Ariadne Miyano 4 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 Hey guys DC lovers! I have recently the works of Sherlock Holmes. I have all his books now but I'm not finished yet. Conan/Shinichi loves this man so much so I decided to buy last Friday the whole set for the sake of knowledge. I have read three novels so far (A Study In Scarlet, The Sign of Four, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) and halfway through The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. I am wondering if anyone here had read about him too. What do you think is his best case? So far, I think "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" and "The Musgrave Ritual". So other Sherlock Holmes fans, what's your favorite story. (I'm so looking forward for The Hound of Baskervilles. I will read it after The Memoirs.) Scar Akai 65 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I have read all the canon and a few fan written books(ie. sh encyclopedia, sherlockian,etc.)......my personal favourite is the Hound of Baskerville.
Kyuu Nye 425 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 Wrong place for this. This belongs in "Chatroom." Though they are both detective manga and Conan worships Holmes, this has nothing to do with DC. Also... You should REALLY delete that spoiler... That is the end of the case and it kinda gives it away. That said all said... If I had to choose, it would probably be the Final Problem. Moriarty vs Holmes. Amazing. Though... I really love most of them, the Sign of Four was also amazing. I enjoyed The Hound of the Baskervilles, but not as much as I thought I would hearing others speak of it so highly. (I think I set my expectations too high) You should watch the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. A pretty faithful dramatization (they did change some things, but nothing TOO bad, and I think it is the quintessential Sherlock Holmes series)

Kyuu Nye 425 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 ^ or place it in a spoiler box. I wonder..... there is the MOvie,Music,ANime,Manga,games......why is there no books section? You know... I'm not sure... That is a good question... Sorry I'm a newbie and I don't really have an idea on the parameters of this forum site. So where do yuo suggest to pst it? Or should I delete this? As I said in my post, it really belongs in the Chatroom section. You don't have to delete it, just have a mod move it (like Carpet Crawler or Chekhov Macguffin, I'd say Southpaw too, but I rarely see him/her). And PLEASE, put that spoiler in a spoiler box or get rid of it! You are giving away a major part of the resolution to the Adventure of the Speckled Band! Rukia Kurosaki 357 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I actually prefer Poirot to Holmes, but my favorite Conan Doyle stories would have to be The Five Orange Pips, and The Red Headed League.
Scar Akai 65 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I actually prefer Poirot to Holmes, but my favorite Conan Doyle stories would have to be The Five Orange Pips, and The Red Headed League. Well, Holmes and Poirot are quite different.... Holmes is made of a majority of Short Stories while Poirot, novels.
Rukia Kurosaki 357 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I suppose. But I prefer Poirot's approach of solving murders through psychology.

A pretty faithful dramatization (they did change some things, but nothing TOO bad, and I think it is the quintessential Sherlock Holmes series) Definitely this. The Final Problem was a little more action than most of the S Holmes stories but I found it one of the best. Though the Hound of Baskervilles, the first I read, was pretty good. I like Holmes, but the cases Conan has solved are sometimes much harder... I have to say I disagree. While in certain areas I do prefer DC, Sherlock Holmes has solved many cases that are harder. Conan's cases, in all honesty, are getting worse. Recently especially. Three suspects (always) and all filler cases. Though I have to say, after Moriarty's death I did lose some interest in Holmes. Cases didn't seem to be as good as before, probably partially because Doyle was planning on continuing before being barraged by fans. I personally enjoyed Sherlock by BBC. Modern Sherlock Holmes is what some people call it. Pretty interesting.
Detective Rohit 38 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I like Holmes, but the cases Conan has solved are sometimes much harder... Not really...At the time when Sherlock Holmes was writtern by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the resources were less. Forensics were at its birth stage. There were no DNA tests. If it was so in Conan, many cases would remain unsolved. Also Gosho has derived most of his stories from famous Mystery novels and stories. In Episode 1 itself, Shinchi say "Holmes was a perfect dtective", that is, Gosho himself says Sherlock Holmes was the best...even if in fiction.
-The Rising Angel- 48 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 Omg sun, how didn't I saw this???? Southpaw 61 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 I'm rather partial to "The Adventure of the Dying Detective", since that's the first one I was exposed to and I'm also enjoying the new series, even though it threw me for a loop that it was brought so far forward
AokoNakamori 24 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 my personal favourite is the Hound of Baskerville. mostly because...to me it's funny. why call a detective for a DEMON dog? why not a preist or something? but still. it's a great story
Sherlock Lupin 41 Report post Posted December 19, 2011 Hound of Baskerville and Dancing Men. Those two were fun for me.

Modern Sherlock Holmes is what some people call it. Pretty interesting. I so noticed that... I bought a book with all 60 stories (4 novels and 56 short stories) And towards the end I was losing interest. Anyway, I still love all of them so I can't decide which one is best
