Sayomi relaxed in a booth at Starbucks Coffee. She was glad that her running was FINALLY over. She was with some real policemen who could probably do some investigating for her. That was a good thing. Things were going to be peaceful now Immense relief washed over her as she sipped her strawberries and creme frap.
"So, why did you end up with those guys anyway?" The officer asked. "And who are you?"
"I called him a pervert for trying to invite me to drink beer with him." Sayomi answered sheepishly. Her occasionally smartass attitude probably hadn't helped her in that situation. "And I'm not telling you my name until I know yours first."
"I'm Devin." Devin told her.
"Nice to meet you, Devin. I'm Sayomi." Sayomi shook hands with Devin and then they lapsed into awkward silence. Then she found a question to ask. "How long has all this craziness around here been going on?"
"A couple of days." Devin replied. "There are a few girls that are stirring up a bunch of trouble and causing crazy car explosions. A few of the guys took them to safety just a few minutes ago so they're fine, hopefully. But anyway, the real police have caught onto what's happening and we're going to try and save the police force."
"Do you really think you can do it?" Sayomi asked. "You can't exactly get back into the police station. All your resources are technically lost."
"We can try. These girls are pretty smart and can probably help us win this." Devin said confidently. "I'll try and take you to them... as long as they aren't captured again."
"Again?!" Sayomi exclaimed. "Are you saying that they were captured a few times?"
"Yes, and by the same person." Devin sighed. "This is getting out of hand but it'll be... really bad if we don't fix this problem."
Sayomi thought for a moment, then made up her mind. "Get me to these girls. I want to see what's going on."
"That's fine. But I think they're back on the run..." Devin explained.
She sighed. "It's all right. Let's just go find them."
That was easier said than done. As soon as Sayomi finished drinking her frap, she got up and threw the empty cup away. She and Devin were about to leave when suddenly, the glass window in the front shattered from the impact of a spray of bullets. Panic ensued in Starbucks, and Sayomi immediately dove for cover behind an overturned table. Devin hid behind another table and pulled a gun out of his back pocket. He was trying to get a clear shot at the shooter, but suddenly he went flying backwards with blood staining his shirt.
"NO!" Sayomi yelled, staring in horror as her new friend collapsed to the ground, never to get up again. She'd just lost any hope of ever finding those girls to get the answers she wanted about everything that was going on.
Devin had dropped his gun when he'd fallen, and it was only a few feet in front of her. Sayomi crawled out, hoping she'd stay under the cover of all the rising dust. Her hand groped around a bit before it closed over the metal of the gun. She picked it up and pocketed it, along with some other weapons and cash that Devin had had on him.
She escaped from Starbucks with nothing but her iPhone, weapons, and cash.
