Because they were hauling Banba off and Conan needed to ask the determining question?
-
And here comes the English courtesy of the amazing Zenthisoror from the DCTP cbox Title: A Fate that Returned to Fire Mouri and Banba sit on some chairs and discuss the situation. Mouri: "The hairbrush...did you ever let anybody else use it?" Banba: "I don't think so...I've been living with Hatsune for about half a year now. Although maybe some detective might have used it whilst I was out..." Amuro: "I have never been inside your house!" Banba: "The fact that you're a detective makes you suspect...if you're skilled enough to dodge the guy I hired... then when you came to my house, you could've taken some of my hairs off the brush and replaced it with somebody else's and then put the guilt on me." Amuro: "Ah..no, I wouldn't ever do such a spy-ish sort of thing..." Megure: "I'm afraid you're wrong in any case. I just received the results from forensics. The hair on the hairbrush is definitely Mr Banba's." Amuro: "So that means that..." Takagi: "Permission to escort you to a police station?" Banba: "Fine!" Takagi: "I've parked the car a little bit far so you'll need an umbrella, or else you might get wet..." Banba: "It's raining again?" Takagi: "Yes...quite heavily..." Banba: "I don't mind getting a little wet." They start to make their way out. Conan puts Mouri to sleep from under the table. Mouri (Conan): "Are you sure about all this? Banba? Did you really..." Banba: "Well what can I do? It's come to this so I'll just have to show I'm innocent at the station..." Mouri: "I see...in which case...you are not the murderer!" Amuro: "Eh?" Megure: "Oh come off it, Mouri..." Mouri: "Recall this...in terms of doors going out into the carpark...there was also a way via the toilet window... in which case the only way to go is by the front door...somebody would have certainly seen if he, Banba, the main man of the show, went out that way." Amuro: "It might be the case that it wasn't that he wasn't seen, just wasn't noticed. He could've disguised himself in the toilet, if he'd hidden his clothes in their beforehand... like, a knitted cap or a long windbreaker..." Banba: "What about the phone call before the explosion? She said "Goodbye!" Amuro: "Did she really call you just before the car caught fire? Maybe what actually happened was that - " Banba: "That's all just words! Hatsune really did... Check her phone!" Takagi: "Well we could put back together the data but a whole conversation - " Megure: "And these clothes that were used for the disguise?" Amuro: "He could have flushed them down the toilet by cutting them into lots of tiny pieces with a pair of scissors and a knife..." Mouri: "What about shoes? You can't easily cut up those..." Amuro: "He wouldn't need to change those! If he kept on walking in them then it wouldn't make any difference anyway." Mouri: "The shoes are evidence that he is not the murderer." Takagi looks at the soles of the shoes that Banba had taken off. There's cream from the cake in its grooves. Ran: "Because he trod on the cake..." "When?" Ran: "Before Hatsune left the shop." Takagi: "If he'd walked on the wet pavement...Especially if he'd been in a hurry to get back into the shop once he'd set the car on fire!" Megure: "So, do you say that Banba never went out of the shop..." Mouri: "I thought it was trick that he'd pulled off at first. I thought, by some way or other, he'd changed his shoes...but the cake in question was some that this here young detective dropped and then got trodden on just by chance... Banba never mentioned the cream on his soles to me...he is even now willingly leaving the shop into the rain outside, risking his previous 'evidence'...That is how I realized that the cream isn't a part of a trick...it is real affirmative evidence that he is innocent." Amuro: "But, but, what about the DNA? On Hatsune's false nail - " Mouri: "Couldn't it have been her own skin?" Amuro: "What...what are you saying? Two people would have to be relatives otherwise a close match would indicate...In any case, women don't have y chromosomes, so you should be able to work things out quite quickly! Mouri: "The fact is, the skin had been corrupted with all the mud and the rain...it could be that because the sex chromosomes were undiscernable." Amuro: "But even still...that the two of them...coincidentally..." Mouri: "Their meeting might have been a coincidence...but what drew them together might have been necessity, because they were twins..." Mouri talks about the hotel fire incident. Amuro explains about monozygotic but dual gender identical twins. He hears from Banba that her height was around the higher 140s. Amuro: "In the case of monozygotic (identical) opposite sex twins, the female has Turner's syndrome and so is prone to shorter statures." Banba: "But...why was there her skin on the ends of the nail?" Mouri: "When she'd heard you were rescued from the same fire, she said, 'I'll investigate that myself'. The only conclusion possible is that she would use DNA sequencing to find out if you two were twins. We could surmise that when she got out of her car, she got a call from the company with her results...there was no way they could get married...being identical twins... The skin on the false nail was probably a result from her scratching her tearing at her face as she cried, to such an extent that the nail fail off...it fell into the umbrella that she'd dropped and was blown away...and that we're now investigating and awaiting the results of." Megure gets a phone call Megure: "Apart from the sex chromosomes the others matched Banba's exactly and it also fitted the DNA from the corpse." It is confirmed that the DNA is hers. Takagi: "So it was suicide..." Megure: "The timing of the company was pretty bad." Takagi: "They heard it was the wedding tomorrow, so they probably wanted to get in their news as quickly as possible...before it was too late." Conan narrates. Conan: "Banba's cry cut split through the rain and echoed all around...it wasn't clear why she had chosen to die by fire... perhaps in order to restart everything she'd wanted to go back to the beginning...into the midst of the flames that set the pair of them towards this fate..." The next day Amuro works part time at Poirot, and asks to be made Mouri's apprentice. Amuro: (whispers in Mouri's ear) - "As tuition fees, I was thinking of paying about................per case...." Mouri: "Are you serious?! Indeed! In which case, young Amuro, call me, "Master Mouri"!" Amuro: "Yes, sir, Master Mouri!" Conan: "And here's another troublesome one..." end

The manga spoilers just keep getting better and better.

I was asked this question by Balthazar, but I'll post it here. I picked Tohru because that is how AnimeNewsNetwork and a few other big websites romanize the name of the voice actor Tohru Furuya. It's a nod to Amuro's name origin. Also I mainspaced the article because manga spoilers indicated he was likely going to have an important role:

What is the connection between Gin and Sherry?
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Kiel95's topic in General
Gin's age is unknown. Also, he's also been in a physical relationship with Vermouth. -
Sorry for the double post but spoilers are spoilers. There are some amazing spoilers this week. Conan48:69 posted the raw spoilers. Conan#1 Had this to say on the Cbox: File 795 title 「炎へと回帰する運命」(The Fate of Returning From Flame) コナンの周囲に探偵続々!? 次号、衝撃の新シリーズ!!(Last page sidenote: The detectives are around Conan!? Next issue, the impact of new series.) 毛利「マ、マジで!? 採用~!!私の事は先生と呼びなさい安室君!」 安室「はい、毛利先生!!」(Look like Kogoro taking Amuro as his disciple) コナン『また面倒臭い奴が…』 (Conan said another troublesome person, look like Conan jealous that Amuro may become his love rival) From my own translation glossing: Really Rough translation here... Kogoro accuses Amuro. Amuro "So you're saying I left clothes for disguise in the bathroom, say a long wind breaker and knit cap, and I phoned Banba just before the car starts burning, saying 'Sayonara' in a weeping voice...." Anyway it was a suicide. Kyuu was right, she was an identical twin to Banba with Turner syndrome so she came out looking female, she got the results back on the phone, and was upset. She immolated herself. Did Amuro just start working part time at the Poirot!?!?!?!? That could be problematic. Especially if Haibara or Sera visit.

But why? -
What is the connection between Gin and Sherry?
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Kiel95's topic in General
Gin and Sherry could have come into contact that way. I'm in the mutual romance camp, but only because I theorize that Shiho was socially inexperienced which meant she was taken advantage of. Shiho's first problem is that she was always with people much older than her because she was far advanced in school courtesy her Org sponsered science-focused prodigy upbringing. She saw how her sister formed a close relationship with Akai (5 years ago is when that started, Shiho was working for the Org in a lab at the time at the age of 13) and wanted the same for herself, but was naive and Gin took advantage of that. Shiho wised up later (I'd like to think her sister advised) and dumped him, but Gin was still attached and thus very pissed. Gin being the one to offer (although the boss may have asked him to) the 10b yen robbery deal to Akemi knowing he would kill Akemi at the end anyway may have been Gin's way of getting revenge on Shiho. Shiho soon took off after her sister's death and now the doubly "betrayed" Gin was very eager to see Shiho dead. Shiho wouldn't know Akai as Akai because he was under the alias Moroboshi Dai at the time. She would know his face, and Akai's actions suggest she would recognize him which is why he is avoiding confronting her. -
Thanks for the critique. I don't know if spoilers have hit yet because I haven't looked. Some basic facts for anyone interested in trying to solve the case. In terms of setup, the if we arbitrarily call the entrance with the that Kogoro initially used of the restaurant as the south facing side, the parking lot is to the west. Based on their view of the parking lot and the large windows, Kogoro and friends are sitting on the west side of the restaurant. The restroom appears to be on the North side based on the side of the room Kogoro and Conan are sitting. (as long as they didn't change benches). That means the alley outside the bathroom runs along north side of the building and to the parking lot. The wind was blowing to the west and maybe slightly south based on the flag and how Kogoro and Ran were holding the umbrella. This means anything in the alley will be blown towards the parking lot. There is a door on the west side to the parking lot, but it apparently wasn't used. The fence on the north side of the lot might have given a little protection from the rain if the wind was blowing. Hatsune parked on south side of the lot a few (inconsistent number) cars down from the restaurant itself. The umbrella was found against the westmost car on the north side of the lot. Banba's right pants leg above the knee was coated with cake, as was the bottom of his left shoe. He is wearing tennis-shoes by the way which normally are relatively non-absorbent and easily washable. The state of his pants haven't changed when Amuro knocks him over but the cake is no longer on the bottom of her shoe. The picture and text from the Kamon on the cellphone is probably legit based on the nails. This was made at 8:18. At this time, the wife said she was set to return in thirty minutes. Banba went to get a report right after so he has ~30 minutes to setup the crime ahead of time of Kamon arriving. Banba's Sayonara call came in at 8:54, 6 minutes later. This is a very short amount of time which limits trick complexity which is presumably enough time meet Kamon, knock her out, organize and light the very simple slow burn mechanism (~5 minutes or one cigarrete), come back in, clean up, and rejoin the restaurant. Ran managed to connect her call to police at 9:21, 27 minutes after the fire started approximately. Banba probably wouldn't have done any killing before he heard the results of the investigation. Hatsune parked on south side of the lot a few (inconsistent number) cars down from the restaurant itself. The umbrella was found against the westmost car on the north side of the lot. Contrary to the police evaluation, The wind was not blowing when the arson occured. That means the position of the umbrella is strange, because the car where the umbrella in found is Northwest which is not quite the West and slightly south direction of the wind earlier. It also means that the umbrella was dropped before or after the time of the arson, likely before as someone might have noticed it skittering across the lot afterwards. It's also kind of strange the nail was caught in the umbrella in the first place of it was open... There are tables as chairs outside the restaurant but require going close the the brightly lit window to retrive which makes it unlikely. ------ Basically I think Banba took off his jacket, flipped his shirt inside out so that when it got wet, he could flip it back and cover it up, rolled up his pants, took off his socks, but kept his shoes. Banba jumped out the bathroom window. The side door was locked and someone would have noticed the front door, so the bathroom window is all we have. Banba's shoes and legs would have gotten dirty and he noticed he made prints. Banba waited for Hatsune to return about 30 minutes later somewhere it would be somewhat dry (under one of the tables outside where no one could see him?). He attacked her by her car when she opened the car door. He was scratched in the struggle causing the two nails to drop, one on the ground and one into the upside-down umbrella. He put her unconscious body in the car and headed back towards the restaurant after setting the burn mechanism. At this point I'm not really sure what Banba did. He could have grabbed Hatsune's umbrella, carried it upside-down to the alley, and then walk-rolled it to the window by walking on the inside of the open umbrella so that he destroyed his earlier prints and kept his shoes mostly dry so as not to leave shoe prints on the wall by going back in the bathroom. He could have also taken his shoes off in the umbrella, stood in the umbrella, climbed the wall with dry bare feet, grabbed the umbrella handle from the window, and pulled the umbrella with his shoes up, then threw the umbrella back to ground where the wind blew it to the lot. Banba also could have used supplies from inside the car to make cardboard shoes and not used the umbrella. In any case, the umbrella wound up in the parking lot with an undamaged fake nail somehow. Regardless of what happened, he went back through the window. He reversed his shirt, put on his jacket, cleaned himself and especially his shoes, which were muddy, as best he could, he rolled back down his pants, put back on his jacket and socks, and then reentered the restaurant looking mostly normal. He tripped Amuro not only to disguise the blood, but to get himself a little wet as well. Problems include why the 2nd fake nail didn't fall out or wasn't damaged when Banba used the umbrella (if he used it at all.), and why the umbrella got hooked on the last car in the parking lot instead of a closer one. If the umbrella was an important clue as it would be in my scenario, why weren't we shown it? Also, there is a lack of any wetness corresponding to shoe or footprints climbing the wall. I feel like we really don't have enough clues to really solve the case. I wish Takagi was a bit more clear on the conditions of the back alleyway, like what the ground was made of, and if the rain would have damaged evidence. =============== Re Kyuu and the height issue: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17612860 Summary twins (Japanese at least) are shorter than single births at final height.

I'm pretty sure he paid attention because there was nothing else to do while the floor was hostage. The floor wasn't freed until Kogoro finished. That said, I don't think Scar Akai noticed how "Sleeping Kogoro" really works.---- Amuro totally pissed Banba off on purpose just to trip him to see the bottom of his shoes. Heck, Amuro even tried to get Mouri to notice. ("Mouri-san, please hold his legs!") I wonder if Amuro will notice that Mouri never looked at the bottom of the shoes if Conan does a sleeping detective show. ---- I'm with everyone else that Banba and Kamon are brother/sister or fraternal twins. I'm not sure what the height has to do with it, because as far as I know only identical twins have height issues. As expected, the cake on the bottom of Banba's shoes vanished. I wonder if the trick is just really simple for this case. Kamon calls Banba out (to tell him the marriage is off because they're related) Banba rolls up his trousers/took off his socks to prevent them from being splashed and jumps out the bathroom window. Kamon tells Banba the marriage is off. She doesn't make it to the part that they are related before Banba attacks her. Banba attacks Kamon and put her unconscious body in the car. He uses a slow burning technique to set up the arson, like his other cellphone so it would spark (apparently that's easy to do), or a cigarette or something of that fashion He goes back through the bathroom window, fixes his trousers and socks and washes off his shoes He goes back into the restaurant and attacks Amuro to cover up a scratch on his hand he got when Kamon tried to fight him off. He makes up a phone call from Kamon when he thinks the arson is about to start.

Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
Unless I made a serious error (Which is possible, but I don't think so if you are referring to this post from page 3), I never said Shinichi's death via APTX 4869 would look like a "natural" death. Presumably in absence of other trauma, using APTX would create the impression of a "natural" death, but Shinichi did have the clonk on the head that you mentioned. I presume if APTX isn't detected, forensics will suspect the head injury was the cause of the fatality. It's a murder, but one anyone with strength can pull off, so for the Black Org it is "better" than using a gun because only a high level criminal would have one of those - narrowing the suspect pool quite a bit. Shinichi probably made a few enemies considering his case solving which Gin could probably deduce on the spot without knowing Shinichi before. (Megure familiar with him, people recognized Shinichi meaning fame, clearly skilled at case solving) Super Takagi flying leap as it dropped? -

I'd appreciate a few seconds of your time to vote on what to do with Amuro's wiki article. -
I've been quietly working on an article for Amuro which you can see here and I'm not sure what to do with it. Suggestions? (Proper name, want a section elaborated on, more pictures, should we mention him as a suspect in the Bourbon article/scar Akai article, too premature, etc...)
-
I'm pretty sure Amuro antagonized the guy to make him him angry enough to attack so that Amuro could dodge/trip him in order to see the bottom of his shoes. Quite a manipulative guy, this Amuro; he's on par with Conan.
-
Conan barely did anything worthy of attention until the end. I have a feeling Conan is just going to give one or two minor leading hints and Amuro is going to steal the show instead of Conan using the bowtie and tranquilizer on Kogoro. If it is that way, Conan wouldn't do anything too bad in front of Amuro, even though I want Conan to mess up. *Wishes Conan would dart Amuro instead of Kogoro* Also Ran showed some interest in the DNA testing. She seems suspicious but hiding it. I wonder if she wants to DNA test Conan and Shinichi...

Spoilerama courtesy the awesome Zenthisoror for the DCTP spoiler cbox! Title: DNA Tests Banba: "A detective? That's so weird! Why the hell are you dressed like a waiter?" Amuro: "I asked Hatsune to choose the restaurant where I was being employed...in order to observe your behaviour. She'd asked me to investigate whether there was a chance you were involved with some woman, with you being as you are. That's why I dropped the cake on purpose." "I dropped the cake on you in the hope that you'd be too embarrassed to approach a woman...as it turned out, you got along pretty well with them without any sign of embarrassment whatsoever...anyway, far from being able to carry out my work... Hatsune herself has been burnt to death...but as for the situation I was investigating, perhaps he in the sunglasses will be able to shed some light on this? After all, he just happened to be there during the report on the progress so far of preliminary investigations..." Megure: "Who are you?!" Amuro: "My guess is that he's a detective...he'd been employed by Banba to find out who his girlfriend had been meeting in secret lately...he managed to work out the secret meeting place, but the man she was meeting was wearing a hat and a hoodie and his face wasn't discernible...and then he realized that the voice of that hooded man was similar to that of me, a waiter." "That is why he called me over to make his order, to check my voice...and then by some signal or other he indicated to Banba that I and Hastune's secret visitor were one and the same person. Just beforehand, he called Banba out to the toilet so that he could warn him that said mystery gentleman might just possibly be inside the restaurant...and that he was now going to investigate further. Isn't that so?" Haruoka: "In...in...indeed! To think that you were a detective...I tried to follow you and got thoroughly put down." Takagi: "But, you were going to marry her, knowing that she was seeing somebody else?" Mouri: "Wouldn't you normally ask the lady herself?" Banba: "Haruoka told me that she hadn't seen the guy since that one meeting, and I thought she'd turn on me if she found out I'd been investigating her! We're really close, after all, we trusted each other enough to tell each other that we were both adopted as kids..." Mouri: "If you'd asked me, I would have revealed this guy to be a detective straight away!" Banba: "But you're too famous now. Everybody knows your face...and I was hoping to introduce you later to Hatsune." Mouri: "But if you'd left it to me....You know, she might've committed suicide because this guy told her on the phone about your loutish behaviour..." Amuro: "I didn't say anything about that." Banba: "She said goodbye. She was crying..." He shows the inspector his phone record at 8:54pm. The 110 call occurred at 9:21pm... Megure makes a comment about the thirty minute gap between the incident and the call... Ran: "That's because we tried to call the ambulance and fire brigade first and that was more of a hassle than we anticipated... but by the time the ambulance arrived....the fire inside of the car was apparently completely out of control..." Conan ponders on why the car was burning in such an extravagant manner...Ran tells him that every now and again there had been some smaller explosions... Takagi explains that that was probably due to the large bulk of aerosols, paper and cardboard inside the car. Megure asks Banba why they'd had these items. Banba replies that after the party the two of them had been planning to stencil their car with spray paint. Then they'd turn up to the wedding in it, and surprise everybody. Banba: "If you think I'm lying look at my mail. There's a message saying we'd got together all the items we needed." Megure looks at the "I'll be back in 30 mins" message from the nail salon, and starts saying that Banba knew about the inflammable materials in the car and what time she'd be coming back to the restaurant....and the skin sample under the nail was a pretty close match...so you could possibly...he theorizes... Amuro: "You say pretty close...but it's possible that with the rain and the dirt...unless you're a relative, a near match would basically indicate..." Amuro casts a glance of suspicion in Banba's direction. Banba: "What?!" He starts to throw himself at Amuro, but Amuro steps lightly out of the way and says (perhaps with exaggeration), Amuro: "Please stop...." Mouri calms down Banba whilst Conan notices something on the sole of one of Banba's shoe. Conan: "Hmm? So how did he..." Banba agrees to a more exact DNA test and goes off with Takagi. Conan: "Well, once we get a proper result things will become a little clearer...we can start thinking about the trick after that." Ran: "But DNA tests are pretty incredible, aren't they?" Conan: "Yeah, I guess they are." Ran: "I mean, if somebody changed their entire appearance, you'd still be able to tell who they are..." Conan: "Ye...Yeah..." Takagi tells Megure that the key to the case might be the one door from the back of the shop into the carpark. If somebody had gone in and out of the front entrance, somebody would remember... You could also get to the carpark by getting out of the toilet... Underneath the window there's a huge puddle of water...if somebody had gone through that there ought to be some footprints inside... There's nobody in the shop with dirty hems or shoes... Later, they talk about how windy it was the time of the crime...and how Hatsune's umbrella had been blown away to the other end of the car park... Conan: "The wind? True...it was rather windy when we arrived at the shop..." Megure gathers the two detectives, Haruka and Amuro. Megure: "Do you know of any disputes? Any worries that were dire enough to push somebody towards suicide?" Haruoka: "Hmm, not really. Banba was a bit shocked when I told him she'd met a man....more recently, I think he was concerned about these mysterious phone calls she'd been covertly making to somebody...although, she was probably just talking to this here person..." Amuro: "Ah...no...my communication with her was entirely by mail...in terms of face to face meetings, the one time was the one you observed...however, there was one time when her face seemed to cloud over briefly... I'd been investigating Banba and I found out that she and he had both been rescued from a burning hotel...and they'd been raised without knowledge of their parentage in a church community... " Conan: "Eh?" Megure: "So the two of them both lost their parents in the fire?" "Probably...the two of them were babies at the time." Megure: "So the two were childhood friends?" Amuro: "No...he found a foster family straight away...she stayed at the church for a bit longer..." Megure: "But why would that make Hatsune suddenly grim?" Amuro: "Who knows? She said she'd continue that line of investigation herself." Conan: "Hey, Ran-neesan? Hatsune's height...she was little shorter than you wasn't she?" Ran: "Yes...but she was wearing high heeled boots so she might have only been about 150cm." Conan: "The average height for a woman is about 159 isn't it?" Chiba confirms that the corpse is lacking one false nail. Conan runs outside and asks the crime scene investigators where they'd found Hatsune's umbrella. At that spot, the tyres and car bodies act as rainshields and so the ground is hardly dirty at all... Conan finds a false nail there, with some blood and skin on its tip and he tells the investigator. Conan: "If I'm not mistaken...this should make everything clear...who took away her life...and...if everything is as I have deduced... (he glances at Banba) a sorrowful truth will be revealed, on the eve of a wedding...one which it would have been better not to have known." Done!

Amuro Tooru speculation thread
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
I'd like to thank everyone for copying their deductions over into this thread. I'm with everyone else that he's a strong Bourbon candidate. I like the idea of him owning a detective agency instead of coming up with work as needed. (Later edit: This turned out not to be the case though.) Amuro Tohru is Bourbon is Scar Akai See also the DCTP link. Also consider referencing the Bourbon is Scar Akai theory. Index Amuro is Bourbon is Scar Akai . . . Direct Evidence . . . Literary device arguments . . . Minor points - i.e. weak arguments Miscellaneous . . . Amuro is not Akai . . . Amuro is not a spy infiltrating the Black Organization - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Direct Evidence ∎ Amuro is a skilled detective, yet chooses unethical courses of action that are harmful to others. Amuro is a detective and very skilled at intelligence gathering as Bourbon was stated to be. That said, unlike other detectives so far, Amuro is a calculating type who chooses avoidable courses of action (or non-action) that may result in harm to others that the "ethical detectives" in the series would have found unconscionable. • Amuro doesn't intervene when a suspect he knows to be innocent is half a step from destroying his exonerating evidence because it seems he was testing Kogoro. . . . . Although it appeared he messed up in his introductory case, Amuro likely threw case on purpose to test Kogoro/Conan (depending on how much he knows) which will be explained below. While other characters have tested detectives by throwing cases before (ex. Sera and Conan, Hattori and Conan), what makes this case different from the others is that Amuro was prepared to let the innocent suspect destroy the proof of his evidence had Kogoro (really Conan) not intervened at the last second. This kind of recklessness was not warranted because Kogoro had given no indication of understanding the case or noticing the clues, and Conan has not spoken up about the critical clue either. . . . . Amuro deliberately antagonizes the main suspect, Banba, who is drunk, by accusing him of being his fiancé's murderer. Banba into goaded into rushing him, so Amuro dodges and trips Banba. The condition of the bottom of Banba's shoes is important for the case, and Amuro asks Kogoro to hold Banba's legs. This whole interaction suggests that Amuro knew the bottom on Banba's shoes was important to the case, yet he seemed to overlook the now visible information on the bottom of the shoes that would have proved Banba's innocence. . . . . Later, Banba is about to be lead away and the clue destroyed by walking outside in the rain. Amuro's "..." (795.4) as Banba prepares to leave seems to indicate that he is waiting for Kogoro to intervene, yet Amuro does not try to stop Banba when Kogoro does nothing even as Banba is halfway out the door. After Kogoro begins his deduction, Amuro explains the genetic condition that the dead fiancé had in great detail without using any references perhaps indicating he may have known about it or suspected it beforehand. . . . . Assuming Amuro purposefully got his deduction wrong, that means Amuro didn't speak up even at the last minute when Banba was about to go outside and inadvertently destroy the critical clue showing his innocence. If you think about it, this kind of behavior isn't normal for good detectives in DC. Good detectives never want innocent suspects to be accused even if this means more trouble for the detective to prove it (unless they have told the police ahead of time they are doing a trick and are trying to get the real culprit to incriminate themselves). This shows that Amuro isn't like the normal DC detectives, but is calculating instead. • Amuro noticed that Conan was alone with a murderer and considered that Conan might have been kidnapped, yet said nothing about it until others realized Conan and the murder suspect were gone. . . . . Amuro's calculating behavior is further shown when he disregards Conan's safety in pursuit of a case connected to the murder at Mouri Detective Agency. Amuro had already deduced a particular suspect was the likely the culprit, and thus she was bad news. Later, he notices her and Conan's shoes are missing, and that Conan hasn't appeared in some time. It is impossible for him not to have guessed that Conan went with the likely murderer, but instead he fails to bring it up. Only later when the others draw the same conclusion does Amuro reveal his thoughts. This failure to care about Conan is obvious when contrasted to everyone panicking. ∎ Amuro went missing when Scar Akai appeared. Amuro had just learned about Sera before she was targeted by Scar Akai. He was absent from his job at the Poirot when Scar Akai appeared outside the detective agency in 801 where Sera was walking, likely to "test" her as he did with the FBI. Also 800 was Amuro's first time encountering Sera (recently) as far as we know. Scar Akai wouldn't be able to pinpoint Sera without knowing who she was associating with and where she hangs out, both of which Amuro learned in 800. ∎ Amuro matches Gin's description of his personality. Gin said Bourbon was irritating. (V67-8 pg 13-14). Amuro has a type of personality Gin would not like because Amuro acts cheerful and friendly. Amuro does not hide his emotions and is quite expressive. He is also manipulative. Amuro is also a good detective. ∎ Amuro is much richer than would be expected for his job. When Amuro offers Kogoro an unknown "tuition" per case Kogoro brings him on, the amount he offers is enough to get Kogoro excited and accept Amuro as an apprentice without hesitation. This is strange because Amuro would not be expected to have much money because he is young, lacks a formal agency, and works part time at restaurants in one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. Amuro also owns a nice car (RX-7), and maintenance, parking, and upkeep are not cheap. ∎ Amuro placed himself close to the Mouri Detective Agency. Scar Akai is known to be interested in the agency as well. Amuro has an interest in the Mouri Detective Agency shown by him taking a part time job at the Poirot and asking to be Kogoro's apprentice despite being a better detective than Kogoro which Ran points out. Amuro will be able to access the agency and track Kogoro and Conan's movements with relative ease. Bourbon should have an interest in Kogoro/Conan because Scar Akai has seen two Conan cases as well as saw fit to keep Kogoro's cellphone number with him. Kogoro's number was on Kir's phone, whom Bourbon should suspect to be a traitor if he believes Akai is not dead. Scar Akai thinks the Mouri Detective agency may be related to Akai. If we consider what Gin said about Bourbon is true, that he doesn't believe Akai is dead, that means Bourbon’s logic requires Kir to be a traitor who assisted somehow in making it seem like she killed Akai because trying to come up with a plausible way Akai could survive where Kir doesn't knowingly participate is practically impossible. Bourbon (as Scar Akai) has done investigation on Kir, he knew Kogoro's cellphone number somehow in order to text Kogoro the answer in the 13 red shirts case. I looked back through prior cases, and a few clients have phoned through Kogoro's cellphone as part of a case, but no new clients first contact Kogoro using it. That leads me to believe that Kogoro’s cellphone is likely a private number given out as needed, while his main business number is his landline. So where did Scar Akai get Kogoro’s number? The likely answer is from Kir’s cellphone, which Kogoro texted his bank routing number to after the Ding Dong Dash. Kir’s cellphone was left in Gin’s car when Kir changed clothes and we don’t know what happened to it after Kir was captured by the FBI. If Akai’s closest FBI friends don’t seem to know that Akai is still alive, then Bourbon needs to find other suspects. Kogoro was involved with Kir, is intelligent (according to the news), and was suspected of being involved with the FBI earlier although seemingly cleared by Akai’s intervention. So Bourbon starts looking for excuses to check on Kogoro. You could possibly add Conan to the equation as well if you consider Scar Akai observed Conan making a very good deduction and at least heard him using a voice changer during the Teito Bank heist. ∎ Amuro keeps a bug detector with him - only Organization members have been shown to do this. Amuro conveniently keeps a bug detector with him. The Black Org has been shown to keep those on hand (24-8/239), while normal detectives like Conan do not. ∎ Amuro's physical characteristics match those of Bourbon and Scar Akai. • Amuro Tohru is right-handed like scar Akai. • He is male as the codename Bourbon implies. The naming scheme is hard liquors for men and Kir used a male specific pronoun (kare) for him back in the red shirts case. • He is young enough to rival with Akai and be new to codename (29). • He has the right body size, height, and face shape to disguise as Scar Akai. Literary device arguments ∎ Amuro's name origin is a pun on the mortal enemy of Akai's name origin Amuro Tohru's name is a pun on Amuro Ray who is the mortal enemy/rival of Char Aznable. Furuya Tohru voiced Amuro. Akai is named after Char Aznable (The Red Comet) and his voice actor Shuuichi Ikeda. Bourbon hates Akai, so naming Bourbon after Amuro makes sense. As further proof, Amuro Tohru drives a white RX-7. Amuro Ray flew a white RX-78-2 Gundam. ∎ There was a Bourbon plot reminder in Amuro's introductory case. In chapter 793, one of the case suspects orders a bourbon on the rocks from Amuro. While the drink itself is unrelated to the case, nor has any relation to Amuro's identity, it may be a deliberate reminder to think about the Bourbon plot. Minor points - i.e. weak arguments • Amuro wears black. He changes into a black outfit when out of uniform (796). • Amuro mentions some Akai and Scar Akai themed clothing Amuro's hypothetical disguise suggestion in 795, a knit cap and long windbreaker, are articles of clothing Shuichi Akai and Scar Akai wear respectively. • Amuro's dark skin color may have been revealed when Scar Akai's duct tape was ripped off. If you look at the below picture, what we assumed may have been shadow may have been Scar Akai's real skin color that was revealed when the tape disrupted the mask/coloring (whatever Amuro used to change his skin color). Miscellaneous Amuro is not Akai • Amuro's handedness differs from Akai's. I think that Amuro is right handed, while Akai seems to be left-handed. • Conan does not recognize Amuro or treat him like they have met ever Assuming Conan helped with the plan to fake Akai's death (likely because of the cellphones) it is strange that Conan shows no recognition of Amuro if Amuro is Akai. Even if Akai had hidden his role from Conan, you would think something would have tipped off Conan by now. • Amuro tests Kogoro which the real Akai would not need to do because Akai knows Conan runs the show. If Amuro was Akai, then there would be no need to test Kogoro's intelligence because Akai knows about Conan's gadgets and intelligence already. Some of Amuro's decisions would also seem uncharacteristic for Akai. Not mentioning something to Ran or Kogoro about Conan disappearing at the same time as a murderer is one. Akai has had to directly or indirectly bail Conan out twice for getting in over his head (Vermouth and Org vs FBI), so trusting Conan to be safe wouldn't be expected. Another would be coming very close to having an innocent suspect accused, assuming Amuro threw the exploding car case on purpose. • Akai doesn't have a good motive for becoming Mouri's apprentice. The motive for becoming Mouri's apprentice is also unclear if Amuro is Akai. Couldn't he move in nearby or stick with working part time in Poirot without becoming an apprentice? Why not start working directly at the Poirot instead of going through another restaurant? Why leave Haibara out of the picture? • It would be really hard for Amuro to alter his skin color to Akai's and vice versa. Amuro/Akai would have to use a relatively long term, even-coloring, abuse-tolerating disguise that darkens his skin color. Tanning is one method, but it is difficult to get a tan with complete coverage. (in the folds of the ears, on the scalp.) How dark is Amuro's skin anyway? A skin stain to darken skin on the hands, face, and neck is possible, but difficult and would likely require a professional to apply which leaves a witness. A mask would work for the face and neck (who would make these masks though?), but waitering involves hand abuse and spilled liquids and there is no such thing as a latex mask for hands. Amuro is not a spy infiltrating the Black Organization If Amuro is a spy, it will be difficult to account for his actions so far, some of which have been dangerous without good reason. If Amuro is a spy he is highly unethical and/or works for someone no good. . . . . If Amuro is infiltrating as Bourbon, it is strange for a spy to be sidetracked by hating and/or hunting down Akai. I doubt something like that would be sanctioned by any intelligence agency Amuro might belong to, nor would they tolerate Amuro getting off course on it as it seems completely unnecessary to Amuro's infiltration mission. If the hating Akai thing is an act (it would have to be a good one) or Amuro was a spy for a less than reputable group, like a rival Organization, his behavior might be overlooked. . . . . In contrast to Kir only doing bad things she is forced to do, Amuro makes negative decisions without prompting. If Amuro intentionally threw his introductory case to test Mouri as described above in the direct evidence section, that's a strike against him. The suspect was halfway out the door with the critical clue and Amuro didn't stop him. Amuro also recklessly disregards Conan's safety in pursuit of a case connected to the murder at Mouri Detective Agency, also described above in the direct evidence section. . . . . If Amuro is Scar Akai, he probably isn't a double agent for a lawful agency because disguising as Scar Akai is threatening Hidemi's safety for no reason that appears to be relevant to continued infiltration. Even if Amuro didn't know about Hidemi, he deliberately endangered civilians by wandering around in crowded public places dressed as Akai whom the Black Org really wants to kill. In the red shirts case, Chianti and Korn were stationed so that they would fire into crowds because of Scar Akai's actions. This rules out pretty much all the intelligence agencies, assuming Amuro is not a half-rogue agent. . . . . So far Gosho hasn't hinted at any intelligence agencies or other organizations. In the Vermouth arc the FBI was both hinted at by Jodie ("'The Bureau' is short for the FBI") and then appeared directly with Akai. The Kir arc's CIA appeared in clues related to "The Company", the pun on NOC, and a CIA stock phrase Hidemi used. Nothing similar has happened in the Bourbon arc so far.
