This also explains why the kid couldn't swim in the "water" and was sopping wet afterwards - the murderer had to thoroughly wash white cornstarch residue off of him. Light haired lady Koyanagi Midori is definitely the most suspicious here because of the way she tried to convince the detectives the foggy white pool was just normal water. It's possible the male photographer might know the secret because the photo of the practicing murder (aka the Kamaitachi) and the guy in the pool are from the same angle. It takes time to add cornstarch to water and mix, so unless the photos were from completely different times it's likely the guy knows. When and how were those photos triggered to take? (We do know it was a "candid camera" and it is unlikely the murderer would want to be filmed practicing.) By the way, there is a myth that gum (like Koyanagi Midori was chewing) can be used to delayed-action break a lightbulb if you stick it to it. A lightbulb can also be broken by spraying it with a thin stream of cold water from a squirt bottle.
