"What were you two talking about?" asked Chaos, staring at Nero's surprised and guarded expression, yawning. "I know how Tsukiko got here- I've been watching the screens downstairs and knew you would be fine, but I wanted to check up on you real quick. What are you hiding from me? And what the heck is with 'Nero the Ninja?' I didn't know you were capable of saying something so darn lame."
"It's not lame if it's true," muttered Nero childishly, too low for Chaos to hear. "I didn't know you were up yet, and I thought you'd be mad if I had a fight and you weren't there to beat someone up. I know you like fighting, and you haven't done it for a while."
Chaos rolled his eyes. Nero was a good liar, but today, his lies weren't up to the standard 'Oh, he's definitely telling the truth' level. "Nero, you can tell me anything. I'm your best friend, and I'm going to be here for you, always. Even once you have to go back and train with Ari and Kei, and even when I get sent away or-" Chaos shook his head, clearing his head of the thoughts that threatened to overwhelm him. "Anyways, you get the point. Tell the truth."
Nero laughed, snickering. "You get serious way too easily, Chaos. Honestly- I didn't think you'd come up here just to deliver a mushy speech like that. Not that it wasn't moving or anything," he said, smiling, "but so out of place! Oh, and Rod isn't dead. I think Tsukiko didn't realize that I used a sleeping dart instead of a bullet since it's so dark out. He's just knocked out. He'll be asleep for the next few hours. Wanna help me grab him?"
"Sure," replied Chaos, a small grin on his face. "Even if I do get serious too easily, I do mean what I say. You know that, don't you, Nero?"
"Yeah," whispered Nero, face suddenly shadowed. "I know." But I'm not going to tell a secret that'll hurt you....
