Hmmmm... No offense, but your antagonism towards Ran seems to be comprised mainly of reasons Shiho is better for Shinichi. While I'm glad you have an opinion and support your right to have that opinion, I don't think you are really looking at Ran as a person. You seem to be limiting your idea of her to whether or not you want her to end up with Shinichi.

Well I'm going to have to agree with the others on this one. Kogoro is actually quite intelligent and observant when he wants to be. Like gentleman thief said earlier, Kogoro just tends to be very lazy, and he latches on to the easiest explanations/suspects because he doesn't want to have to investigate any further. But on every occasion that he was shown to actually care about the case at hand, Kogoro proved himself to be a very skilled detective. I've begun to suspect that his permanent state of apathy regarding cases is related to depression from the departure of his wife. Kogoro is clearly still in love with her, so it must have hurt him a lot to have her leave. Also, I think it was mentioned in an episode/manga that he started becoming more worthless after Eri left. Depression is notorious for taking away ambition and sympathy.

Father (Age 45): I'd have to say my father is most like the character Ooba Satoru, the culprit from episodes 192-193 (the Desperate Revival arc), mostly because he thinks he's above the law, he thinks destroying people in revenge is justified, and he's really pompous and denies his crime to the very end, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. That part where he says to Shinichi that he has 100 answers prepared for his 100 questions really made me mad. Anyway. He wasn't even bothered in the least about killing someone, going so far as to commit the murder while kissing his girlfriend, and shamelessly exploited his girlfriend's feelings for him to use her as a witness. This is pretty much exactly how my dad is in all aspects of life, but especially regarding the crimes he has recently committed. Mother (Age 50): The lady who appears in the beginning of Magic File 4, who talks so much that she ends up holding Conan and Heiji up for 10 minutes. My mom is always talking about absolutely nothing, but ends up keeping you there for hours. And of course, she also loves telling complete strangers all about her family, like the lady in Magic File 4, even talking for hours about the most unimportant details, like what I decided to eat for breakfast the previous day. Oldest sister (Age 24): Sonoko. She is super stuck up and full of herself, and always talking endlessly about how intelligent she is, but she's a good sister when she needs to be (just like Sonoko is a good friend to Ran when she needs to be), and you can't help but love her despite how arrogant she is. Older sister (Age 21): The culprit from the case where the bandaged man attacked Ran at Sonoko's villa, Takahashi Ryouichi. This character struck me as being like my older sister because he acted completely nice to everyone while secretly plotting to kill Chikako-san, and later Ran, whose life was targeted only because he didn't care about her life as long as he could protect himself. I don't think my older sister is plotting to kill anyone (fingers crossed), but she is very two-faced, pretending to be very sweet and buddy buddy with me while secretly digging up any and all dirt on me and sending it in report form to my father so he can try to discredit my witness testimony against him in court. She will also sabotage anyone and everyone to further herself or protect herself from blame or harm. Younger sister (Age 18): Ayumi. Her most prized feature is her cuteness. She has boys with crushes on her that will do anything for her and follow her around everywhere. Their feelings are painfully obvious, but she chooses not to address them so that she can keep them chasing her and milk them for all they're worth. True story: one of the 10 million boys chasing my little sister asked if he could take her on an all-expenses-paid 2-week vacation to Hawaii, and she replied she would only go if he did something for her. Yeah, apparently paying for her vacation in Hawaii isn't enough. So anyway, he proceeded to buy her a laptop as a present, and then she agreed to go, albeit begrudgingly. But then she complained to me every day she was there that she had to spend all her time with only one boy, and that it was boring her. While she was in Hawaii, no less. Haha I'll never understand her. Younger brother (Age 16): Eisuke. He is completely clumsy, genki, hyper, and cutesy, but he is pretty normal and very observant underneath it all, and he will surprise you with how knowledgeable he is. Seriously, my little brother will spend hours gushing about cute little kitties and the like, but when he is serious, he is super serious. Also like Eisuke, my little brother underwent a huge surgery at a young age. He was born with a congenital heart defect, so he had to undergo open heart surgery. Then his sister gave a whole bunch of blood for him, only to realize after the fact that her blood was a different type than his!!! So kind of similar, in that Hidemi was a different blood type from Eisuke, but different in that my brother just got blood from another donor and didn't get his blood type completely changed. But he also has a scar down the middle of his chest just like Eisuke. As for myself (Age 19), it's kind of tough to come up with the right person, especially after coming up with negative characters for two of my family members. Now, if I were to assign myself a "good guy" character, it would look as if I think I'm better than them, or think too highly of myself, or that I sit and insult others from my castle on high. I don't think very highly of myself at all, and I was actually looking for a character for myself among the serial killers. But then that didn't really work, because no matter how worthless of a person I am, it's impossible to see myself killing anyone. My little brother suggested that I'm a lot like Shiho. It makes sense to me, because although I'm a good person, I'm always so pessimistic that I get everyone down, and I'm overly critical of everything to the point where I make everyone else too intimidated to say anything. We also both held esteemed research positions until insane family problems and every possible problem in the world decided to happen to us and caused us to give up on life. But no - sorry. After thinking about how we are both similar, I realized that it is very bad for me to compare myself to Shiho. I mean, she seems to be very popular among fans, and I don't want anyone to get the idea that I think I'm cool enough to be like their beloved character. So, I don't know. While I can find similarities to some characters, I'll just say for now that I'm not like any of them.

Aw, brainwashing doesn't sound very good... Nobody likes repeating himself, but can you tell me where I can find your listed reasons? Ran is one of my favorite female characters of the show, so I feel like I have a responsibility to defend her against the powers of brainwashing.

Omg I like that one too! Where Ran is singing along with "Secret of My Heart". Good stuff. Most of my favorite scenes are those with romance between Shinichi and Ran. They're just so unbelievably cute, and I wish they had more romantic scenes together... This made the "Desperate Revival" arc one of my favorites, and I also really liked the scene in episode 523, "What She Truly Wants to Ask". Ran was intent on telling Shinichi something, and Shinichi told her he had something to tell her too, and he deduced it was probably the same thing as Ran. Awwww they both wanna tell each other they love the other. Awwww so mushy, but I love it. I also like the episodes when Ran is suspecting Conan is Shinichi, but that may be along the same vein as enjoying their romantic scenes together. After all, Ran discovering Conan's identity would definitely further their relationship. Also Ran just pays more attention to Conan overall in those episodes. One scene I liked in particular was where Ran sends Shinichi an email and Conan's phone starts vibrating. Then Conan walks into the room and completely freaks out. His expressions were completely priceless. Some other scenes I love are the ones where Conan's 17-year-old libido complicates things. The scene where Ran recounts bathing Conan and he gets a nosebleed is completely hilarious. Another great scene was when Ran climbed into bed with Conan because she was scared from being attacked by the bandaged man. Conan was sitting there trying to figure out the case, and then he got so distracted from having Ran sleeping next to him that he decided that he might as well let the cops figure it out instead of him. A statement like that coming from Shinichi means he must have been pretty darn distracted... And who could forget when Sonoko sent him the picture of Ran's boobs when she was wearing a bikini. I thought it was great how he told Ran he'd delete it, and then immediately saved the picture to his phone. Then, to further the awkwardness of the situation, the picture was in fact needed for a murder mystery, and the kids discovered a picture of boobs on 7-year-old Conan's phone. LOL. As far as openings and endings go, they all contain some pretty awesome scenes. I'm in love with pretty much all of openings 27 and 25, and the part at the end of opening 28 where Ran and Conan are just looking at each other is quite nice. I also really like Ending 21, which is the ending that shows Ran and Shinichi as little kids just hanging out, and Heiji and Kazuha even run by. There are some great scenes from the movies too. I think the best one is probably from Movie 4, where Conan tells Ran he loves her. Of course she misinterprets it, but it was still an amazing scene.

Haha, this is so random. But now I'm curious... Why?
-
Yeah, I suddenly found the bigger Anokata thread after creating this one. Oh well... Sorry if the poll doesn't contain the characters you wanted to vote for. I could only put so many on there, so I just tried selecting the ones I felt were most likely to be Anokata. But I must be way off the mark if everyone is thinking it's someone not on the list... Haha, oh well...

It's kind of weird, but I find myself liking pretty much every character on the show. There are only four characters that bother me, out of the entire cast. Those four are Genta, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, and Dr. Agasa. First off, among the rest of the characters, these four seem to be the most lacking in emotion or depth of character. I guess it makes sense in the case of the kids, because they're kids. At that age, most haven't formed too strong of an identity yet. So I guess it makes sense, but I still don't like it. Then Dr. Agasa... I don't know. I hope I'm not making an enemy of any Agasa-supporters out there, but sometimes I feel like Agasa is just an emotionless plot device. I mean, he churns out these random convenient devices for Conan to use, and that's about it. The gadgets are a pretty big help to Conan, but the gadgets themselves bother me a bit, as they sometimes seem like a cop out. But yeah, I still think they're all amazing, and the show is amazing. The real kids and Dr. Agasa just bother me a bit.

I guess I've drunk Gin, Vodka, Tequila, and Bourbon... Not too big of a drinker, but I'm a pretty big fan of the flavored Vodkas. I don't know whose idea it was to make Vodka taste like apple or watermelon, but I take my hat off to you. I'm a bit sad that Vodka is my favorite, since the character Vodka is probably my least favorite Black Organization member. He's just so boring... Too bad I haven't tried some of the more delicious members, like Vermouth and Rye... Okay I'm sorry, I think I'm taking this topic in the wrong direction...
-
Well Chris Vineyard first showed up at least 3 years before our current story, so I'd assume that's when Vermouth would have taken the APTX 4869. And we all know that until very recently, Miyano Shiho had been continuing to develop/modify/test the drug. So as the drug was altered, obviously you'd need to continue observing its effects.

Oh no! Who have I left out? I wonder if I can add him after the fact... That would certainly be an interesting twist. He was pretending to be completely idiotic all along in order to hide his evil genius. Of course, we pretty much see Kogoro drinking at his desk or getting put to sleep 24/7, so I don't know if he'd have too much of a chance to get any evil mastermind-ing done...

Hello all! If Anokata, the boss of the Black Organization, was revealed to be one of the characters we already know, who do you think it would be? Select as many as you suspect. I included mostly the main adults, but I included the detective boys and Haibara too, mostly because I have heard people suspect them before, and I want to give you all as many options that you agree with as possible. Oh yeah, and I threw Okino Yoko in too. She isn't really one of the main adult characters, but she has been a character pretty much since the beginning, so I felt she belonged among our suspects. So, please vote and discuss! Try to rationalize your choices, no matter how ridiculous they are!

No no no that's what I was saying. I said it's not very plausible to assume Gin wouldn't know about something, because he seems to figure out just about everything. So I offered up a separate idea that Gin did know, and was intentionally using the APTX 4869. But like I said earlier, these ideas are more of wild speculation on the plot than anything else.
-
Yeah haha those are the complications. Maybe the effects of the APTX 4869 were kept a secret from the members of the organization, including Gin. Keeping it on a need-to-know basis would make sense, since a lot of people would be interested in extending their youth. So maybe Gin didn't know about it at all. But then I don't really like that explanation, because he was carrying the drug around for use. Those who do know about the drug would not allow members to walk around giving their main enemies potential shrinking drugs. That would just be irresponsible. I kind of want to believe that Shinichi's "poisoning" incident wasn't an accident. Yes okay, maybe I'm crazy... But it bugs me that Gin conducted an assassination in such an unprofessional manner when he is an evil genius in every other situation. He and Vodka didn't even stick around long enough to make sure Shinichi was dead. So maybe Gin was carrying around the APTX 4869 for the sole purpose of giving it to some unlucky guinea pig (or maybe Kudo Shinichi specifically...?). Vodka seems pretty low down on the chain of command, so I don't think he was in the know. I think the two of them were there to exchange the photos for the briefcase of money, but Gin also took advantage of the chance with Shinichi to accomplish the side mission. Haha the more I talk, the more stupid I think I sound. Not to mention this is off-topic... But I think maybe the Black Organization has something in mind for Shinichi, some sort of purpose he has yet to fulfill. Okay, enough of my wild crazy speculation.

I'm pretty sure her youth has something to do with APTX 4869. First off, I don't think Vermouth/Sharon has taken the drug multiple times, because given the way APTX 4869 works, multiple doses would probably be very dangerous. I think that rather than taking 10 years off one's life, the formula is different depending on the maturity of the individual. It could take off around 56% of someone's age, or it might be a much more complex equation not yet determined (which is more likely). Or maybe the version Vermouth took is different from Shinichi and Shiho. But anyway, we also have to wonder why Sharon took the APTX 4869. So here are two ideas that might work, but could also be completely wrong. I think Sharon took the APTX 4869 around 3 years before the current story, because that's when Chris Vineyard (her younger self) suddenly appeared in the world (at least if I remember correctly). If the effect of the drug was unpredictable when Shinichi was forced to take it, it was probably just as unpredictable, if not more so, when Sharon took it. Maybe Sharon messed up on a mission, so she was forced to become a test subject? Then, with the results as they were, the organization had to keep Sharon to further study the drug. In that case, the de-aging effects of the drug were probably confidential, even among the members of the organization, which is why Gin unwittingly gave the drug to Shinichi. Being forced to test the drug could also explain why Sharon wants her silver bullet to succeed in taking down the organization. But then how did she go from there to being the boss's favorite? And I feel like Gin would know about the drug, given how high up he is in the organization. So for another idea, maybe Vermouth was indeed the boss's favorite three years ago. In that case, maybe they were able to somehow anticipate the APTX 4869 would make Sharon more youthful. Maybe the individuals with some specific feature of their biology are affected favorably while others die. So Vermouth, as the boss's favorite, took the APTX 4869 as a bit of a present from him. But if that's true, then someone in the organization must have noticed that Shinichi would have been affected like Vermouth. Maybe not, since it could be some super obscure biological feature that they could only discover through directly testing Shinichi. But if that's true, then I don't think Gin would randomly be given a set of APTX 4869 pills with which to conduct assassinations, because he could be unwittingly shrinking any of their targets. Also, why would Sharon want her Silver Bullet to succeed? What could have fueled her grudge against the organization? I think either of these possibilities could work. There are a few unanswered questions that I highlighted in both ideas, but I don't think it would be too difficult to explain them away. I was thinking of including my explanations to further support the ideas, but they have little to do with Vermouth's youth and more to do with my wild and crazy speculations for the overall plot, so I decided to save them for another thread.

I think Ai/Shiho harbors some affection for Conan/Shinichi, but I think she is also clever enough to see that it is one-sided. Shinichi is pretty darn hung up on Ran, to the point where he is completely blind to anyone else's attention, including Shiho's. From my understanding of Shiho's character, I don't think she will ever make her feelings known. But I think that is for the best. Recall Shiho's tragic backstory. Her parents, both members of the Black Organization, are dead. From a young age, she was shipped off to a foreign land and groomed for a special position killing people. Her beloved sister, who was probably the only person she could confide in her entire life, was killed by the Black Organization. Shiho's life was steeped in tragedy. Then she attempted suicide by taking the APTX-4869 she had developed. But instead of dying, she shrank. If any of you have known someone who seriously attempted suicide, you know they do not overcome their depression and get better right away. The depression that was strong enough to make the individual want to die still exists. It takes lots of time and lots of help for any sort of positive change. And there's also the possibility that the person will try it again, which we did see when Shiho chose to remain on the bus with the bombs. When someone is going through all of this, the pursuit of romance is probably the worst thing for them. Romance comes with such a wide array of emotions that it really isn't good for someone in such a sensitive position. Even though Shiho may have a crush on Shinichi, I think it is wise that she is not pursuing this relationship (which, given the closeness of Shinichi and Ran, would probably end in heartbreak anyway). The best way for Shiho to recover is to take time to relax away from her regular stresses, spend time with her new found friends, and discover what makes her happy. I think Shiho's shrinking incident was actually a blessing. She got away from the Black Organization, she made some friends, and she is finally starting to live a normal life. Because Haibara was never really able to have a childhood, I can see her choosing to stay a child at the end while Shinichi chooses to grow up. I think this would be an ideal way for Shiho to reboot her life, and I think it's clear that this current lifestyle is already making her much happier. So there you have it. I might have gone off-topic a bit, but my main reason I disagree with Conan/Ai is because I don't see that scenario as being healthy for Shiho. Although everyone has their own opinion, I hope mine makes sense to you guys! <3

The theory that Akai Shuichi is Okiya Subaru is a very compelling one, and a lot of the points seem to match up. But if you take Subaru's introduction story into account, I think it pretty much ruins the idea. First off, Subaru was introduced right after Shuichi "died". Subaru was a tenant at an apartment complex that had burned down. Because Subaru was a suspect in an arson case, I think it would have been mentioned had he only just moved in (or spontaneously changed his appearance, if Shuichi had been living there all along). Subaru was determined innocent in the case because he was the "red man" in the landlord's son's journal, named for his tendency to water the flowers like a red fire truck. I think, in order for the kid to pick up on Subaru's behavior and then formulate an appropriate nickname, Subaru must have been living there for a while. Akai Shuichi had only just gone missing, so the possibility that he immediately became Okiya Subaru is slightly unlikely. Not impossible though! I am always prepared to be surprised. But I do think that Conan knows something we don't. Well, I'm sure he knows lots of things we don't. But his excuses for keeping Subaru in his home are pretty careless, completely contrary to his character. Conan can be rather impetuous when it comes to returning to his original body, but when it comes to dealing with the Black Organization, he has always been very careful. Conan has a reason for keeping Subaru in his home, and hopefully we'll find out what it is soon! I also hope Subaru starts playing a more prominent role in everything. Haha, I was the same way when Eisuke was introduced. I loved the new character so much that I wanted him to be following Conan around 24/7. Okay, maybe that would be a bit much. But you know what I mean.
