  4. We can also interprete things like this: after he heard about Akai's death, Subaru Okiya is coming to Japan to investigate it. He clearly knows some things about the Black Organization and the FBI, but he would not be part of either organization, just having some past with them. He sees someone looking like Akai appearing on the TV and tries to find if that is truly him. He sees Scar Akai and is sure he isn't the real Akai. He sees Jodie trying to rescue Scar Akai and stops her. He then sees Conan and explains to him Scar Akai looks like someone he knew but he isn't him, informing him of the situation. I have the following theory (even if it sounds completely crazy): Subaru Okiya is Toichi Kuroba in disguise. After rejecting the organization's offer, he arranged to fake his supposed murder by the organization to protect his family, and disappeared to America with help from the Kudo and the FBI. He had an secret affair with his apprentice Sharon Vineyard and they had a son, Chris Vineyard. After Toichi's supposed death, Chris grew up with Sharon until he got fed up of his mother's depressive and almost suicidal nature and left when he learned the part she played in his father's supposed death. He became Shuichi Akai. From then, Sharon also poses as her own daughter Chris, often switching between Sharon and Chris, her son's disappearance giving her the possibility to stop hiding in her disguise as an older woman. When Akai joined the Black Organization in a fake name, Vermouth would have known that he is her son but she didn't want him to be killed. On the other hand, Akai would hate his mother and even more her lover Gin. He also felt bas in his relationship with Jodie, being the son of the woman who killed her father, prompting hipm to break up with her. During all those years, Toichi Kuroba tried secretely to keep in touch with what happened to Shuichi. When he learned about his supposed death, he went to Japan under the appearance of a student to investigate and to make contact with Kudo's son, Shinichi / Conan, who knew Akai. In some way, he made Conan understand who he is and Conan let him use the house of his best rival as his own. Their last sentences seem to be of defiance at first, but they may be in fact of mutual agreement and complicity, both having a deep respect for each other and wanting to destroy the Black Organization for their own reasons. And the expression "Black is a color that covers things inside me that I don't want known, but I hate the color for the same reason as well." could be a reference to the "black feather" in "Kuroba" (according to the wiki), and not especially to the Black Organization. Well, I know it sounds completely crazy, but why not after all ?
  5. Mitsuru Adachi's new series: Asaoka Koko Yakyu-bu Nishi - Over Fence. The story is about a student which becomes the manager of a baseball club. I don't know if it's related to Adachi's previous masterpiece "Touch !" (one of the best sport manga ever written, if not the greatest).
  6. The latest Detective Conan Magic Files is now released. Not subbed yet, but I've seen the raw OVA on Youtube, so it shouldn't be too long messa think. It seems to be linked to movie 15 (but I don't know how) and the subject is about coffee and biscuits (well, the Magic Files OVAs were never particularly exciting, not like the normal OVAs). Unfortunately, I don't understand japanese. Main characters: Conan Edogawa, Ran Mouri, Heiji Hattori, Sonoko Suzuki and the Detective Boys. Secondary characters: Kogoro Mouri, Ai Haibara, Professor Asaga, Makoto Ryogoku, Ms. Kobayashi and Yoko-chan.
  7. The proper release is the DVD / Blu-Ray release. Some recording from theaters in low-quality maybe. Hard to find (if ever) and not the best way to discover a movie. And it will probably not have subtitles also. Also completely illegal of course (but it's illegal either way).

    Bourbon

Aoyama suggests too much Subaru to be Bourbon for it to be true (the bottle of Bourbon and all that). Nevertheless, the character knows clearly much more than he tells. As for Scar Akai, I think he couldn't be Bourbon either for the same reason: Gin suggests too strongly he is Bourbon for it too be true. And there is also some strange elements if Scar Akai is Bourbon: -The "I hate X so I take his face" has already been done by Aoyama in a major case, and I can't depict him repeating himself on the trick of another major case. -The "almost" complete deductions. If Scar Akai is Bourbon (the Holmes of the BO), then why Aoyama would make his deductions "almost" complete ? Given the context (the case was already solved when we learn about these deductions), it would have been much more shocking and threatening if his deductions would have perfectly matched Conan's. And there is also one very important element: Bourbon is a new member of the BO, but for some reason he hated Akai prior to that. But there is also another possibility that I never really considered but which could still exist: Bourbon and Scar Akai might be a trap set-up by Gin to determine for sure if Kir is not a mole, to ensure that she didn't fake Akai's death and that she didn't tip the FBI. I mean Bourbon would really be Scar Akai and having good detective reasoning, but he would in fact be under Gin's direct orders (or at least supposed to be, because he could turned out to be more independant that Gin envisioned, such explaining his attitude at the end of the Beika Store bombing case). Gin seems to imply they don't get along, but he might lie even to his other fellow BO members to make it more true. And, even in that case, Scar Akai could still really turn out to be Akai himself (he could have joined the BO again in a fake identity), Conan and him setting an even bigger trap to Gin.
  9. Another possibility which would be a great shock for the characters and the readers: Takagi. It's one of the most popular cops amoung the readers, a lot of stories involve him as Conan's most trusted ally within the police (to the point he wanted to ask him to search about Seven Children), and many of the main characters have a trust in him (especially the Detective Boys). He's also one of the most clever cops in Megure's unit, coming close to discover Conan's identity, and we still know very little about him. Honestly, I would be disgusted if Takagi turns out being Conan's nemesis because I truly like that character, but sometimes I thought there is more to this character than the eye can met (even if I didn't necessarily mean it as Takagi being a villain). He could be playing the shy and clumsy cop like Shinichi is playing the little boy.

    Bourbon

It could simply be that the Black Organization is in fact part of another organization, which could confuse her. For example, if what we know as the Black Organization is the "assassination unit" of the KGB (it's just an example), and if Subaru is a KGB agent of another unit who is hunting down the BO unit which could have turned renegade, the simple fact that he has the same "aura" (as a KGB agent) that the BO could explain why Haibara's senses are confused. But in fact, I begin to wonder if Bourbon is not Akai himself (who would have infiltrated the BO again in a fake identity). It's strange that he appears some time after Akai's supposed death.
  11. The trailer of a Pachinko Saint Seiya. It's just wonderful ! The anime seems to revive in front of my very eyes, with the wonderful chara-design of Shingo Araki and the astonishing rythme of the battles. The best Saint Seiya anime-material I have seen since Hades Sanctuary (with the exception of the amazing Lost Canvas adaptation of TMS) ! "Burn ! Burn my Cosmos ! PEGASUS RYUSEIKEN !" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gUe4DVZ_uc
  12. It's still better to know the end to the story, but just know that it's not really what we are meant to think. The readers were deceived by Ryukushi into thinking it was a detective story with supernatural elements, when it's the contrary: a fantastique story with detective elements.
  13. The Lost Canvas is now completed (2006-2011, 25 volumes, 223 chapters). From chapter 221, Teshirogi had to conclude her story, so the last three chapters were a rushed conclusion but, despite that and the limited number of pages, the conclusion of Lost Canvas is still pretty good (even though I was a little worried when I saw chapter 221). Now, the Lost Canvas saga will continue with Lost Canvas Gaiden, a new story about the 12 Gold Saints. Even though it would appear to be a prequel at first, there is maybe another possibility: a sequel to Lost Canvas about the rebuild of the Sanctuary and of the knighthood and the preparations to the next Holy War, leading from the end of Lost Canvas to the beginning of the Saint Seiya original manga. Either way, Shiori Teshirogi is certainly the best writer and drawer of the Saint Seiya saga (Lost Canvas is a masterpiece), so no doubt it will also be a great shonen manga.

    Bourbon

I have read the Red Shirts Case again and something strucks me: Subaru Okiya and Scar Akai might be the same person in this chapter. The fact is that both of them have shown great deductions ability. And there is also some strange elements which could be explain that way: -Subaru resolved partially the case. But Scar Akai was the one who mailed it to Kogoro. -Subaru saw the Black Organization members. Scar Akai didn't. Nonetheless, when he went outside, he just mocked them and Gin seemed to identify him as Bourbon. -Scar Akai disappeared in the crowd. The easiest way Scar Akai could escape Chianti was by returning inside the market (if he goes the opposite way of the crowd, he would have been easy to pinpoint). More interestingly, at the end, Subaru was aware of what Conan had done. But, in that case, how would Subaru and Scar Akai appeared in the same place at first ? One of the strangest thing of this story was Vermouth's late appearance at the scene, Aoyama's way to tell us she couldn't be Scar Akai. So, the main question is "Who is really Scar Akai ?". "There were showing some videos on the news, and someone I used to know happened to appear. Actually, I happened to see him on that floor. Unfortunately, it seems he wasn't who I thought he was, so I didn't talk to him. I've known his face for a very long time. There's no way I could be mistaken." This sentence implies that: -Scar Akai might have let himself be filmed "on purpose" (if he really wanted to be invisible, he would have been). Like he wanted to be shown by someone. -Scar Akai isn't who Subaru thought he was. So he isn't really either the real Akai or Bourbon, and still Gin seems to identify him as Bourbon (but not as Akai). In fact, I think "Scar Akai" might have been Vermouth in disguise (especially given her short and strange appearance on the scene). It could have be Vermouth's bait to try to identify Bourbon (which keeps his activities a secret even from the other members), and it would work given his hate of Akai and his belief he wasn't dead. Subaru would have come near the bank to confirm Akai's survival, only to discover it's not the real deal (Vermouth). And he would have been caught in the hostage case, resolving partially the case. Then, there would have been a change between identities, with Subaru becoming Scar Akai in order to mock the other BO members, while Vermouth stopped Jodie, before she changed back to her usual appearance and met Gin (with Subaru as Scar Akai being fully aware of what she was doing and giving her the little time she needed to return to being Vermouth again and meeting Gin). Then, "Scar Akai" would have disappeared in the crowd, only for Subaru to appear again in front of Conan. If this theory is right, Subaru Okiya might really be Bourbon trying to spy on Conan and Haibara, and all that Scar Akai's plot would be Aoyama's way to try to confuse the readers about who is who. PS: And Sherlock Holmes is also known to be a master of disguise, so maybe Subaru (who is compared to Holmes) could disguise himself without Vermouth's help.
  15. The new trailer of Martin Campbell's upcoming movie, the Green Lantern, with Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. I am a huge fan The Mask of Zorro, Goldeneye and Casino Royale (I didn't like The Legend of Zorro, though), and I'm eager to see Campbell's step in the comic-book universe. The FX are still unfinished but the movie looks already wonderful visually speaking. Now, I wait to see if the story follows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JydAY58Cvoo
  16. Following the end of Saint Seiya - The Lost Canvas, a new Saint Seiya manga (the fifth) has been announced. Called Saint Seiya - The Lost Canvas Gaiden, it will be a manga focused on the 12 legendary Gold Saints (who all die in Lost Canvas, except Libra Dohko and Aries Shion of course), so a prequel to The Lost Canvas. By the way, the conclusion of Lost Canvas isn't as bad as I feared from chapter 221 (which was a disaster). Chapter 222, even if it rushes things a little, is actually pretty good and very poetic. One last chapter to be published and Teshirogi's masterpiece is concluded (25 volumes in total).
  17. Yeah ! Quarter of Solace wins the contest hands down ! The best story by far ! I haven't seen it but I know it already (like we all knew what DBE would turn out to be) ! lol ! More seriously, Captured In Her Eyes is the best in my opinion: a real thriller, and so dark, so realistic (except the last part)... I hope the plot of the next movie will return to that kind of serious plot.
  18. Ah, ok ! The funny thing is that, when I watched the anime, I often thought "Bring Conan to the island ! He'll discover the truth faster than Battler !". But, strangely, the story of Ryukushi is not a story of someone who has to solve a mystery. It is a story about how far a person is able to go for discovering the truth, when he knows that knowing the truth will make him suffer and just ignoring it will allow him to live happier. I know the identity of the criminal and the truth behind BĂ©atrice (I've read spoilers) but I still don't understand how it could explain the whole murder story.
  19. Or maybe Sera is actually an opponent of the Black Organization herself and she was looking to meet Conan (the boy who confronts the BO) since the beginning.
  20. The strange thing is that, it's pretty clear someone who knows Conan very well told her about him (she knows he is a detective, she knows he is often near Kogoro Mouri and that it was the beginning of Sleeping Kogoro-san, and she knows about the professor even if she doesn't remember his name), and Conan thinks she is familiar to him. I don't think Akai would have told her about Conan, he isn't really the social type.
  21. The first seven chapters are already released in the US ? For chapter 8, it's not at all the kind of ending everyone was expecting. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing (it's... special), but many people were very disappointed by what it turned out to be.
  22. Have you read the manga or have you watched the anime series (which ends around volume 18), or both ? Great manga ! As a huge fan of City Hunter, I was really sad when Tsukasa Hojo decided to kill Kaori Makimura but, in the end, it's a whole different story (it's not really City Hunter 2) and, as you say, the father/daughter relationship is very well written. And I LOVE the Chameleon, the most hilarious and dangerous enemy the City Hunter has ever met. If you don't know that character yet, it's a killer who is a master of deguisement and who is also sexually crazy, regularly changing its sex and falling in love with Ryo as much as he wants to kill him. But, if he is completely crazy, he's also the one of the very few killers who actually surpasses Ryo in his methods, leading to one of the most memorable fights of the entire manga (where Ryo confronts...
  23. In my opinion, Sera is intended to be
  24. Hello everyone ! I'm working on a Detective Conan fan-fic right now that I'm planning to release parts after parts, but I need someone with a good comprehension of french to translate it into english (I'm glad you're able to understand me in normal discussions, but I don't think I'm able to write an entire story in a correct english). If someone is able and patient enough to do it, thanks ! I'll inform that person when I post the following parts. The link for the first part of my fic: http://www.cinefeeling.net/t2303-ma-fan-fic-detective-conan You're also welcome to make commentaries and critics.
