I recently got too curious - apparently wanted to find out what Ecchi was, and ended up reading a manga that I shouldn't have read in the first place. They are quite rushed. I don't think he has any assistants apart from his wife sometimes and he's apologised to readers for the art a few times. In Naruto Shippuden they lose most of the humour and replace the cool missions with Naruto whining about Sasuke and over powered enemies showing up and killing a bunch of people.
