posted under the original names - not your filenames, so your pictures are all there. I didn't delete any of them - there are copies of them all. I did that because if you upload a picture under a new name to replace one on a page, the old picture goes into never-never-land on the server. Keeping all the different versions of an image is a good way to keep track of everything, and makes it easy to do server management down the line. The reason I changed two of the pictures back is because the anime pictures were simply bad. It's not your fault. The anime just didn't do them well. Compare for yourself below. vs and vs The first problem with the anime images is that they don't show the action well. It's just Sera's leg. If they were gifs, that would be another thing. Second, two of your anime images have huge watermarks from streaming sites and subbers (that mark in the upper left is bad) on them. That's no good either. We let the Japanese TV watermarks go because they are non-intrusive and very few people have all the DVDs and good image capturing. Skyechan does her best, but she can't replace every image on the wiki. We try to have some standards of quality here. Please understand. ------- I wish I could replace this one with this one Sera was drawn so badly in the anime in this episode. That's the reason why we have many manga images for Sera at the beginning. Much of the art in her intro episodes was low quality because the usual animators were working on a movie at the time. It would probably be better to find a more recent anime episode with better art...

File 859-861: The Prince of Kicks! (NO SPOILER)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
Regarding the middle brother's PS "Have you met the Wizard yet?" and Sera's response "you could say so"... I think the brother was asking about Shinichi. Sera's response, "you could say so", makes sense in that she didn't actually meet Shinichi, but she met Conan, so she sort of met Shinichi. Sera apparently knows Conan's real identity already, so this holds together. It seems the event where Shinichi earned the nickname of Wizard was at the beach meeting from the past. Ran specifically mentions "sounds of rippling waves, as if some sort of magic were at work." in Volume 80, File 7 (846), pg 4. I want to put out there for stab-in-the-dark potential that bioluminescent phytoplankton that glow when the water is disturbed would qualify as magical. It implies the middle brother might have also been present at the ocean meeting with Sera, Shinichi, and Ran since he asked about "The Wizard" in the text message. If so, he too could recognize Conan as Shinichi from back then. This would tie in really well with the Shuukichi is the middle brother theory since he is an expert at memorization and could recall Conan's face, which meshes with his immediate treatment of Conan as a skilled detective with no prompting or testing. PS: My guess is that the main body of the message that Sera received was a response to her question of how the brother knows Conan. Sera is of course surprised that anyone would have met Conan since she knows he is Shinichi and thus "shouldn't exist". She would ask this right away. The answer was something mundane like "I met him during a case" and not, "oh I recognize Conan is Shinichi" or the brother would not have followed up with the PS. -
I don't study Japanese, so my glossing is quite often wrong. Looking more into 画力対決, it seems to a specific expression for when one guy tries to draw another artist's character. Look at the image results for "画力対決". Maybe you can put it together as "Doesn't the Golgo (13) drawn at the redrawing showdown look like the younger brother (Juugo) Yokomizo?"
