Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 At least I understand this. Can't understand some of the logic in dc sometimes...
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Shall we have a difficult one to try now? There are 10 thieves who have obtained 100 gold in their heist. They are to decide on how they are to split their gold. These ten thieves are lined up according to their rank, and the highest rank thief would decide on a plan to split these gold. If at least 50% of the thieves agree to the plan, it would be carried out. If not, the thief would be killed and the next in rank would suggest a plan. Suppose that each thief wants to get as much gold as they are able to get, wants to see another thief being killed, and each thief is logical and knows the situation well and that they know the rest of the thieves are also the same,... EDIT: Of course, they value their lives very much more than gold... what should the first thief suggest, such that he will get as much gold as he will get and that the rest of the thieves would support his plan? Hint: Start thinking if there are only 2 thieves. What will happen? When there are two rhievess left, the last thieves will be left with nothing. Let's illustrate by using numbers. The smaller the number, the lower the ranking: Thief 1 and thief two is left. So thief 2 will suggest that he get all the 100 gold. Whether or not thief 1 agrees makes no difference to the outcome since thief 2 will surely agree, making it 50% agree. So thief 1 will never allow that to happen. In this case, any amount of gold will prompt thief 1 to agree to the plan. Thief 3 will use this to his advantage. So... Continue from here... Repost question just in case forgotten EDIT: Murder is absolutely forbidden unless following the rules (the highest ranking thief can be killed IF and ONLY IF the plan he suggests has lesser than 50% agree.) Lia. 45 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 Thief 3 will murder the two higher ranking thieves.
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 thief 3 is higer ranking than thief 1 and 2...
Lia. 45 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 EDIT: OK. But thief 3 will kill them both anyways
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 o.o then that defeats the purpose of the riddle. The highest ranking thief should have just killed all the rest of the thieves and taken 100 gold himself.
Lia. 45 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 And won't that be the answer to the riddle? I'm confused
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 There are a few points: They have to decide on a way to split the gold. The highest ranking thief will decide on a plan to split the *edited* 100 *edited* gold . If his plan is supported by at least 50% of the thieves, it will be carried out. If not, he will be killed and the next-in-rank thief will suggest another plan. There are in total of 10 thieves including the highest rank thief. All thieves are ranked. No thief is of the same rank as another thief. All thieves are greedy - they want as much gold as they can get, and they know the rest of the thieves are greedy as well. All thieves wish to see the highest ranking thieve's plan fail and killed. However, all thieves are afraid of death. They will suggest something so that they will be supported and not die. All thieves are logical and smart. They know the rest of the thieves are also as logical and smart. NO MURDER is allowed unless the plan is rejected. yep yep HINTS: Start from the situation where all the plans made by the highest ranking thief has been rejected and (therefore)killed and there is only two thieves remaining. We know that if at least 50% agrees with the plan, it will be carried out. Therefore if at least one of the two thieves agree with the plan, it will be carried out. However, the plan will be suggested by the higher ranking thief - which is thief 2. And thief 2 is greedy. He will suggest that he himself get all the 100 gold. That is because he knows, as long as he himself agree with the plan, it will be carried out. He WILL DEFINITELY get ALL the gold. Thief 1 (lowest ranking thief) knows this as well. He will not get ANY gold if he lets the situation proceed to this stage. Therefore he will not allow thief 2 to suggest a plan. Whatever thief 3(higher rank than thief 2) suggests, as long as thief 1 gets something (anything at all), he will agree to the plan. So what should thief 3 suggest??? Misaki-chan 164 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 Thief 3 should suggest, "I will get 98 pieces of gold while the two of you get 1 piece." Is that right?
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 Thief 3 should suggest, "I will get 98 pieces of gold while the two of you get 1 piece." Is that right? That's close!!!! You're on the right track!!! Remember, all thieves want to earn as much as possible. He will suggest this: thief 3 gets 99 and thief 1 gets 1! So thief 2 will get nothing at all!!! So: 99 0 1 Would thief 2 accept this out come???
Lia. 45 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 No, thief 2 will not accept it
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 No, thief 2 will not accept it Yep! Thief 2 knows that thief 1 will surely accept if thief 3 is allowed to make the plan. So he will not allow thief 3 to make the plan because in this case he will get NOTHING at all. He will not allow this to happen- he will not allow thief 3 to plan. Therefore as long as thief 4 gives him anything at all, he will accept. Get the idea??? So what should thief 4 suggest???
Lia. 45 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Thief 4 can suggest that he gets 95 gold, Thief 3 gets 3, Thief 2 gets 2 and Thief 1 gets
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Why will he bribe everyone? He will need only 1 more person to join him and that will be thief 2 because he will lose the most if thief 4's plan is rejected. So won't thief 4 suggest that he gets 99 and thief 2 gets 1? 99 0 1
Misaki-chan 164 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Well, I guess....
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Haha... so going from that, When thief 3 suggests: 99 0 1 When thief 4 suggests: 99 0 1 0 When thief 5 suggest, he now needs 2 people to support him. Seeing the above on how thief 4 will suggest, thief 3 and 1 will never let thief 4 suggest. So, as long as thief 5 gives them something, they will agree...: 98 0 1 0 1. Therefore, thief 6: 98 0 1 0 1 0. So ... what will thief 10 suggest???
Misaki-chan 164 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Thief 10: 96 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 0

Moonlight Magician 98 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Thief 10 will suggest 96 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Thief 10 will suggest 96 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 Thats correct! Solution: when there are only two thieves left- thief 1 and thief 2. Thief 2 will suggest 100 0. Thief 1 will not want this outcome, so as long as thief 3 gives him anything at all he will accept. Thief 3 will suggest 99 0 1. Thief 1 and 3 accepts. So there will be more than 50% agree. Thief 2 will not want this outcome, so he will allow thief 4 to succeed if he was given anything at all. Thief 4 will suggest 99 0 1 0. Thief 1 and 3 will receive nothing. They will not let thief 4 decide on the plan, so they will support thief 5 if he gave them anything at all. Thief 5 will need two people on his side. Since he needs 3 people to agree including himself. So he needs 2 others. He will then cooperate with thief 1 and 3 since he knows thief 4 will give them nothing, and so they will gladly accept any amount that he is going to offer. In this case, thief 2 and 4 will not receive anything Thief 5: 98 0 1 0 1 Thus, thief 6: 98 0 1 0 1 0 thief 7: 97 0 1 0 1 0 1 thief 8: 97 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 thief 9: 96 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 thief10: 96 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0. Got it?? Wanna digest the information again?
Kaitou Kid Legendary Thief 197 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Lets try another riddle hehehehe.... Oh,, a little warning... this riddle might be a little disturbing. Those who cannot take gross stuff please refrain from reading. kekkeke... One day, a headless corpse was found by some people near an abandoned house. *Yes... headless corpse. If you want to continue reading... pls do so...* *You sure you want to continue???* *ok lets continue* It was discovered by some students who went to test their courage. Before approaching the abandoned house, they heard something strange and when they went near, they found a panicking guy hurrying away from the abandoned house and got away on a truck. ... *WARNING: If you cannot take gross-ness, please refrain from reading* When they went to check out what happened at the abandoned house, they found a female headless corpse outside the abandoned house. Its head is missing and her bust was torn into two. Her intestines were dug out and splattered all over the place. There were signs of scratches on her body, arms and legs. Looking at the overwhelming scene, the police believed that it was committed by the same culprit in the recent series of murders in the area. According to profiling, they believe that the culprit is a pervertic person who has very extraordinary interests in the human body. According to these traits, 5 people are found: 1: 42 years old cook who is very particular about cleanliness. He believes he is a cook with the best taste in cuisine. He wrote a book saying that the world's most perfect cuisine must come from 30 different parts of the human body together with the full recipe of the 30 parts and how it is prepared. 2: 25 years old percussionist who is maniac in percussion. He too, wrote a book: The world's best percussion instruments come from human bones, also explaining how each part of the bone works for the instrument. 3: 33 years old Abstract sculptor. He gets overly excited while discussing about head sculpting. He wrote a book and in it, the detailed analysis of the composition in a human's head. 4: 28 years old fashion designer. He believes that the world's best materials for a costume comes from perfect human skin. He even had a detailed design for the making of the costume. 5: 31 years old novelist/storywriter who loves writing gross and perverted stories. Recently, he has been writing a new fiction called "Sleeping together with intestines". His ideal in writing the stories is, to have great stories, they must first experience what it is really like. Assuming that the killer is definitely in these 5 people, and that there is ONLY 1 killer, can you guess who is the killer? Why? AND What is his motive?
