Spambots are on the rise. If you see any, flag them to death please. And DON'T click their links - Viruses and other malware may be lurking.

I have been seeing an uptick of these. They say something not Conan specific like "I'm new to your forum." "Thanks for the info" "I'm interested in what you have to say" and then they give several spam links. Do NOT click on the links because they may lead to virus sites. If you see any of them, flag them as spammers so they can't post without review and tell me or one of the other mods about them.

Adding more major characters to Detective Conan *spoilers*
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Genghis's topic in Manga series
There will be more characters. In the Bourbon arc we had Andre Camel, the Nagano police trio, Okiya (sort of), scar Akai (assuming Bourbon), Miike Naeko, Phantom Lady, and Sera. In the minor league we have Rikumichi, Genta's Dad, and the London people. I'd expect similar numbers in later arcs including the boss arc which has yet to start. -
Unresolved plots in Detective Conan!
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in General
I wonder if the BO even has a headquarters? It makes a lot of sense to operate in a decentralized fashion so the BO don't keep too much compromising information in one place in case somewhere gets discovered, and so they can destroy a base without setting themselves back too much. I suppose you can call the location of the boss the headquarters, but what if nothing of importance is there besides the boss? -
Gin doesn't remember faces and doesn't seem to follow the news (red shirts post Teito bank heist). Basically Vodka makes up for Gin's weak points which means he is useful. Also keep in mind Vodka is Gin's secretary. Presumably that means he helps make sure Gin's orders get relayed out to the right parties and coordinates people, but how many secretaries do you know who can also successfully participate in missions, run a blackmail, and shoot a gun semi accurately? (Please note an anime botch: in the manga version of Shiho case, Vodka pretty accurately shoots at adult height where Conan is standing behind the door - in the anime Vodka looks like an idiot because the animators mistook the drawings of the muzzle flash for wall impacts)

This is more of what I think would be cool rather than what I think will happen. Gin I think would go down trying to kill someone, likely Shiho and maybe Shinichi because Gin's a jealous vengeful jerk. I'm thinking fiery explosive death. I marked it as "other" rather than suicide Gin's so hell bent on making someone dead that he doesn't care if he dies. Vermouth's death or not death would be awesome if she stole a permanent antidote from Shiho and takes it so she can revert to her normal age where she becomes decrepit and dies right away happy, or she escapes and continues living at the age she should be. I am not against a sacrificial death to save the protagonists though.

Kyuu, your view of the scope of prosecutable activities and the level of evidence needed for prosecution is very mistaken. Also, Shiho is not a legitimate or sanctioned research scientist and will not be treated as such; she will be treated as a developer for an organization of murderers - like how Conan treated her when they first met. Just a quick reminder, I am assuming a pre-escape Shiho here. While the defense may be able to appeal to technicalities as mitigating factors, that isn't going to stop the prosecution from using whatever it possibly can and using public horror at the Black Org's activities to ensure a guilty verdict. Furthermore, you have the Japanese justice system and Shiho's disposition to consider. The conviction rate is extremely high in Japan, and Shiho is definitely the type to confess to the police about her development of the poison because she feels guilty about it. That confession will be manipulated and used against her. Right, but I'm pointing out researchers can be tried for their research. While Shiho did not test APTX on people as far as we know (even though she was going to and there are papers to prove it), she was most likely the lead or one of the lead scientists for the poison development, which means she is a natural target for prosecution. Those included calculations for and refinement into dosages designed to be used on and lethal to humans. Even if she didn't do the act, she directly abetted it. You can't think about this like charges filed against a corporation which had some legitimate presence initially and also provides individual researchers some measure of plausible deniability and ability to escape the law. (I'm thinking IG Farben which made the gas for Nazi concentration camp gas chambers) The Black Organization is more like the Aum Shinrikyo cult (it perpetrated terrorist sarin gas attacks on subways in Japan) that engaged in many illegal activities and developed chemicals for murder. There is no legitimate guise the Black Organization operates under and it makes considerable money from assassination. Legal investigations and proceedings aren't going to be framed with the mindset that there was "legitimate" and criminal research mixed together. The investigation is going to be framed around the fact that the Black Organization is a bunch of horrific murderers who developed advanced chemicals to commit their crimes. Public horror at its deeds is only going increase the demand that all its operatives be punished, especially all the important ones - the ones with codenames. In the cult case, the maker of the sarin was sentenced to death although he did not actually participate in any of the actual murdering. Shiho might be able to come up with some better claims, but she doesn't have any plausible deniability. 1) She got papers for testing on people knowing that the drug in its current state kills 2) saw and may have even made the checklist of people murdered by it 3) participated in a house search to make sure Shinichi was dead and marked him as dead 4) had finished capsules of poison dosed for humans where she worked (she pocketed one - and legit drug developers don't make pills of incomplete or unworking products, they just have tubes of stuff.) 5) was head or nearly the head of the APTX project. Everyone who had a family member on that APTX list is going to be out for her blood as will the public. The state and the prosecution all want to see her punished to the maximum extent possible and they will do whatever kind deep investigation they can, and squeeze and spin any kind testimony out of anyone who has anything to say. They'll offer lower-rankers plea bargains to give testimony to nail her because she is higher up. Such a huge case like the Black Organization will also attract a lot of resources. You have to consider the Japanese criminal justice system, 99.7% conviction rate in court and the prosecutors can direct police investigation. Furthermore, Shiho will definitely confess if interrogated that she was responsible for developing the poison because she feels guilty about it and that's the kind of personality she has. Even if she claims that was not her intent, it wasn't like she just ignored the failed version and kept trying. She tested the lethal failure and refined it, and the Org used it for murder. The prosecution will use her confession to try to convince the judges that original intent doesn't matter, what came to be does, and Shiho is going to have a really hard time escaping that. There's no point in asking a hypothetical question "could Shiho be prosecuted based on what she did" if you assume no one has evidence to prosecute with. People who commit crimes under orders may still be prosecuted for those crimes. Aiming for complete innocence through a coercion defense would be extremely hard because Shiho had means to escape or seek help earlier. If she could go out and meet with her sister at a restaurant, why couldn't she find a way to contact the police? Bad analogy. This example isn't relevant because those labs were operating legitimately and had nothing to do with the people who stole the stuff. Thus, they are not abettors. All her test mice (but one) died, and then that drug was manufactured into pill form for assassination of humans. I don't see many researchers who make pills of human doses for failed drugs. That itself is incriminating because failed chemicals usually stay in test tubes.Anyone prosecuting Shiho isn't going to see the remorseful side of her that has been emphasized in DC. They are going to see a woman who manufactured death drugs for her assassin keepers and they are going to treat her like that. Additionally she is going to be facing a harsh justice system, judged either by a team of judges who have "seen it all", or by a mix of judges and jurors. This was all considering a pre-escape Shiho. Shiho post-escape would likely have the most serious of the charges dropped as part of a plea bargain for cooperating with the investigation because she had defected. Even then, I believe that she would still have to face some punishment for her crimes, and rightly so. It was with her cooperation and knowledge that people were being murdered with the poison she created and refined. She should answer to that.

http://www.bmj.com/content/313/7070/1413.full The Organization generated documents pertaining to the testing of APTX on Numabuchi Kiichiro. Presumably, there are also documents relating to how Shiho decided how much would be enough to kill a person and the creation of pills with a human lethal dose. Courts aren't stupid; if prosecutors can come up with any sort of even circumstantial evidence that the drug was going to be used on a human, they'll use it in trial. The existence of human lethal doses in capsules for people in an organization of assassins in more than enough proof for the court to consider. Add the paperwork in and you have a good case. I believe she would likely receive a plea bargain for being forced to develop the drug, defecting, and providing information, but legally I believe she was still in the wrong and if you were to consider a hypothetical scenario that she was arrested while still in the Organization before she boycotted, she would be prosecuted.

Detective Conan File 790-792: red paint vandalism
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Charala97's topic in Manga series
The Shigei Tokuko's car has what looks to be the shadow where a child seat was, which is probably the child from the car accident. The car accident was caused by a high school teacher and they settled out of court. Meiwa Takurou has parents who are high school teachers and one of them may have been the culprit or know the culprit. I think that there are two criminals here. Shigei Tokuko is the main culprit, and she has been targeting cars with obstructed rear windows. The high school teacher backed into her child because the teacher could not see the short child through an obstructed rear view window. Her modus operandi is to spray paint on the roof of the vehicle rather than the windows so the driver of the vandalized car can still drive safely. The most recent case in the underground garage was done by Meiwa Takurou. He is holding a grudge against Shigei Tokuko because the large out of court settlement devastated the high school teacher financially. It could be one of his parents or his parents' friends. Meiwa figured out Shigei is the one vandalizing cars because of her choice of targets (maybe he knew the other spoiler car driver and thus about the word "die"). Meiwa has decided to get back at Shigei by breaking into her car, using the spray paint she has in there on reserve, and vandalizing it. I don't know if he purposefully collided with Fukuchi or Fukuchi accidentally backed into Meiwa who was planning on doing something else with the car (like hitting a wall). Maybe Meiwa targeted the person with the stuffed animals in the back row because he thought it would be more like something Shigei would do. Meiwa missed the significance of writing on the roof, so he wrote on the windshield instead. -
Your conversation with The Seung Jin IP was brilliant. I cracked up for about 40 seconds at least.

Detective Conan File 790-792: red paint vandalism
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Charala97's topic in Manga series
I think I got this one. -
Real life has pretty much ruined any chance of having more than an hour for this case, and spoilers are apparently already out, but here are my basic thoughts anyway. I think Bannai Kumi did it because of her position as the best manipulator. She was one who had the tickets to the hot spring. Also the blood found at the scene is suspicious, and she has several cuts. That's really not enough though to implicate her. The alarm clock was set to go off and give the murderer and the others an excuse to barge into the room so that is easy to explain. The TV trick is more complicated. I think the setup went something along the lines of a clothespin was used to hold down the channel change button of the universal remote, so once the TV was on, it would zap by changing channels continuously. To prevent the rigged remote from being seen accidentally, the murderer hid it under the newspaper on the bed. It had the side effect of also causing the landlady's channels to change in the adjacent room. Sato said the TV can schedule a time for viewing, so this may means the TV is able to turn itself on, but the murderer needed the other TV remote so they could turn it off in front of Denkawa's door when everyone gathered outside it to yell at the guy and to establish an alibi. The murderer also scattered clothespins on the floor so that it wouldn't look weird for one clothespin to be lying around. When the murderer barged into the room, in the confusion, they replaced the other remote as well as the key, and took the clothespin off of the other remote and moved it to the floor. A bloody clothespin wasn't found though, so maybe the murderer kept it after seeing the blood? One problem is that the explanation has nothing to do with the fans. It also doesn't explain why Hyoudou Junji said he knocked the fan over, but there are clothespins underneath where the fan would have stood, so if the fan was upright to start with, it means the fan was sitting on clothespins which is pretty unstable. Was he mistaken? A more complicated explanation may involve using the fans to hold down the channel change button and holding the remote in place with the pins, then using a remote for the fans to dislodge the remote and the pins from outside by turning on the fans. I really don't know.
-
I just barely looked at the case and it's pretty obvious the universal remote was rigged mechanically to the fans somehow to change the channels nonstop. The signal went through the window and affected the landlady's TV as well. It stopped when she closed the curtains because the signal could no longer transmit strong enough. I don't have time to research how the setup would work tonight. I still don't know the culprit yet. Fake Kogoro and the landlady look alike. Conan asked about the piano keyboard for a reason, probably to prove something about the landlady.

I hope I have time to look at the file before spoilers for the resolution hits, much less solve it.

I prefer the newer style because it is more refined, the backgrounds and scenery look nicer, and they've done a bit towards correcting anime coloring errors (e.g. Haibara's auburn, Gin's silver), but the "rainbow tinted" hair colors on the characters bother me at times. Edit: I like it when the characters had slightly rounder faces and eyes though, but not like it was in the very beginning. I think I like the middle transition point.

My first inclination is what Spectra said, apologizing for the desecration of a body, but I suppose it could also be an apology to the rest of the FBI because they are going to think she killed Akai. She could also be apologizing to Akai in a way for blowing up a likeness of him.

Generally the wiki mostly requires screenshots of important scenes from episodes or the manga, pictures of official covers or official Conan stuff, graphic rips from official websites or the like. If you upload any of those, someone will find somewhere to put them. Generally don't upload anything "unofficial" like fanart. If you have questions about what to add, you could always upload images in a post here.

787-789 are likely going to be the only chapters to be tied up with the Kogoro case. (Note: this case is totally a fake Kogoro lookalike, fake Akai lookalike hint drop) Assuming Gosho will start on the 00, that leaves 790-799, which may break down into three three parters or a three parter and a six parter, and a singlet for 799 (a singlet has happened before two major showdown arcs now - 594 and 699). I think we are likely to get at least one more Sera case because we still need clues about what specifically tipped Sera off that Shinichi, Conan, and Haibara are important. We are also going to need a pretty heavy Ran's suspicion themed case in order to build the proper "Save Sera from Bourbon while keeping Ran from suspecting!" double header that has been hinted at for a while now. (Shiragami, Sports bar, Sera's questions) The Sera and suspicion may be combined into one case with the suspicion spilling over into the next case. I think Gosho needs to drop a reminder about Scar Akai before 800 hits because his last appearance was ~100 chaps before 800 which will equate to about 2.5 years of not appearing - then again after this long, maybe it's better to wait until the main plot. We still don't know why he hates Akai yet. Gosho has yet to drop any hints in that direction which is a bit aggravating. It would be nice if there was one scar Akai case before the main fall, but with Sera and suspicion there may not be room before 800 hits unless Gosho somehow decides that three plots in a row is a good thing. Perhaps we will have a minor Okiya appearance shoved in to clarify how he feels about Sera and just to remind the readers who everyone is before the big 00.

I pretty much agree with all of the above.I think Akai never told James what he was up to because of the exchange between James and Akai right before Akai went to meet Rena; however, James has been shown to be a decent reader of people. James is usually the one informing other characters about why the various FBI members act the way they do, like Akai becoming more closed off because of Akemi's death, and Jodie being sensitive about Akai's death because they were a pair. I think he knows Akai well enough to suspect his strange behavior at the time indicated that he had a plan and James hasn't lost all trust in Akai yet. Bonus points if James noticed Rikumichi's body was gone because someone should be keeping track of stuff like that, and as leader of the FBI action, James would be first to hear that the body went missing.

What is the connection between Gin and Sherry?
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Kiel95's topic in General
She said her age at the end of the soccer stadium hostage case - 18. (V20-1-last page) Of course you could assume she is lying. -
Gosho did give them his notes. See JustWantAnAccount's translation below. Q:長期連載で辛いと感じたことは? What felt tough from the long serialization? When I forget about the foreshadows I wrote a long time ago (laughs). It was a lot of work when I clarified Vermouth's foreshadows. I felt like I needed to include everything. I noted down all the foreshadows on a paper before and I handed it to the anime staff – I wish they'd return it (laughs). Maybe anokata's identity will be understood if the paper is seen?
