The Beika City Shopping Center Garbage Bin Mystery (米花商店街ダストミステリー ,Beika shōten-gai dasutomisuterī) is the 1002nd episode of the Detective Conan anime. This episode is a pre-story for The Scarlet Bullet. It was originally scheduled to air on April 18, 2020 as episode 975, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It finally aired on April 17, 2021 as episode 1002.

Case

Situation

Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys found out that each morning new trash are appearing at the site where there used to be a garbage bin. Meanwhile, there is an arguement between Beika shopping center store association members about whether they should use store association budget to reinstall new garbage bin. At the same moment, Ran's teacher asked the class to submit ideas for entertaining the guests coming to Tokyo for WSG.

The culprit is the cat. Isojima usually collect the trash and dispose it in the supposed garbage bin, but because she is in the hospital, the cat do it instead.

The store association members then decide to reinstall garbage bin, but the budget is not enough to cover. Ran, Sonoko, and Sera then come and suggest the members to use their "garbage takeout bag". It is actually an ordinary tote bag with Japanese-style pattern, but one can put garbage bag inside it to take the garbage with them. They also suggest selling the bag as souvenirs for foreigners. The store association members then agree with Ran's idea.

As a reward for finding the culprit, Sonoko invites the Detective Boys to the WSG Tokyo party. The episode ends with Conan saying: "However, we had no idea that would be start of that horrifying case...", which is hint towards the plot of movie 24. The final scene shows the "Vacuum Superconducting Linear" train reaching 1000km/h.

Trivia

• WSG is based on the Olympic games, which they have every four years. The summer games which will be in 2024 will begin on Friday, July 26, and ends on Sunday, August 11.
• Chiemi Isojima's cat has the same character design as the stray cat in Welcome to Bocchan Restaurant.
