Conan begins to suspect the son-in-law and they are able to find the man in time to give him the medicine. Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and deduces that the son-in-law was responsible for the kidnapping. He admits to the kidnapping, and sadly it is revealed that neither his father-in-law nor his wife harbored any ill-feelings toward him (he was trying to be strict with him so that he would be able to inherit the family business).
