DCW IRL Round 6: Jupiter

Recommended Posts

================ PLOT ================

Many years into the future, the earth is torn asunder by war, and the sun never shines past the smog covering the air. The survivors have piled into several small nations, of which the largest nation is known as Nubinelle. However, groups of people took control of these nations, and corrupt with power, began terrorizing their citizens. Desperate, hungry, these people soon accepted the bleak future, and believed that the future would never change.

Since the many wars, many people with unique powers began to show up, either using their powers to help others or using them to terrorize others. Uncreatively, they became known as "ability users". Their abilities range from rapid regeneration to manipulation of electricity and far beyond that as well. The only common link between these "ability users" is their dependence on an unknown energy inside their bodies, which they need to use their abilities, and running out of energy results in their death. The only known ways to recover energy are either resting or eating.

Now, in Nubinelle, the concentration of "ability users" are high enough where they began either fighting for the corrupt leaders or against them. With several powerful factions closing in on Nubinelle and its vast resources, the time is ripe for a spark to set off a huge flame...

And the mysterious organization known only as the Intelligence Services...what part do they play?

================ FACTIONS ================

This round will introduce factions to DCW IRL. Factions are groups of NPCs and players that work together to achieve their goal. In Nubinelle, there are four main factions:

8th Battalion

Formerly part of the Armed Forces, the 8th Battalion, under the command of Brent, became disgusted at the Armed Forces' gradual abuse of the people of Nubinelle, and split apart from the Armed Forces, but kept their name, the 8th Battalion. This faction now fights to overthrow the Armed Forces. The 8th Battalion is cautious and will rarely openly fight against the Armed Forces unless the situation is dire. They primarily serve humanitarian duties, protecting the people of Nubinelle and offering them food.

Unfortunately, the group splintered into two smaller factions after a small group of people lead by Jackson, no longer able to tolerate the 8th Battalion's cautious nature, split from the 8th Battalion and formed the Nubinelle Rebellion.

The 8th Battalion opposes the Armed Forces and is respected by a portion of the population. However, their lack of action makes them condemned by others. There is one open slots in the 8th Battalion, and it is the third largest faction.

Nubinelle Rebellion

The group of people that split from the 8th Battalion would form the Nubinelle Rebellion. The Nubinelle Rebellion shares the same goals as the 8th Battalion, but is far more prone to action than the 8th Battalion. Like the 8th Battalion, the Nubinelle Rebellion wishes to overthrow the Armed Forces.

Their numerous successes against the Armed Forces made their recruitment yield more people than the 8th Battalion. They are respected by the population. There are no more open slots in the Nubinelle Rebellion, and it is the second largest faction.

Armed Forces

Formerly an army of soldiers who pledged to serve the people, they soon became corrupt and began terrorizing the people with their sheer force. They currently run all the factories and most facilities in Nubinelle. Their only goal is now to remain in power.

They are largely feared and hated by the population; both the 8th Battalion and the Nubinelle Rebellion hate them. There is one open slot in the Armed Forces, and it is the largest faction.

Intelligence Services

A mysterious organization which produces devastating, high-tech armaments. They are suspected for being the group that instigated the entire war by selling arms to both sides. Their faction has the strongest members, and their goal is largely unknown.

They are largely feared by everyone. There are NO open slots in the Intelligence Services, and it is the smallest faction.

Misaki looked over herself one last time, scanning her body for any missing pieces. Members of the Nubinelle Rebellion were gathering today for a meeting to discuss their next course of action as well as train and she didn't want to leave anything behind.

Once she was positive she had what she needed, she flew down the stairs of her family's house. The clacking of her heels filling the halls as she ran into the kitchen and quickly threw together a sandwich for her father before grabbing an apple for herself. "Bye dad," she yelled out as she placed the sandwich outside of his workshop, "I'm going out for a meeting!"

No response came, per usual. Only the soft sound of clinking metal could be heard from the room. Still, she tried to get at least a sound from her parent. "I left you a sandwich where I usually put it, so don't forget to eat it!"

Nothing.

"If I'm not back by sunset, it's probably because I'll be dead from the Armed Forces!"

Still nothing.

"... The clock in the hall is off by a minute."

His deep voice, spoiled from years of cigarettes, grumbled, "Damnit! I thought I fixed that..."

Misaki could only sigh in response as she left, closing the door in a slam. Someday... I'll get his mind off of work. She hurried through the somewhat busy streets of Nubinelle, occasionally yelling out a greeting to the citizens of the country. It didn't take her long to reach the Rebellion's HQ, and as a result she got to the meeting just on time. As she entered the room, she smiled, "Hey everyone!"

\o/ STARTED!

=================================

'Pitpatpitpatpitpatpitpatpitpat...'

Sounds of footsteps echoed throughout the tunnel. There wasn't as much noise as there are sounds and echos of them walking. A small group of people with torchlights were ploughing around the tunnel amidst the darkness.

This tunnel was a recent battle spot. Whether or not it was a huge or useful fight, it was definitely a place where there might be resources to be collected. The entrance had already collapsed and was blocked by the debris. An attempt to remove the debris only resulted in a tiny hole which is too small for most adults to enter. However, those who are more petite can make their way through the hole.

"Found anything?!" Someone from outside the tunnel yelled in.

That's the leader of the excavation. He was way too tall to squirm in.

"Nope!" One of the girls answered to his question. "We've checked. There's nothing valuable here."

"Alright, let's wrap up then!" he announced.

One by one the crew left the tunnel. Another woman beside the leader did a headcount as they exited the tunnel.

"Wait..." she paused as the last crew exited the tunnel. "We should still have one more person..."

She did a recount and indeed, there was one missing. Everyone looked around, trying to find out who was the one missing and suddenly all of them came to a realization.

"Oh gosh... Not again?!"

------------

"Humph~" A girl in a huge black hooded jacket was making her way through the crowd in the streets of Nubinelle.

"Naughty! Naughty!" A tiny high pitched voice cried out from... somewhere. "Naughty! Naughty!"

"... Shutup~ You're too noisy." the girl complained.

"Naughty!" the voice continued.

"Humph..." The girl ignored the voice. "I can't believe they'd actually trick me into helping them collecting waste... I'm definitely not in for this..."

"Naughty!"

"..." She continued ignoring the voice.

The girl continued walking down the streets. It seems like there was an occasion or event happening on that very day and the streets are crowded with people. She enjoyed walking down the streets and seeing what everyone had to offer in their stores.

"Ah." the girl paused. She stopped in her tracks and immediately jumped behind a pillar, as if she was trying to hide from something. She then slowly poked her head out and peeked towards the direction of the plains where many people were gathered.

At the side, a little boy had fallen down and dropped all of his fruits. There was a someone beside helping him with it. The girl seemed to know that 'someone'. She continued to stare at that person from behind the pillar.

"Not going? Not going?" the high pitched voice cried out again. "Not going?!"

The girl hesitated a little, but after moments of consideration, she turned and hurried away instead.

"No. Not now."

As she left, a faint smile emerged from her face hidden under that gigantic hood.

Sakila loved the fresh air markets the 8th Battalion occasionally organized. The hubbub of the locals, the crisp fragrance of fruit—it all fit together perfectly. Since resources were limited, they could only be held about once or twice a year in selective areas of Nubinelle. But Sakila always made sure to attend them, usually as one of the supervisors, which was what her current job was. She was to supervise the buying and selling going on and make sure that the economy was slowly rising, even in these poorer areas of Nubinelle.

Sakila reached into the front pocket of her hoodie and pulled out her trusty spoon, placing it in her mouth as she reached for a container of yogurt from her pack. Yogurt was much harder to come by these days for the middle class, but Sakila splurged on the treat whenever she had money. Plus, it helped with replenishng her strength after she used her ability. Popping open the lid, Sakila licked it clean and placed it in her pocket before engulfing herself in strawberry heaven. She had a habit of collecting yogurt containers and she had a room at home solely devoted to the hobby. Not that anyone knew of course.

"Oi, sister, I can't see in front of me! Get out of the way, wouldja?!"

Sakila moved out of the way of a small boy carrying a box of fruits and vegetables. "Need some help?"

The boy rolled his eyes at the offer. "As if," he scoffed, "I've got this perfectly under contr—WHOAAA!!!"

Sakila winced as the boy tripped and went kersplat on the pavement. The fruits and vegetables had all fallen to the ground. Placing the now-empty container of yogurt back in her pack, Sakila knelt down and attempted to help the boy pick up the food.

"Leave it alone, sister, I got this! You 8th Battalion folk ain't really much good for nothing anyway."

Shrugging, Sakila continued to help him without saying anything. They were almost done when a man's voice cut through the silence.

"Makes me feel doko kara—BEEP"

Sakila fumbled for a while before she answered her phone. "H–hello?"

"Sakila? You're done for the day. Your shift is over. Good work, see you tomorrow!"

Sakila replied to the person on the other end before sighing and hanging up.

"Sister, ain't that song from the 2000s or something? Man, have you been living in the past." The boy chuckled before picking up his box and leaving. Sakila blushed then shook her head. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a person clad in black. Before she could further investigate, the person was already well on their way.

Rising from the ground, Sakila took a moment to calm down and close her eyes. When she opened them a split-second later, no one could see her. In her invisibilty mode, something she'd happily dubbed her Hidden Dragon technique, Sakila was nonexistent to the rest of humanity, a fly on the wall, and right now, pretty much a stalker. As soon as she'd gotten close enough, Sakila ran forward and poked the hoodie-wearing figure in the back. "Found you!"

"Found you!"

*HIC*

The black hooded girl turned and jumped back almost immediately and stuck to the wall in surprise shock.

"SAKILA!" She exclaimed. "You...! Do you have to do this all the time?!"

"Haha~" the other girl shrugged with amusement.

"SaKiLa Sakila!" A high pitched little voice cried.

"Ohhh... don't tell me?!"

"AND YOU!" the giant hooded girl yelled to it. "Why didn't you tell me Sakila was here!?"

"SAKILA SAKILA!" A little yellow thing hopped out of the giant black hood and onto the top of the head.

"Vivi, this is so cool! So you finally finished making that prototype, huh?"

Sakila couldn't help but notice how Vivi shied away from her and giggled. Squeezing closer to the younger girl on purpose, Sakila continued conversing with the bird. "And what's your name, young one?!" She threw her arm over Vivi's shoulder and watched amusedly as the girl pouted.

"Oh, wait," Sakila said, quickly turning to look at Vivi with a serious expression. "Don't you have Nubinelle Rebels have a meeting today or something?"

Ash sighed and tugged down the sleeve of her white martial arts uniform over a bandage on her arm. "Damn... If I'm late, they're gonna start askin' questions..." She attached her helix cuff and grabbed a cake box from the counter. "Misaki told me last time not ta get into that crap... she was right..." She tied a black belt around her waist, wincing as she tightened it. Two minutes later she was out on the street looking back at her empty apartment. "No lights... no outstanding ornaments." She walked calmly down the street, carrying a black duffel bag and staring straight ahead. Slipping out of an alley, she ducked out into the street.

"Alright, here we go... We're ransacking a village so we don't need any causalities on our men. This is the order from Greyfield" Petya told his troops as he readied his Dragunov. They are arrived near a village and he aimed the reticule to one of the guarding Nubinelle.

Ash noticed Petya and his men from 50 feet away, and glared at him. "You..." Sneaking around the border of the village, she observed the group's actions, taking her scythe from her back. Ash moved as Petya pointed a weapon at one of the Nubinelle, knocking the weapon from his grasp with her scythe and standing in front of the target. "Whattaya think yer doin', gen'ral?"

"Oh, wait, Sakila said, quickly turning to look at Vivi with a serious expression. Don't you have Nubinelle Rebels have a meeting today or something?"

Vivi shivered a little with the hug.

"Sa-Sakila!" her voice trembled as she gave her a death glare. The other girl, however, didn't even look threatened. If anything, she looked even more amused.

Truthfully, Vivi can't take hugs - she has a phobia of them. She has always hated hugs. And for who knows what reason, only Sakila knew why. And thus, Vivi, only takes hugs from Sakila. If anyone else did that, she might unintentionally cause another innocent death.

However, even so, she still feels embarassed with them, even if she tries to hide it, also, especially when Sakila tries to tease her with it.

The little bird didn't help either. It hopped up and down on her head being noisy. "Hugs! Hugs! Hugs!"

"Shutup! You're too noisy." Vivi yelled at the bird, who didn't seem to be affected.

"Hugs!" It continued. Sakila giggled.

It was like old times. Only at that time, her bird can't really talk. It only chirped. Her bird just went a little more hi-tech, that's all.

Vivi pulled down her hood to cover her face and leaned on the wall beside.

"You have anything you want to say to me? We're now in different groups... We shouldn't be spotted together."

"Is it okay to have a short chat then?" Sakila asked. "You can choose the location."

"..." Vivi paused. And then started walking without a word. The other girl started fading off and eventually disappeared.

"Tch." Ash rolled her eyes, drawing up her scythe. She nodded and the Nubinelle assaulted stand as though in formation, offering defense against Petya's men. "Ya say that as if I'm just gonna stand here and let ya," she growled, spinning forward to swipe the staff end at his face and give a whirling kick to his legs.

Ash shrugged. "I don't need to see ya ta fight." She ducked under his weapon and slashed at him with her scythe, activating Reaper's Touch. Then she joined a group of survivors and ducked through the gates, closing them as new defenses sprang up. Ash whispered to one of the group, who helped her head down a back alley, unseen and sightless, to HQ. Ash sighed as she felt her way along to the meeting hall.

She ducked through the entrance, sitting down carefully as she waited silently for Misaki's inevitable outburst at her appearance. For all she hides her feelings, she's good at spotting others... Ash bit her lip, wondering what was going on... The flash Petya had used... how long would the effect last? "Hey, Sparrow," one of the group said in greeting. "Uh, hey guys... Um, not that there's any problems, but- who exactly's here so far?" Ash smiled, faking normality, her light blue eyes blank as slate. "And by the way, does anybody know how long Gen'ral Petya c'n blind somebody?"

"Vivi, where exactly are we going?" Sakila asked.

"A place," Vivi turned her head towards the right and replied to the thin air.

"Actually, I'm walking on your left," Sakila clarified, grinning.

"I know," came the answer. "I'm facing away from you." Sakila immediately pouted at the statement before playfully wrapping her arm around Vivi's shoulder. The other girl grew visibly uncomfortable again.

"Is this my punishment for hugging you earlier? But your my cute wittle Vivi!"

"Squawk! Cute wittle Vivi! Squawk!"

"Shut up already! The both of you!"

Sakila wasn't sure but she thought Vivi might have been blushing under her hood. "Ah, little bird! What was your name again?"

"She doesn't have a name."

"Really? Then...how about I call you Kuu?!"

Vivi looked up shocked. "Hey, don't just give people's birds names! And what exactly is a Kuu anyway?"

"It's cute! Vivi. People are gonna worry if they see you yelling at nobody, by the way."

"Squawk! Kuu! It's cute! Kuu! It's cute! Squawk!"

"Hey, wait a second," Vivi paused. "What's going on over there?"

A group of Armed Forces members were gathered around the pass to a Nubinelle village. That's the village we served today! The market was thankfully over and all the civilians were back home. Only a few guards stood at the entrance of the pass, not at all able to block off an attack led by...Sakila peeked at the head. General Petya.

"Vivi, it's dangerous to stand around here. Let's hide." Sakila latched onto Vivi's arm and Kuu's wing. Closing her eyes, Sakila concentrated as hard as she could. Vivi disappeared from view after a while but Kuu was quite intricate. After finally cloaking him, the three skirted their way around the oncoming battle. A lone figure approached the head as Sakila and Vivi watched.

"Who's that?"

"Sparrow. Ash. She's a Nubinelle Rebel. And a masterful one at that," Vivi explained.

Sparrow, huh?

The two watched as the woman easily dispatched the general. The opposing army retreated back and she made her way towards who-knows-where. It was over in a second.

Suddenly, Sakila felt tired. She waited until the troops had completely disappeared before uncloaking Kuu and Vivi.

"Can we move soon? I need some strength. One container of yogurt can only last you so long. Where exactly are we going?" They began walking again.

"A place. Remember, you hugged me twice."

Sakila sighed.

The meeting was going well, albeit slightly boring. Misaki preferred battle to planning, but knew it was necessary to make them. As Jackson's voice filled the room, her eyes wandered around it, noticing that Sparrow wasn't there. Where is she? Don't tell me she decided to skip...

As if on cue, the girl entered the room quietly (though just a tad clumsily as well; which was strange since Sparrow was anything but clumsy) before sliding into a chair. She opened her mouth to yell out a greeting to her, just because there was no way she was letting get out of missing part of a planning meeting with consequences, but someone in the group beat her to the punch. "Hey, Sparrow," one of the group said happily.

"Uh, hey guys... Um, not that there's any problems, but- who exactly's here so far?" Ash smiled, faking normality, her light blue eyes blank of the usual cold fire that was held. "And by the way, does anybody know how long Gen'ral Petya c'n blind somebody?"

The room fell silent for a few moments before Jackson answered, "A day to a week. It varies. Now how come you want to know?"

It was obvious from his tone he knew why, but nonetheless he asked. The room fell back into a silence as they awaited to hear the response.

Ash laughed nervously. "Uh, no re'son... I'm fine." She smiled at who she hoped was Jackson, adding, "Jus' curious, Jacks." She squirmed a little in her chair, acting uncharacteristically her age. "Uh... well... Misaki's 'ere, ain't she...?" Ash sighed. Nothing gets past Misaki. "Soooo.... It's funny, really. On my way, I kinda, sorta... fought- 'im... an' 'e cheated. An' I can't see any of ya... haha, ain't that funny?" Again she laughed, noticing that no one joined in. "Just sayin', I didn' do anythin' reckless."

OMG. I thought I posted a huge long string of text but I guess it somehow didn't get posted =__=

I shall retype the entire thing then... :( I hope I remember what I wrote.

===========================

Vivi led Sakila through a series of turns and maze like streets til they came to an alleyway which few or none really frequented. This alleyway looked like it was part of a private property and few actually realised that it was not. Also, this area was rumoured to be haunted. Frequent shrieks and cries have been heard from around this place and it was rumoured that a witch in black often frequented. Due to these reasons, very few would actually venture into the area, much more so for the alleyway. However, Vivi had been frequenting this area for a few years already and have never had experiences like that at all. Thinking about it, those rumours might have actually been talking about Vivi and her bird from the very start.

They walked all the way to the end of the alleyway and there was a fence surrounding the entire area. There was an opening between the fences separated by a tall bush and using a step from beside the fence, she jumped over the bush. Sakila followed.

There are fences like this everywhere in Nubinelle. These fences are actually there to partition the different territories of the different parties. The one that Vivi and Sakila just crossed, was partitioned for 8th Battalion. It was thought that the area they have jumped into was the territory of Nubinelle rebellion's. However, nobody knew that there was actually a tiny area unmarked in between those two. Having been in both the parties, Vivi knew of many of such details. Vivi decided to mark that as her own territory, and dumped some of her stuff in it.

"We're here." Vivi announced as Sakila surveyed the surroundings. The signs of this place being habited was very obvious. There are stools all around the place. There are even bicycles and scrapped car and machinery parts lying around. There is also this huge 'who-knows-what' electronic box at one corner.

"What's that?" Sakila questioned, pointing to the giant box.

"Ah..." Vivi glanced at the box. "It's an electronic safe."

Vivi walked over to it, and touched the box. There were sounds of mechanism turning and switching and the lid of the box opened. "I use it to keep some important stuff."

"...How convenient." Sakila shrugged. "You don't even need a key."

"Heh." Vivi shrugged as she closed the lid to the box. "So... how have you been?"

"It's not good to lie, Spar." William put one hand on Sparrow's shoulder, fully aware that she could not see. "Jackson, sir, the weapon shipment got delayed by the recent Armed Forces attack. The attack scared off the trucks, so we'll be low on arms for a bit. I recently got word that Spar here chased off the entire attack nearly singlehandedly, but got hit by Blind Eye."

"We'll be without one of our best fighters, and low on arms." Jackson was frowning, and the mood turned sour in the room. "It looks like we'll have to fall back on our regular operations, sadly. Unless we get Brent to lend a hand..."

The people shifted uncomfortably. Brent was well known, and public opinion of him varied among the Rebellion. "For now, we will hold off on our operations, and get Brent's assistance along with his entire battalion. Misaki, I'd like you to get in touch with him. Bring a team."
