I think they don't get too sad, because the tragic things usually happen to the people that are just introduced into the show... If we really knew the person, we'd probably feel a little more.. -

What happened in OVA 9? -
I think it was somewhere around the late 500's.. But Ran was (I think) ironing a tie for Mouri, and Conan was sitting next to her. He had asked her where Mouri was, and she said (I think something about haircuts?) And I think she sighed? And Conan asked what was wrong. And she said she was thinking about getting/making a tie for Shinichi. So Conan turned red and thought about that fantasy. Haha I hope someone finds it.. Thanks

For me, I was shocked about most of the things too. The one that made me feel the worst though, was Episode 582: The Night the Zombie Died I know it's a filler, but it just made me feel sad. The lady killed her boyfriend, because he said things like "I'll no longer be her boyfriend." "I'm going to quit this job" And all that. But in the end, what he meant by all that was that he wanted to marry her. I thought it was pretty dumb for the lady to kill him without knowing the truth. I almost cried when Akai died. But he's an FBI agent that shot Gin from 700 yards away. There's no way he's dead. -
I'm so glad that there's a thread like this!! Anybody know the episode where Shinichi has a day dream about Ran putting a tie on him? I think he was in his school uniform, and there was a pinkish aura around them. Thanks
