Quick prediction:

Maybe File 1018 starts off with Sera, Ran and Sonoko talking and Sera declining the invitation...

 

In File 1019, Kid makes an appearance (before disguising himself)...

 

In File 1020, Momiji and Muga are revealed to be inside the museum...

 

in File 1021, we get Heiji confession attempt towards Kazuha.

So basically Conan and the others did call Heiji down cause Kid is rumored to show up for the jewel "Fairy's lips".
Heiji's got lips on the mind --Kazuha's and she thinks she's got something on her mouth and that's why he's staring at her.
Jiro got the challenge a week earlier. Nakamori wants more folks to be on security detail, but Jiro says what they have is enough. He's sure this time Kid won't get away.
Koumei shows up and he's basically calling Nakamori's plan --to fortify the defense around the jewel to be foolish.
Heiji's surprised Jiro?) came up with this plan, and it's then Jiro introduces them to Koumei.
And he's quoting 3 kingdoms of course. Only Ran has any idea of what he's talking about.
So the reason Koumei came to Tokyo is because a detective there has an envelope that seems to be addressed to him. The note on the envelope is smudged It reads something like
“Please send this to Insp*smudge* *smudge*i Takaaki of the Prefectural Police of *smudge*no”
But the Detective in charge that he was supposed to meet up with wasn't available so he came to hang out at the museum instead. (PLOT??)
Conan kind of mentions the last case and wonders if Koumei is here for that.
Well he thinks about it, but doesn't voice it out loud. (The serial policewoman murders case.)
He got an envelope with a message but the words were smeared so he couldn't make it out.
Kid is listening in as Ran explains to Kazuha who he is and he's like "Two high school detectives and a cop from Nagano? Maybe I shouldn't do this."
"At least not for tonight."
Fifth panel.
A jewel broker Torigoe Naeji implies that the jewel ain't nothin' much and Jiro should put it up for auction.
But then a girl --Moena Yamamoto says it was an important gift from her grandfather's oversea trips and it belongs to her, not on display.
Her grandmama passed away and she wants the jewel for the funeral service tomorrow.
Kid hears this and smirks. "So that's how it is".
It's then that kid delivers his message that he'll steal the jewel at midnight, and Heiji looks back at Kazuha thinking about her lips.
End.

And with it’s release, we can all but officially confirm that Scotch is Taka’aki’s/Koumei’s brother (just like we were all 99.9% sure that Shūkichi was Shūichi’s brother before the Ripples case, which finally made it 100% confirmed).

Its official—Taka’aki/Koumei is Hiromitsu’s/Scotch’s brother.

 

We see Wataru and Miwako meet with Taka’aki/Koumei and give him Hiromitsu’s/Scotch’s phone, and we see a panel of Hiromitsu with Rei, Jinpei Matsuda, Kenji Hagiwara, and Wataru Date during their police academy days, as well as a panel of Rei and Hiromitsu as kids.

Hey, how’s it going? 

 

In exchange for the faster character/story development (Shinichi and Ran in a relationship; Rum ordering Bourbon to investigate Shinichi; Yusaku revealing the Karasuma connection and staying in Japan to arrange a meeting with Bourbon to make a plan, which may very well involve at least one of the Nagano trio) we’ve had since File 1,000, we now get slower File output.

 

Even if the end is only, say, 75 Files away, this new pattern of 7-16 week breaks in between cases will mean it’s going to take years for us to reach that ending.

 

Bottom line—we’ve never been closer to the end… but it’ll still take years from now until we’re there.

Do we know how much of these extended hiatuses are health related? I'm starting to get very concerned that Gosho-sensei is seriously ill and trying to get the story done as quickly as possible. As obvious as 90% of the end of the series is (and he's apparently revealed important details to Conan's voice actress/his ex-wife and his editors), it'd still be tragic if we lost him before he could finish it.

He’s even worse off than Shinichi/Conan—Nakamichi and Shinichi’s other soccer pals aren’t dead.

 

I don’t see the point of this revelation of it isn’t to involve Taka’aki/Kōmei in the main plot—after all, you have that connection to Rei with the 0 on the envelope and Hiromitsu’s friend’s nickname AND we have the whole Rei/Shūichi/Kudōs meeting, with Hyōe aware of it. Too much is happening/adding up for this not to be an FBI/Japanese Security Bureaus/Team Conan effort against Rum and the BO due to the fallout of Shinichi’s public outing.
