LucasIchiro 2 Report post Posted March 10, 2015 Alright, so I was doing some research and this is what I found: Disclaimer: I wouldn't watch any of these videos except for the last few. They're really not that worth it if you're here. . . Also, I know from lurking around the forum the Moderators are kind of anal about which threads should be where, and I totally respect that. So if it shouldn't be here, just move it. But keep in mind, these reviews are for anything relating to Conan-- the manga, the anime. . .eventually I'll get to the games and the movies, maybe even some miscellanious stuff that I can find. The limits are endless!! Detective Conan Anime Series Review! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScMveVyynz0 This guy is super excited about Case Closed and claims it is the most re-watchable anime, without really explaining why. He focuses on two of the DVD's for most of the videos and it's really meant for people who might be interested in Case Closed. Not really useful for someone who's been watching it for a while. Review #37-Case Closed DVD History in America https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPNyFcMog-c This review only talks about the release history of Case Closed (The English version), not very entertaining and kind of hard to follow. You can find this information rather easily online, I think. Detective Conan/Case Closed Season 1 Review/ First Impresions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg_o-kPKeI4 This guy only watched the first season, there isn't really anything talking about the art of the show. I'm assuming this guy does more reviews for like, One Piece or something, so he's actually not that interested in examing it. Detective Conan - Case Closed first Review first video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W-b7wnVuoI This review is mainly about the manga, is the reviewers first video and he tries a good job to make the video entertaining. It's kind of like, you go over your friends house who has all the manga and then he just shows you his collection. He admits Kaito Kid is his hero, gets a little nervous and recommends the manga to everyone. He even says that he became a criminal justice major because of Conan, which is commendable! If you don't have all the manga and you want to see how the spine pictures match up, it's pretty cool. Detective Conan Review(Case Closed) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avt0z6WPfM8 This review is pretty entertaining, but it's clear that he does this kind of thing for other animes. It's just a sort of synopsis of the first episodes of Case Closed. case closed review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6j7TkGWhMk This is a review by Retromoviegirl, she seems super anxious and loud which is kind of funny. She says she's doing a full review but she really doesn't talk about the Anime. Just preaching the good word out to other Anime fans, I guess! Detective Conan / Case Closed Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSF4ZmuEZMY This guy is pretty cool, the first review that extends to the subs. The presentation is a lot better, a lot of different pictures to go with his voice. The actual quality of the review is questionable though, I think he could've done a lot better and maybe wrote a script for what he was going to say. It's kind of confusing because if you're going to write a review for Case Closed you should probably know Richard Moore is addicted to Yoko Okino. If you watch the anime, if you're a fan, I think it's just a piece of information you should know. Maybe by now you're wondering why I'm being so critical of these reviews. Let me show you a video of another anime, and what I sort of expect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRpCe2_6Ids There's an introduction video with it's own music that airs on every episode as standard, then it immediately goes into an essay-like description of the context in which the anime takes place in. Immediately afterwards, the reviewer cuts off the essay and presents the anime itself as being 'TOTAL APESHIT INSANITY', following it with clips of the show itself. Then it cuts back to the reviewer who further describes the anime. Just go ahead and watch a little bit of this video. While you do this, I want you to ask yourself, "What if this was about Conan?" So now we're on our quest to find a comparable review of Conan. What other review videos are there? Anime DVD Reviews:Detective Conan/Case Closed Boxset https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96tqFfUlUAU This review is a lot better, it has its own introduction and the reviewer has a personality. Now this isn't exactly Bennet the Sage quality, but I don't think that's what was intended. Just another anime reviewer reviewing another anime, spreading the good word. Detective Conan Episode 1 Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT6jTIvMC9c Here is two people reviewing Detective Conan. It's a bit lackluster, there's no image editing, just sort of a conversation between two people about Conan. I think they miss a lot of a point of the art, there's a lot of spaces in between talking but it seems like some of it's scripted. The male reviewer nominates Richard as the best father ever for drinking all the time, chasing after women and beating Conan. The female reviewer said that sometimes the cases are solved with clues that aren't presented to the viewers, which I think is pretty false. I like the fact that they're actually talking about the anime, it's a step up, but not quite a review I would recommend anyone, especially if they're interested in Detective Conan. It just doesn't seem like they care about the anime they're reviewing. The whole video I just want to say "I don't even think you should be doing this." detective conan review part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gclE7ZEfWgM Alright, this is where things start turning up! The video starts out with some power metal coupled with scenes from various Anime's that are a little more popular, like One Piece and Dragon Ball Z. There are even guests! And it's not spoiler free. This is a step in the right direction. The main reviewer gives a general review of each character. Now my immediate problem with this review, is there's a lot of space. If you're going to watch a review, it should be scripted, the pictures should match the content that the reviewer is talking about-- everything is done in one take, and some of the reviewers are nervous. It's just daunting when you see the video is 22:38 minutes and there's a 28:02 part 2. Do you want to spend almost an hour listening to some people almost directionlessly talk about Conan? I'm just not sure about their formula. They seem to have a lot of fun with it, but it's lost in the silence and the slow pace of explaining the plot. I know I'm trying to make a comprehensive description of these videos, but judging from the initial quality of the first ten minutes, I'm just not impressed. We're gonna move on to some better reviews: FMDC https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcPDx9BXJfgPO-lkEdKDXjQ/featured Detective Conan Chapter 905 Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FDrfVMT3GA Now this is impressive; the reviewer goes through and talks about the manga in detail, specifically chapter 905. Now, I'm a little disappointed because she doesn't start from the beginning, but I'll take what I can get. She also has a few other videos that are Conan related, like a folk version of the Detective Conan Theme! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh1gnbSpfKM) As well as some Cosplay stuff, like the Tracking Glasses (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peduYYLK4ME) And even a Lets Play of The Mechanical Temple! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgYfsqgPEfs) Now, in this post I don't think I'll cover all the Lets Play videos that are on Youtube for Detective Conan, but it seems like a good project for another time! The good news, the last video was a put up a week ago. This is probably one of the first videos that actually deserves attention if you're a Detective Conan fan. Okay, now for the finale! ExtremeConanLover https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC_PGmIiAm4TTsz2QtNoLGQ Detective Conan Episode 1 Review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT6jTIvMC9c I really like this video! The presentation is well done, the reviewer has a lot of personality, music is played behind the narration that totally fits. This is a prime example of quality presentation of the series; the reviewer goes on rants that are entertaining and consistent, she knows what she wants to say and it's easy to follow, there are scenes of the anime that are playing that provide context for what she's talking about. . .This is pretty much what I've been looking for this whole time. Now this video was done in 2014, but the other videos she has done were in 2010. It's actually kind of interesting watching her grow up through the videos. I haven't watched all of them, and I have to admit the 2010 video's quality isn't stellar, but it's a great effort among the rest of the videos presented. I can totally respect the effort, but it's still might not quite be up to being an entertaining video for someone who knows the first ten episodes like the back of their hand. If there are any more reviews I might have missed, post them below! We can have a little archive or something, maybe even throw some support at some of the more respectable reviewers. I don't know when I'll scour the internet for reviews of the movies, but seeing as I haven't watched any of them (wow!) I kind of don't want to spoil them. Also, I might as well admit, I'm only up to 136 (wow!) Hope this was helpful!
