Kaito "On the Phantom Lady (Part One)"

青子に変装して宝石を盗む快斗だが宝石の裏にメッセージの書かれたシール

Kaito steals jewel disguising as Aoko; message written on a sticker on the back of the jewel

「怪盗キッドよ…次は私のターンだ…月が猶予う土曜の夜…汚れ無き杭の頭に貴殿の宝石を封じて、18年前の借りをお返ししよう…」

"Kaito Kid . . . My turn is next . . . On Saturday night, when the moon hesitates . . . seal your* jewel on the filth-free head of a stake/nail, returning the debt from 18 years ago . . . "

*貴殿 = honorific 'your' or 'your house', I think 'your' is the appropriate meaning here but it could also mean 'your house's'.

目当ての宝石じゃなかったので中森警部にポストから郵送する所を何者かに写真で獲られる

Someone takes a photograph when mailing from the mailing box, since the jewel was not the right one

郷津会長の会社？で青子が怪しいと会議され、中森銀三が黒幕で娘にキッドを継がせた

At President Gouzu's company(?), talks about how Aoko is suspicious in a meeting, about how Ginzo Nakamori made his daughter succeed Kid behind the scenes

キッドが犯行中の青子は替え玉でもう餌は撒いておいたと話す

Talks about how the Aoko during Kid's heists is a double and how bait is already scattered

翌日学校でヘアピンをつけた青子が快斗に東都タワーの特別展望台のペア貸切ディナー招待券が当たり

The next day, Aoko, wearing a hairpin, talks to Kaito about how she won a pair of reserved invitation tickets to a dinner on the special viewing platform

その中にヘアピンが入ってたと話す

and about how the hairpin was included

快斗「確か展望台で大富豪の秘蔵コレクション展をやっててでっかいルビーが来週そこに展示されるとか…」

Kaito: "If I remember correctly, a huge ruby will be on display at the viewing platform as part of a multi-millionaire's treasure collection exhibition next week . . . "

青子「お父さんは来週から張り込みで行けないから友達と行きなさいって」

Aoko: "Dad says that I should go with a friend, since he'll be at a stakeout from next week"

快斗「だったらオレが付き合って…」

Kaito: "Then I'll be your company . . . "

紅子「私が先約よ！」快斗に「この招待状怪しいわよ…中森さん、応募した覚えないみたいだし…

Akako: "I have a prior engagement!" To Kaito: "This invitation is suspicious . . . it seems that Nakamori-san doesn't remember applying . . .

もしかしたらあなたの正体を知ってる誰かが、彼女があなたを誘うと見越した罠かも…

Maybe someone who knows your identity laid a trap, expecting her to invite you . . .

まぁ、あまり目立つ行動は控えなさい…出る杭は打たれるっていうし…」

Anyway, don't stand out too much . . . they say that a stake/nail that sticks out will be hammered in . . . "

快斗『出る杭…ま、まさか！？』

Kaito: "A stake/nail that sticks out . . . it can't be?!"

中森警部に変装してタワーに行く快斗（紅子にはバレバレ）

Kaito goes to the tower disguised as Inspector Nakamori (this is apparent to Akako)

２人で展望台に行き、置いてあった車に乗る青子→車から手錠と睡眠ガスが出て眠る青子

The two goes to the viewing platform; Aoko rides the car positioned there → a handcuff and sleeping gas comes out of car, Aoko sleeps

そこに郷津達が現れ会話→快斗『この状況どっかで…デジャヴか？』

The Gouzu's appear and converses → Kaito: "This situation . . . deja vu?"

郷津「18年振り。この場所を臭わすメッセージ。発信機付きヘアピンも壊さず付けて罠だと気づかなかったかね？」

Gouzu: "It's been 18 years. A message that suggested this place - even put on a hairpin with a transmitter without destroying it, and didn't realize that this was a trap?"

快斗「罠だってわかってたぜ？『汚れ無き杭の頭』ってのは～」

Kaito: "I knew that this was a trap - about the 'filth-free head of a stake/nail' . . ."

郷津「ほう…『出る杭は打たれる』は気づいたか…だがどうする？状況はかなり酷似しているが、

Gouzu: "I see . . . you recognized the 'a stake/nail that sticks out' part . . . then what? The situation has a strong resemblance,

あの時と違い、お前の相方は使い物にはならんぞ？」

but unlike that time, your partner is useless."

快斗「相方？」

Kaito: "Partner?"

郷津「女二十面相と謳われて、18年前にパリで忽然と姿を消した…怪盗淑女、ファントム・レディじゃよ！」

Gouzu: "Admired as the Twenty-Faced Woman, and suddenly disappearing 18 years ago in Paris . . . [i'm talking about] the mysterious woman thief, Phantom Lady!"

快斗『そうか！デジャヴじゃねぇ！こいつは18年前の…』

Kaito: "I see! This isn't deja vu! 18 years ago . . . "

（18年前パリ）怪盗淑女が宝石？を盗んで帰る所に（やっぱり…偽物ね）

(18 years ago, in Paris) As the Phantom Lady is returning after stealing a jewel(?) (as I thought, a counterfeit)

キッド「ブラボー！実に見事な手際だったが…警察官を恐怖させ血ノリ塗れにして失神させるあの手口は頂けない…

Kid: "Bravo! A truly magnificent performance! However, frightening the policemen and coating them with fake blood and making them faint is unsatisfactory . . .

私ならもっとエレガントな手段で…彼らを夢の世界に誘いますがね…」

"I would use a more elegant method . . . inviting them into a world of dreams . . ."

怪盗淑女「だ、誰！？」

Phantom Lady: "Wh-who are you?!"

キッド「黒羽盗一…ただの奇術師ですよ…」

Kid: "Touichi Kuroba . . . I'm just a magician."

I like this Phantom Lady character! She's proving to be awesome so far.

It's funny, I went to Universal Studios this summer, and I saw something like what the Phantom Lady was using. It looked like a knife, but it was made out of some soft, red material on the inside that looks like blood. If you used the knife and used it to saw your hand, it would look like you were cutting off your hand, ha ha.

Oh man, we're going to discuss Pt. 2 here, too? Okay, I'll change the thread title accordingly . . .

I liked it! I mean, a few things bothered me (I watched on Mythbusters that cars don't blow up when you drop them, they're usually specifically designed to prevent that - also, the bike falling faster than Toichi and Chikage bugged me, though if the bike was much more massive then it would have had less air resistance? I dunno), but it was a cool chapter overall. Gouzu's disciples, huh? I guess that we'll have more Kid chapters coming up some time in the future?

she did first show up over 20 years ago. An most of them look different than they did in chapter one by now. It does bug me that now she reminds me of Yukiko. Though that really explains the comment Kid made. Actually in the first episode of the anime Chikage's hair is just about the same color as Yukiko. Gosho doesn't color in Yukiko's hair. So she might have always had light colored hair just that how he shades has changed.
