Case 1:
Situation
Conan and Ran visit Sonoko's mountain villa to see the autumn leaves and meet up with some old friends. On the way to the front they see a strange bandaged man in a dark cloak crossing the bridge. When they see him he turns around, shocking them with his face and eye contact as he quickly makes a retreat around the side of the house. Everything seems fine as Ran tries to find her room, accidentally walking in on the boys of the house. When everyone is asked about the bandaged man he is brushed off as possibly a crazy man with nothing better to do. However he is taken far more seriously when later one of the girls is seen being carried off by him from the windows, the boys give chase and find her dismembered body in the woods. He had previously attacked Ran in the woods earlier, but ran off when Conan gave chase. Everyone panics and decides that it's best to go to bed for the night, when he strikes again, this time trying to kill Ran in her sleep. Conan kicks Ran out of the way, using his bow-tie to wake her up, she freezes up as Conan grabs for him, but he is thrown against the bed, twisting his ankle. The bandaged man quickly makes a hasty retreat, leaving Conan to wonder why he is targeting Ran.

Case 2:
Situation
Everyone decides to stay up for the night and keep together to throw off the murderous man in bandages. Conan suspects that Ran saw something that made her a target for the bandaged man, and the culprit is one of the people staying there. The rush for remembrance is on as Conan desperately tries to solve the mystery before the bandaged man strikes again.
People
Resolution
Using Sonoko's persona to express his thoughts, Conan unravels the whole mystery of the murder and attempted murder. Revealing the heavier set of the men was not really heavy set! Ran saw this when she walked in on him, making her a target to cover his tracks (he hid part of the body under himself so that Conan would not think that the medium builded bandaged man was him). He tries to explain that the woman deserved it, as she stole the manuscript of her friend's book and turned it into her own movie, causing the friend to commit suicide. After he tries to explain why it was noble to do this, Conan (as Sonoko) tells him that trying to kill Ran was never noble and that it was not something someone valiant would do. Realizing his mistake, the man falls to the ground in sorrow and regret for what he has done as the sun comes out, ridding them of the horrors of that cold night.
Manga to anime change
The manga version of this story was the first appearance of Sonoko Suzuki (while in the anime she made her debut in Valentine Murder Case), as well as the first time that Conan solved a murder through her (which in the anime was first done in A June Bride Murder Case). The manga version established that she never met Conan until now.
