Chekhov MacGuffin 1089 Report post Posted May 23, 2011 In 425 DJ was "Diamond no Jack" or Jack of Diamonds in English. In card reading/fortune telling the different playing card suits correspond to elements. Diamonds correspond to earth. Domon had the character for earth in his name if I remember correctly. The last riddle "Bein B" was really supposed to be "Vane B". The pronunciation difference is due to a lack of correspondence between the sounds of Japanese and English; certain sounds get changed between the two because they don't exist/get treated differently. The vane is a reference to the vane of an arrow, which is the feathers or fletching. Toriya means bird dealer.
