  1. I had to bust out my secret weapon on this case... my mom. She nailed something I overlooked right away. Sera had no problem calling from inside the apartment, so Rumi was probably lying about the reception. Edit: or Kenya lied about having bad reception...
  2. Okay, what do you need help with?
  3. Detective Conan isn't over yet (will be at 20th anniversary next year), but 857 chapters later, Kaitou Kid remains uncaught and he is still thieving.
  4. Considering he breaks a lot of laws himself while investigating, I think he is inclined to be reasonable. He might comment about it, but give Shinichi credit for some common sense.
  5. No one besides you and me as far as I know. The problem is that later, Gosho seemed to go backwards on the issue: 3. A fan asked whether Gosho has already come up with the name and character design/setting for The Boss ? Gosho gave out an ambiguous statement: The Boss has already been come up with/has already appeared; the name also has already been come up with/has already appeared. But which option is the correct understanding, everyone has their own opinion.
  6. If Gosho told his wife the boss was for example, Kogoro's uncle or Agasa's brother, that would work perfectly with the idea that the boss hasn't appeared, but the wife knows who it is. Also recall the confirmed interview that Gosho said the boss's name has appeared. All he would have do is tell his wife the boss's name and then she would know. I still stick by the theory that the boss hasn't appeared yet precisely because Gosho was only specific about the name appearing rather than the boss. Furthermore when questioned later about a rumor that the boss himself has appeared, Gosho backtracked instead of clarifying further.
  7. It's actually indirectly Conan's fault. It is true that the FBI capturing Kir during Black Impact precipitated the events during Red vs Black. However, the reason why the FBI went after Kir is because they mistook her for Vermouth, their intended target. The reason why the FBI thought Kir was Vermouth was because Conan didn't notice Kir changed clothes and left them in Gin's car. He thought that she would still have the tracker on her, so the person on the motorcycle far away from the tracker's location must be Vermouth. This was not necessarily a wise assumption, but the FBI listened to Conan anyway. Naturally none of FBI vs Org would have happened if Conan didn't get a tracker stuck on Kir's shoe in the first place.
  8. Last chapter I can look at before the solution gets spoiled...

  10. If you are referring to Haibara's intro case, Shiho mistakenly sent Akemi's professor an APTX 4869 disk when it was mixed up for a disk of Akemi's pictures Shiho was sending back via the professor's address. According to Haibara, the disk had APTX data, and real names of the project's sponsors, addresses and such. Because it had secret information on it, this is probably why Haibara lied to Conan about losing the other disk she made from copying APTX data from Pisco's computer at the hotel where Gin and Pisco attacked her. She was afraid that if she told Conan about it, he would go charging into trouble and get himself killed. Maybe he doesn't know who the guy is or how to find him? That company president might not know a lot of info either, and it's the Black Org who has APTX and is committing the serious crimes. Maybe that man had a rough idea, but I doubt he knew much more. It would be bad for someone who resents the Org to have secret information. In any case, Gosho's method of writing the plot has changed a lot since the beginning. I would not focus so much on those older cases when thinking about the Black Organization because of all the changes. The Black Org seemed more like the Magic Kaito Org back then, and it was not taken as seriously as Gosho writes them today. Gosho had more plot weaknesses in the earlier writing too. In the game demo bombing case earlier on, remember how Conan used Kogoro's voice in front of a crowd of people and the police to order the criminal to confess about the Organization? That's pretty strange because the Organization knew to bomb the meeting place where the culprit and Tequila met right away. They must have known something went wrong. It would be smart of them to send someone to check on Tequila, figure out why he died, or spy on the investigation. It would also be reasonable to listen to the deductions of the detective investigating just in case the detective or police found something suspicious on Tequila's corpse. That's what I mean by plot weakness. Gosho has since changed the Organization to be more careful and interested in silencing all witnesses.
  11. His wiki page explains that Shiho was ordered to test APTX 4869 on him, but he escaped before she could. The Black Org was never shown targeting him after that, maybe because he was very low rank and considered useless.
  12. As far as I am aware, Ai doesn't give Shinichi a bunch of antidotes for two reasons. The first is that Shinichi's body builds up resistance to the antidote every time he takes it. If Shinichi takes two too close together, the second one works for much less time than it is supposed to. If she gives him too many in a short amount of time, Shinichi could build up too much resistance to the antidote and it will stop working. The second reason Ai doesn't give Shinichi antidotes is because Shinichi has a bad tendency to get into dangerous public situations as an adult. I quote a spoiler: "I'm not going to give it [the antidote] to some detective in a romantic comedy who becomes a giant without heed to where he is. " She starts guessing Okiya is Akai in Murder at Mouri Detective Agency (Manga: 798-800, Anime: 672-674), and has a more clear revelation in Don't make that kind of face (Manga: 802, Anime: 675).
  13. I don't have one. I haven't seen a theory about a well known character I can fully support. I honestly think the boss is a character we haven't seen yet. My second guess is it is a minor character who we haven't heard much from since whenever they showed up.
  14. Jodie was extremely out of character stupid in this case. Gosho basically made her into an idiot to force the plot forward in an extremely awkward way. People try to blame the severe lapse of judgement on her emotional distress from Shuu's death, but her actions were too over the top dumb compared with how she acted before. Jodie's previous Akai-related stupid moves, like chasing Scar Akai blindly, were believable because she was in situations directly involving someone she thought might be Akai and she had no time to think about what to do. Even though she lost her composure around Scar Akai, Jodie didn't completely lose her mind during the unrelated case/hostage crisis events. This way, Jodie's portrayal was balanced between an having an emotional crisis and maintaining the skill she showed in the Vermouth and Kir arcs. But now, she is unbalanced. Jodie just completely spilled out highly confidential Black Org related details to a random stranger in an uncharacteristic fashion because the guy talked to her. Jodie wasn't in a split second decision situation where bad decisions typically happen because of high pressure. She was at a flower-viewing shrine and about to meet Conan to discuss confidential info. Vermouth knows about Conan, and Jodie knows Vermouth knows about Conan. Vermouth can bug/stalk people very effectively. This is the sort of scenario when Jodie should be most on her toes. Emotional distress from Shuu's death currently feels like a bad excuse for Jodie to give insider info to Bourbon to progress the plot. Jodie is a strong woman who confronted the killer who murdered her beloved parents without losing her head, and Vermouth got away on top of it. That didn't phase Jodie. It was just Conan's words this time, after the fact Akai is dead has had quite a while to sink in. Furthermore, she is an FBI agent in a covert job where death in the line of duty is likely. It would have made a lot more sense if Gosho had written the conversation between Jodie and Bourbon in 850 pgs 9 and 10 to be between Conan and Jodie instead with Bourbon or Vermouth listening in. It seems like the only point was to have Jodie give Bourbon a business card, something which could have been written to happen on page 7 instead. Sato and Eri seem to be the only hopes left for strong female leads. Gosho keeps nerfing them into damsels to be rescued by super cool detectives...
  15. Akai didn't need anonymous tipping. Jodie told him about the tracker Conan accidentally got stuck on Kir's shoe by phone (she tells Conan she told Akai). Akai realized if Conan didn't get the tracker back and it was found, the Organization would attack Kogoro thinking he planted it because Kogoro was the last suspicious person at Kir's apartment. Akai left defending Domon up to Jodie and Conan, and went off to somewhere he thought the Black Organization would first look for Kogoro -- at the agency, set up his sniper rifle to target the possible buildings they might try to kill Kogoro from, and waited. This is Akai's logic and the origin the information that led Akai to the Mouri Detective Agency with a sniper rifle. This is also how he knew to take out the thing Gin was holding and talking into. The boss can't just pull strings from both sides without knowing those sides exist and details about the people being manipulated. You have to know your enemy to attack them effectively. (Dumb luck only gets you so far and the boss as a cautious person would not rely on it.) How and when did the boss learn the information required to mess with Akai and Conan and kept updated on their whereabouts, plans, and equipment? Every bit of information and knowledge must have a source, and the boss must have a logical reason to have overheard or tapped that source at a specific time to learn that information. As for "these are all just theories", the point of a theory is to provide a thoughtful and rational explanation for something. A theory gains strength and differentiates itself from the rest of the pack by providing evidence and arguments for a certain point of view. We want those types of theories because otherwise this thread would be full of unsupportable crap like the boss is Gosho or Barack Obama. (We certainly have enough of that type) Anyone can make a story to explain why a certain character might be the boss, like what you did with your Mouri family history story. That story isn't worth anything though unless you can prove it, or parts of it actually happened or were likely happen. What is so special about Ellery Queen in particular? Hattori likes Ellery Queen. These holes also need to be addressed, as well as the anime/movie only character/story references, and the contradiction between the boss being overly-careful and allowing Kogoro to be targeted with the hope Vermouth would step in.
  16. The watch section was closed down years ago because lawyers threatened the site. There are a bunch of messages explaining this around the forum. So no, you can't watch Detective Conan here anymore.
  17. Either way, it makes sense. Probably a reference to Iron Chef's Chairman. Your translation looks correct. It's this guy. I think you are on the right track with the history reference. I forgot who Shuukichi Haneda (羽田 秀吉) was named after, but wasn't it a general or something like that? 太閤; 大閤 【たいこう】 (n) (hon) (esp. refers to Toyotomi Hideyoshi) (See 関白・かんぱく) taiko; title for a regent, later for the grand chancellor, also for the father of an Imperial adviser (advisor) who passed the role to his son
  18. So the boss is allowing the best killers in the Organization to try to murder her beloved spouse and possibly her daughter, because she is hoping her unreliable favorite will stop it in time by acting out of line? That's a pretty big error. It also goes against what Vermouth said about the boss being overly cautious. Why would the boss be so reckless with the ones she loves? The boss didn't know that Conan or Akai would be there, so they don't count. That leaves the questionably reliable Vermouth. The boss is not omniscient. Gin isn't known for lying. I can't think of a single instance where something Gin said has been proven untrue, ignoring things where Gin may have been lied to himself. The boss could say Kogoro is being mined for information, or is under watch because of involvement in past cases. Both of those are believable. Gin let Kogoro go when Vermouth lied and said she was using Kogoro for some purpose. If he listens to Vermouth, whom he does not trust after the Haunted Ship incident, surely the person that Gin works for is more trustworthy. Or, if Gin is insubordinate, have him killed. This is purely hypothetical so it can't be used as valid evidence. There is no evidence that Eri planned to force Kogoro or Ran out of the house on such short notice.
  19. Disappointed with recent case. Gosho turned Jodie into Yamamura for crappy, half-baked plot development. At least the murder mystery was decent.

  20. Jodie was extremely out of character stupid in this case. While she was never Conan or Akai level, Gosho basically made her into an idiot to force the plot forward in an extremely awkward way. Jodie was never this bad in the Vermouth or Kir arc. I'm not impressed with the plot right now. Just had to get that off my chest. I can tolerate slow plot and plot without much action as long it is plausible and the logic works, but this is character sacrifice for badly done plot progression. Jodie is a half decent law enforcement type character who even Vermouth respected for being persistent and smart enough to piece together her whacked up aging. It sucks to see her degraded to Yamamura level.
  21. Gin received permission from boss to kill Kogoro in FBI vs. Org. The boss could have easily refused, claiming Kogoro is part of a plan or something. Gin is pretty loyal. Also, Eri did not know Ran went over to Agasa's. She could have been killed as well. Don't you think the boss would think it is risky to rely on Vermouth to defy Gin rather than take the simple route and tell Gin to stand down for now? Also Midori is an anime original character who appeared late in the manga as a cameo. Gosho would not have written her into the main plot without setting her up as a serious character in the manga first. Ditto goes with the movie 2 plot. It has to be in the manga to be considered canon.
  22. Seems like an appropriate thread to note that Knightus mentioned that DCTP's regular weekly chapter translation might be ending sometime soon. No official announcements but in his words: "I'll be honest - after over 250 chapters, I think the group may have finally reached the point where weekly translation is no longer sustainable. Sorry if this news causes a panic. In the future, I imagine, we probably won't be able to do every single case. But, anyways, we're not announcing anything yet... might have more info in May (when the anime operation ends)."
