I dunno, graduate school is getting pretty popular nowadays. So it's more like school for 12 years, college for 4 more years, then you work until you pay off your debt, then you go back to college for another 4 years, then you work until you die. Cool.

Definitely find the motivation to watch it soon. Kenzi would agree, since she's the one who got me to watch it in the first place.

What Was the Last Song You Listened To?
Akazora replied to CarpetCrawler's topic in Music, Movies & TV
Waaaaaaahhhhhhh?? Why doesn't America have stations dedicated to their own video game OSTs? All the radio stations are pretty much the same at this point. -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LORuHWn-1l0 Grrrrr... why doesn't Kalafina ever allow full CD versions of their songs on YouTube? -

Awesome, glad I could help out!

What Was the Last Song You Listened To?
Akazora replied to CarpetCrawler's topic in Music, Movies & TV
Ah yeah, country isn't exactly my favorite genre either. I'm open to all songs, sort of, but I can only take about one country song a day, max. Songs about relationships are pretty annoying, and it doesn't help that that's what Taylor Swift almost exclusively sings about. That's why I stick to mah weeb songs, 'cause I have no idea what they're singing about. Not completely untrue though........... I agree, old Maroon 5 >>>>>>>> new Maroon 5. Backstreet Boy's "The Call" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dRdwWhFvns Gosh, the tune and atmosphere of this song is amazing.... -
Time of Eve (Eve no Jikan) Sword of the Stranger (Stranger: Mukou Hadan) 5 Centimeters per Second (Byousoku 5 Centimeter) ^Can't go wrong with any of these three right here. If none of these pique your interest, I have a few others I'd also recommend. So anyway, recently I watched...... Shaun of the Dead So glad I finished up the Cornetto trilogy. Hot Fuzz was certifiably amazing, and Shaun of the Dead is equally as good, if not better in certain aspects. A parody on zombie movies, the movie takes its time setting up the scene before anything life threatening even happens, but the first half is far from boring. It's exaggerated, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and drops little hints not relevant or important until they finally decide to cap off the "joke" at the end. It's a movie that needs to be watched at least twice, so all the little nuances in the dialogue and directing can be fully appreciated. If you're looking for more than just the standard Hollywood blockbuster, watch the entire Cornetto trilogy, starting with this movie right here, before moving on to Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Speaking of which... The World's End A very interesting way to cap off the trilogy, to say the least. While some of the stylistic and directional quirks that existed in the first two movies don't appear to be in this movie, the general formula is the same. Take a while to introduce the characters, keep it slow, and then bam hit 'em with the nitro halfway through and don't slow down. It's over the top, as expected, and the action scenes are definitely far better and more exciting than the previous two's. This movie also felt less like a parody and more like it had a message to teach. Granted, that doesn't mean Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz didn't have messages, but the main point of those movies was to parody zombie movies and American shoot-em-ups respectively. The World's End has a central theme that becomes apparent by the end, and I appreciate it for that. Don't think it's takes itself too seriously, because it's just as crazy and silly as you'd expect from Simon Pegg. The Killing Room I really wanted this to be a hidden gem. While it's hidden, for sure (be honest, you haven't heard of this movie before), it's far from what I'd call a gem. It has its pros, no doubt. The atmosphere is wonderfully done and the acting is great. The problems lies mainly in its story telling. There are a lot of plot holes and things that are done just to make things gritty and dark, with nothing of substance to back it up. By the end, you're left unsatisfied, and not just because it ends on a cliffhanger. Some of the plot points just felt convoluted for the sake of getting an emotional response out of the viewer, instead of an intellectual one. It was an interesting watch, since it's so underground and unheard of, but it didn't move me quite as much as I wanted it to. Redline My thoughts on this movie are already covered here. Lilo & Stitch I actually didn't really watch this one. It was playing during Lit class, but since I had already seen it years ago I took the time to do my calc homework instead of pay attention. I was listening to the movie though, and I guess it seemed like pretty standard Disney stuff. Fun and all, and good for the kids.

[SPOILER DISCUSSION] File 921-924 First met, first love.
Akazora replied to User 4869's topic in Manga series
Fair enough, though you'd think Gosho would be pro enough (he has been doing this for so many years after all) to trace out how much space Ran would have taken before drawing her completely in. As a mangaka, space management is extremely important when it comes to setting the scene and the mood and ensuring everything you want to get across is done so efficiently and elegantly, especially for something like DC where even small details in the background can be important. Understandably, it's obviously harder to gauge proportions for page-large images as opposed to panel-large ones, and Conan is usually the one featured on chapter covers as opposed to Ran. And the pose she was making was kind of a weird one, I'll admit. And is Gosho responsible for all the drawing in the chapters (save for the backgrounds of course, which are done by assistants)? Or does he sometimes have his assistants draw the actual characters? Dear diary, TIL that Chekhov draws (lots). -
Phew, as Baltha said, you're strong. I've watched entire series's four times over before, but that's only because I liked and was invested enough in an anime to care if I had missed something the first, second, or even third times. For bad anime, I can barely bring myself to finish it the first time I see it.

Working!! is one of those anime you can only watch an episode or two a day of, or else you're going to burn yourself out. Because of that, I decided to take the time and watch a bunch of movies, one of the them being Redline. Redline has superb animation, art, and style. Every frame is high enough quality to be made into a wallpaper, and the art style is so unique you'd have to try pretty hard to mistaken it for another anime's. The music aided in stylizing the movie, and overall it was a fast-paced adrenaline rush. However, it's also more style over substance, so don't expect to particularly enjoy the plot or the characters. The story isn't too engaging and the characters are pretty flat, but it's something you can easily turn your mind off for. All in all, average movie with two brownie points slapped on for its amazing animation.

That song's only good for parodies (Ace Attorney incoming). I didn't know people actually took it seriously beyond that point. Speaking of visual novels, 999's Morphogenetic Sorrow gets me every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbZuu66tWEs -

I couldn't help myself; this one panel in 921 was golden. I should probably make this face a reaction image. Speaking of poorly drawn art, did anyone else notice both Rans on the cover of 922 (the older one especially) looked extremely off model? Her legs are short and thin while her torso is wide and her head is huge. Sure sure, Gosho may still be recovering from his operation and all, but gosh it's still silly looking. Oh yeah, and the eyes and mouth bother me, but whatever. -
I was feeling kinda bored, so I've updated my profile to make it easier for people to stalk me. After all, how else are my enemies going to fite me irl?

The Disappearance of Conan Edogawa: The Worst Two Days in History
Akazora replied to Akazora's topic in Anime series
Never? Those are strong words my friend. If there's anything the SATs have taught me it's to avoid absolutes like the plague. I haven't watched the special so I guess I'm in no position to judge, but then again I also have no intention of doing so. -

Psht, she wasn't a nightmare for my team, which consisted pretty much of a single traded-over level 84 Infernape that spammed Fire Blast and Close Combat and five sacrificial lambs (oh geez, my 5th grade self played Pokemon so dumb, hahah). But true, you really don't know a good thing until it's gone. Nowadays I try my best to count my blessings whenever I'm feeling down, but sometimes I forget to when life really starts to suck. I guess high school wasn't too bad, but what if she enters a high school as bad as mine?! (God speed Kitty...)

Oh gosh, yes. Throwback Thursday is everyday. [boy banding intensifies] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulOb9gIGGd0 I've never liked her at all either, but it's interesting you think she's gotten better over the years. A lot fans would agree she's gotten gradually worse. She used to sing country-ish, but now she sings whatever the mainstream genre is, and while it was unique and cool how all her songs were about her real-life relationships, that gimmick's gotten old really fast as people realized she's found true love scores of time and gotten her heart broken so often nothing she says holds much validity anymore. -
Decided to pick back up Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle after a year of neglect. Why did I start this again? Friend recommendation? Uughh, not the biggest fan of anything in this manga save for CLAMP's art, but we'll see how this goes.

Noir Only watched this because my former English teacher/anime club advisor recommended it. I regrettably did not think it was nearly as amazing as she did. The main issue was the pacing. It was a 26 episode series that had a ton of filler and could have easily been shortened to 13 episodes. The animation isn't bad and is nearly impressive for the last two episodes, but there are so many stills that it's nothing all that commendable. The characters are stale, the plot is predictable, and the only redeeming factor is this one OST (and even then I only like it because it's been pounded in my head every single damn episode, I might have just gotten used to it). It has no blood, poorly done action sequences, no sense of real danger or threat to the main heroines, and it's overall a massive yawn-fest. Unless you're the type of person who likes to stare at the same painting for twenty minutes at a time, I wouldn't recommend this to you. 2/10; not a 1/10 because at least it doesn't have fanservice. Going to watch the first two seasons of Working next so I can watch the third season as it airs this summer. My on-hold list is on-hold until then.

Yo dude, I love animals and all, but screw the icky ones man, we could do without those. #ChordateMasterRace
-
*gasp* But maybe that was the joke?? Heh, I don't remember elementary schoolers being this negative when I younger. The summer breaks were still long, the ice cream was still cold, the homework was still easy, the sky was still clear, the Elite Four were still pushovers (they actually still are...), the music was still good, the lunches were still cheap, everyone was going to an Ivy League (HAH), the Christmases were still magical, and no one knew the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Kitty's got to let loose and live some, 'cause it's only getting harder from here. (maybe she's going through a stage???)

What Was the Last Song You Listened To?
Akazora replied to CarpetCrawler's topic in Music, Movies & TV
Eeeeeyyyyy that's right, Taylor Swift didn't used to be, ya know, so damn bad....... My sister used to listen to her older songs. She especially loved the Fearless album, I think. I didn't either, haha. I only remembered this song existed when I heard it while waiting in line for Green Lantern and I committed some of the lyrics to memory so I could look it up when I got home. Gosh, I didn't realize I had ever forgotten this song. It's great remembering things like this, but it also makes me wonder exactly how much of my past has already been forgotten, never to be remembered. Ah, so that movie's getting a sequel. I don't have any interest in the series, but the trailer looks neat and I guess fans of the franchise are happy about that.
