  1. Me, too! Although, I tend to skip the non-plot related cases, unlike Chekhov. ^^; I've read the plot cases quite a few times.
  2. ^ Actually that makes a lot of sense, now. Fixed my post ^^ EDIT: Actually I'm going to have to contest the "Most people on earth wouldn't see the merit of such a stupid thing..." line. This is how I understand the Japanese: まあ安心しなさい・・・私の研究の目的はそんな夢のような薬じゃないわ・・・ Oh, don't worry . . . My research's objective isn't such a dream-like drug . . . この地球のほとんどの人間にはその価値を見出せない愚かしい代物・・・ [it's a] Foolish thing that Most people on this Earth couldn't see value in . . . So I don't think Ai meant to say that most people wouldn't value an elixir of immortality, rather that they wouldn't value the drug. It's a minor point that doesn't detract from your main point, but I want to clarify since this is rather important for DC's plot.
  3. I think that there's no conclusive evidence either way so far. Since people already discussed why Anokata would be male, I'm going to mention the reasons why I think Anokata could be female: Nanatsu no Ko describes a mother crow cawing about its lovely children Ai mentions in File 384 that the drug she and her parents were trying to develop would only benefit Japanese girls Aoyama loves the OMG HE'S A SHE / SHE'S A HE??!! plot (that moonlight sonata case, the Sera case, Kid disguising as Ran and Vermouth disguising as Araide, etc.) TL;DR I think Anokata could be either. Or maybe Anokata is a transexual?!
  4. Posts fixed Hi! I dug around the Internet to see if I could get a full list of interviews Gosho has ever given so far, and this is the fruit of my work. (Lol you can see that Gosho usually gives interviews around April, probably for hyping up the movies.) Of these, I have the raws for Conan Drill, Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files, and the Monkey Punch & Aoyama Gosho talk from Endless Youth & Co. I'm thinking about translating them, but I want to make sure they're not translated already - so, I'm wondering if these three interviews are translated already or not? Interviews from other people EDIT: Copy & pasting some older posts I've made:
  5. Oh hey, going through that 2chan blog on the BO, I found another interesting theory on who Anokata is - 烏丸蓮耶 (Karasuma Renya), that dude in File 229-302 (Gathered Detectives! Shinichi vs. Kaito Kid) who reportedly died mysteriously half a century ago. Karasu means crow, to boot. He seems like a pretty good candidate. EDIT: Another interesting dude is 大黒連太郎 (Oguro Rentaro, I think), whose name apparently appeared in that Mermaid case (File 281). 黒 means black, of course.
  6. Sure, I guess that Mouri's parents/relatives would fall into the names-mentioned-but-never-appeared category. Since Aoyama loves puns, the Mouri-arty thing would make sense - although, Mouri's first name is apparently named after Kogoro Akechi (the Holmes-like detective written by Ranpo Edogawa), but the first name applies only to Kogoro and not his relatives. Hmm, you're right, the BO is at least 50 years old and Atsushi, at least, should be around 54 now if he's alive, according to File 423 (the dude who was childhood friends with Atsushi is listed to be 54 years old). Even if the BO is exactly 50 years old, Atsushi would have been four years old when the org was founded. I guess we don't really know the age of Elena, though, hmm - but if the parents 'continued' the research, then someone else must have started the research - unless Elena was a clone of her mother and somehow gained memories of her mother or something, and maybe Ai's a clone of Elena! And the 'Miyano Shiho' who went to the Mermaid Island was actually Elena/Elena's mother! Hence why 'Miyano Shiho' went to the island famous for granting immortality, despite Ai not being the type to persue immortality! Also why Ai falls on the cautious side, since Anokata (who might be related to Ai) was characterized as 'overly cautious'! And Chris Vineyard is actually Sharon Vineyard's clone, who also gained Sharon's memories somehow! And maybe that's why Sharon/Chris is so young, despite Gin mentioning that Shinichi was the first human guinea pig for APTX4869! /word vomits own crack theory *Coughs* Anyway . . . I searched around for a confirmation of the second 'interview', and though I couldn't find primary source evidence for it, everybody talked about the line as if it was fact so I'm fairly certain that it's accurate. Anyone want to guess at the real name of the BO? Apparently it's tied to Anokata's name.
  7. Ha ha I appreciate the rep! I'm glad I decided to waste 15-30 minutes searching around the Internet for these blogs and translating them, right before my summer class started. Oh yeah, good point - it's more likely that Anokata is a character whose name has been mentioned but who hasn't actually appeared, isn't it? I vote for one of the Miyanos being Anokata, then.
  8. Wait wait wait, didn't Gosho say in some interview somewhere that the name of Anokata appeared in the series already? *Searches* Aha! From this website that summarizes theories and facts from 2chan board . . … In fact, the boss' name already appeared somewhere in the manga. Please see if you can find it. . . . Another blog backs claim this up 2005年青山剛昌とコナンファンの集いでの質問コーナーより From Q&A in a gathering between Aoyama Gosho and Conan fans in 2005 Q.黒の組織について? Q. On the Black Syndicate/Organization? A.正式名称はある。言うとボスの名前がバレちゃうので言えません。 A. A formal name exists. If mentioned, the boss' name will be exposed so I can't say. Erm, I'll see if I can get a confirmation on this somewhere, when I have time . . . 『名探偵コナン&金田一少年の事件簿』4号より From "Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files" 4th Issue Q.これに気付いているor知っているのは自分だけ!! Q. Only self noticed/knows about this!! 高山みなみ「「あのお方」が誰なのか…。キャストは誰も知らない。」 Takayama Minami: who "anokata" is . . . None of the [other] casts know. This seems to be some interview with Minami, who, as you know, voices Conan in Japanese. I'll see if I can get a confirmation on this, too, but I don't have much time right now, ha ha. EDIT: This Japanese website compiling info on Conan confirms that the Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files #4 did a special report on what the voice actors know that the general public don't. I guess I'll have to buy the issue to really see the full interview, hmm. /EDIT So if the second source is to be trusted, Anokata's name popped up before sometime in 2005 - and since the first source is reliable, definitely by January 13 2006. The 2chan blog says this means the name popped up somewhere before File 551, but you guys can check that for yourselves. Anyways, I think we can effectively rule out the "new character" possibility, yes? ^^
  9. Cool, Okiya knows that Conan and Ai know about the BO now! I love plot <3 We can rule out the father-son duo as the culprits, right? I personally doubt that Agasa would have talked extensively about Ai and her friends to them, since Agasa didn't like them and ran them out and such.
  10. *Gasp* Thanks for the tip, guys! EDIT: Heh, I'll be sure to stick to Japanese from now on.
  11. Erm, my Chinese is pretty elementary, so I was hoping someone else would have answered by now. Oh well, I think I understood these parts right, so here I go:
  12. Plot! Plot! Plot! *Hops around like a crazy bunny* Keep this going, Aoyama!
  13. Anokata, by a long shot. S/he controls an entire organization, consisting of influential politicians (ex. that dude Pisco killed) and businessmen (ex. Pisco was the CEO or something of a car company, IIRC), along with innovative scientists (ex. Sherry) and programmers (ex. that CG programmer dude), and its operatives routinely gain insane sums of money by blackmailing powerful people who aren't part of the organization (ex. that dude Gin got money from at Tropical Island) or by trading illicit information to powerful people. Clearly Anokata is the Moriarty of DC!
  14. Apparently there're a lot of people in Pakistan angry over bin Laden's death (source), and some people consider him a martyr for . . . for fighting the man, I guess. I think there'll be some more suicide bombers/terrorist attacks in the near future. At the same time, right now Obama gained a lot of momentum for having bin Laden dead (and if his speech about how the mission specifically targeted bin Laden and took care to avoid civilian deaths, good for him), so he might be able to pull the military out of Iraq and Afghanistan now, and maybe really close down Guantanamo for good. Get rid of the stupid Patriot Act while we're at it. Since the civilian casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq drive all those religious extremists into terrorism, if the soldiers pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and Guantanamo is closed down, we might actually see a reduction in terrorism in the future - that and if Obama/some future US president publicly apologizes for all the civilian casualties. Oh and tell the truth about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, all the media spin doesn't serve to do anything but to keep US citizens ignorant, since Iraqi and Afghanistani people know what's going on. That's my two cents. ^^;
  15. I loved that one line about how you don't need a reason to save people.
  16. Yay! Just read File 774 . . . I have to say, I was - not really surprised, but . . . miffed, I guess - that Isao bought so easily into the "MIKU COMMITTED SUICIDE" story. He was observant enough to notice the broken glasses on the balcony and intelligent enough deduce that someone was hiding in the room and escaped through the balcony; I thought that he would see the inconsistency and point out how the SNS postings show that Miku wasn't contemplating suicide. But then, Isao is hot-headed and Gosho needs his characters alive, hmm. The 'tougher' thing is definitely interesting, I'm excited how that will turn out. :smile:
  17. The exact words Aoyama used in the full interview was that: So he hasn't really decided anything. ^^;
  18. For me, I've followed this series for 14~15 years, so I'm ready for it to end, tbh. ^^; That's not to say that I think that the series should end this year - if that happened some plot would likely remain unresolved - but I do wish that Aoyama would stop writing so much filler. ^^;
  19. Ha ha no problem! Glad to be of help.

  20. Sure. You know what the black arrow means; the grey arrow means friendship; and the dotted arrow means other, with the relationship spelled out in the oval.

    The arrow from Ayumi to Ai = "rival in romance?"

    Erm, I see that there's a bigger chart with more characters, with slightly different arrows - do you want me to translate that, too?

    Eisuke

    @Ainaji Lol YES He was smart enough to figure out Conan's identity, yes? He's also brave enough to sneak into a hospital to investigate about his sister. Yet, he doesn't have the ego that Shinichi does, and he's really sweet personality-wise. A nice guy through and through.
  22. Hi! Do you mean this page?

    http://hiphotos.baidu.com/%E9%E4%C0%E1%CE%B4%CA%B4/pic/item/b0dc23b4455967ac30add1d2.jpg

    Here, the arrow from Conan to Ai says "ally". As in, Conan considers Ai to be an ally, but they don't know how Ai feels toward Conan (hence the "???"). Is that what you wanted me to translate?

  23. As promised, I looked around Japanese blogs to see any news on the Aoyama interview with Mystery Magazine. The big scoop, confirmed by the press release and two bloggers, is that
  24. @Wakarimashita Wow, I never knew! Where'd you get the info? @dreznovk I updated inside the spoiler box in the first post, but I guess no one saw. ^^; Moved outside of the spoiler box, now. @Southpaw Yes, exactly, I've read Bakuman, too, so 'name' was the first word that came to my brain - but 'pre-manuscript' is a much better word. Let me update the translation . . .
