Apparently, the Japanese custom is to take off your slippers going into a bathroom and put on plastic slippers. Well while the Mistress was in the bathroom, she switched the slippers with the ones she had on. without bringing suspicion to herself.

Hmm . . . So I take it that none of you guys think that the whole "OMG you can switch your slippers in the bathroom!" thing is significant?

I don't think any slipper switching happened because I think the wife dumped poison on the door handle to try to kill the son which explains the creepy laughter and general unconcern. The only reason why there would be switching in my explanation is if the wife asked the secretary to kill the son with poison and then the sec betrayed the wife in order to implicate her. I didn't see any signs of collusion, no glances or strange things said, so I'm thinking they didn't collaborate.

Apparently, the Japanese custom is to take off your slippers going into a bathroom and put on plastic slippers.

That's what I've heard. Along the same lines, toilets and showers may be in different rooms because of the human waste dirtiness taboo.

786 Spoilers - I have to say for this one, IF YOU WANT TO READ THE MANGA TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED THEN DO NOT READ. This spoiler is rather spoiler-y.

The title of the next case is 「親子の間の錯視」 (The optical illusion between parent and child)

Although the case was solved, Kazuha's thoughts don't reach . . . next series from Vol. 40. (File 786 is on Vol. 36-37).

From 2chan Shonen Sunday Spoiler thread - will update as more spoilers come in.

EDIT:

Gathered everyone to explain the fake on the door knob (Ikurou washed his hands, slippers were switched in the bathroom)

Made Ikurou take baumkuchen using Jastrow illusion, explains illusion

Mouri [Kogoro]: "Any one of the four can use this method" -> move to the library

Show Mouri the screen the wife was looking at (Sake for the Young) -> Conan: Can you write the character for "waka" in "Wakamatsu"?

Mouri can't write -> Heiji: "Since you watched so much, your gestaltism collapsed!"

Explains collapse of gestaltism -> Since the wife wasn't used to using the computer, [she] didn't open the files

The reason why the dictionary was open on "wa" was because [she] touched poison there and put it in [her] mouth (The wife was a habit of licking her thumb when she turns the page)

Heiji: "The person who showed the wife the character for 'waka' many times AND who made her sign is the secretary, Satake-san!"

Conan: "Knew where the kitchen was (tea), could also take away the soy sauce" [Ahhh so Satake tried to frame the maid, hmm?]

Heiji: "Since she's the secretary, she knew when we and the employees would come . . . if she knew the number of guests she could easily divide [the baumkuchen] into eight pieces."

Heiji: "As for the on-the-spot inspection, it misleads you to buy the poison-on-the-doorknob fake! You also arranged for me to come to this house!"

Satake: "All circumstantial evidence . . . no physical evidence"

Conan sees Satake's watch: "It's shining in a few places"

Heiji: "That's the evidence! The poison probably got on the left wrist when applying the potassium cyanide on the dictionary . . . Then, when [you] washed your hands, the potassium cyanide that got between the bronze watch got wet and reacted, producing rust . . . "

[Conan & Heiji]: "[We, I] realized this when [you] looked at the watch saying the last train left, then you held the PET bottle with the same hand that took the cap (only the right hand)"

Satake: "Ironic . . . the watch I got from father became the evidence, huh? . . . I'm the daughter from my father's first marriage

I first joined to crush the company owned by the man who abandoned my mother . . . I understood that [he] is hardworking and that he's bad at expressing his love,

Mummy hunter becomes the mummy . . . On top of that, I was found out to be the daughter from the beginning . . . In truth, father meant to reveal that I'm his daughter in the villa at Karuizawa

But he was killed by Ikurou, and the vice president hid the evidence . . . since, even though the vice president looked at the contents of the sealed letter, she didn't say anything . . .

Maybe she entrusted it to me on purpose, to make me kill Ikurou-san . . .

Heiji turns around his cap's brim -> Ran: "This is your chance!!"

Kazuha: "M-maybe I should give up for today? Heiji's tired from using his head, after all . . . "

Ran carries Conan and leaves

Heiji: "What's up?" Kazuha: "They took care to leave us alone, by ourselves . . .

Maybe you already heard from Kudo-kun, but it seems that Kudo-kun . . . confessed to Ran-chan in London . . . "

Heiji: "Huh?" Kazuha: "T-that's not what's making me say this, b-but . . ." Heiji: ". . ."

Kazuha: "In truth, I, too, . . . from before, I . . . (closes eyes) I really, really like you!"

Kazuha: "Ugh, he's not here! Heiji?!"

(Red-faced) Takagi: "Ha-Hattori-kun left in the middle of the conversation" Kazuha: "W-where in the conversation?!" Takagi: "I-in truth, around there . . ."

Heiji smiles widely: "Hei, Kudoo<3 Don't you have something to say to your best friend?"

Conan: "No." Ran: "You really get along, don't you?" Kazuha: "I'm jealous of Conan!"

So Serika's gestaltism did collapse! For people who are saying, "How in the world do you forget hot to write your own name?", I would like to defend Gosho and say that Wakamatsu is Serika's married name, not her maiden name. Also, I'm translating an English fancomic into Japanese right now, and I have to say my gestaltism collapsed quite a few times, and I had to look up how to write even really simple characters sometimes.

/EDIT

So apparently Gosho will not be doing Conan in Shonen Sunday Vol 38 and 39, and will start a new series from Vol 40.

Thanks for the translation justwantanaccount

Shame about the thing with the confession...

Though did Hattori really call Conan "Kudou" with Ran and Kazuha around or am I misunderstanding it...?

What a surprise. Gosho bait and switched us yet again. Oh ho ho ho. Some certain delusional folks I've been arguing with about this on Facebook are gonna be pleased as punch once they figure out that they've been baited yet again~

Whew... What a relief.

I thought I was doomed to HeiWa of epic proportions. Thank the gods, I've been spared the torture. *clasps hands together* But honestly, I am extremely happy about it. I dislike Kazuha, and find it hilarious that Heiji walked away when she was talking to him, to go talk with his beloved, beloved Kudo instead. Isn't his unrequited love so painfully obvious? XD Poor Heiji... He'll have heart broken at this rate. (though I'm not complaining... There's ShinRan, and Kazuha just kind of got stood up. What more could I have asked for?) *fist pump* *does happy dance around the room* Wow... It really was a bad idea to have coffee ice cream before bed. I'm still hyper and it's been five hours since ive had it. O.o I wonder what'll come after this though! Gosho usually only collects info for big cases, right? Right?! *yells self hoarse*

The scans are out at DCTP! Fast and awesome, as always <3

I'm surprised that Satake was the one who tried to make Heiji see the optical illusion at Karuizawa and who blamed Ikurou's murder on the wife. I thought that there would be multiple culprits acting independently like Chekhov predicted, but in the end there was really one culprit, aside from the husband's murder. I guess that this is part of that whole Occam's razor thing-a-ma-bob.

Optical illusions... I wonder how hard it was to translate those German names... I loved the ending! So awesome!

While Kazuha is about to confess, she accidentally mentions Shinichi... And Heiji runs off like a bullet from a gun to his beloved Kudo and Kazuha ends confessing to thin air, with Takagi-keiji listening. LOLOLOLOL. Heiji teased Conan in the funniest way ever too! HeiShin... simply owns.

So I was wrong about Yonehara being the one who called Heiji out. I'm kind of annoyed though because Gosho never gave a good reason why Satake would want to call Heiji in the first place. The solution indicates she already knew why Kouhei was murdered, so there was no reason to bring detectives into it because she knows the answers. She may have gotten away with it if she didn't invite them over, and there weren't any indications that Satake wanted to be stopped or caught. Was there enough evidence to differentiate between Satake and Yonehara in that regard?

@Aeyra, It probably wasn't that difficult, more so if he was keeping up to date on case theories because those things were mentioned. There is a Japanese wikipage for the phenomenon which Justwantanaccount mentioned earlier in this thread.

Also, three weeks of no Conan. This was issue 36/37 which means no Conan next week, and then no Conan in issues 38 and 39. We'll get Magic Kaito for 38 and 39, but... blegh.

If the maid is truly the one who called Heiji, we probably see her again soon because Gosho give her character development. but since this is how far she went. I doubt she will reappear.

Will the next Conan case feature Sera? and Do you want it?

The culprit was the...

Secretary. She was the president's daughter from his first marriage.

Aw... Poor Kazuha.

She confessed, but Heiji had already run off... Seems like a little HeiShin moment. <3

HAHAHAHAHA. Heiji's face when he said "Hey... Kudo<3" I almost laughed myself silly! :D :D

Poor Kazuha. She worked up all her guts for nothing! When she said she was jealous of Conan, I was like "NO, you dont." Not when Heiji looks like a pedophile trying to torture Conan! XD

Yea, i feel like he didn't make much since in the end, some things were unexplained, so im unsatisfied, i picked the secretary because it satisfied most of those loose ends in my head. oh well, such is life

I think it was more of a Heiji gets to enjoy mocking Conan again moment. It would be HeijixShinichi (blegh...) if he was jealous. If anything Heiji was excited Ran confessed to Shinichi.

@User 4869 Sera means plot so yes, please. I really would like more scar Akai though. If Gosho doesn't drop clues about why Bourbon hates Akai before the clash, I'll be pissed. Maybe it will work out like Jodie's reason for hunting Vermouth --an 11th hour tease before the finale.
