Kogoro Mouri and Eri Kisaki are a married couple, who have been living separately from each other for ten years because of a personality clash. Despite being separated, they still love each other, although they will sometimes put on a show of disdain for the other. They were known to be a couple even in elementary school, making them childhood friends. It is a running gag that over the course of a case, one of the pair will come close to asking the other if they could move back in together, but then somehow Kogoro ruins the situation by doing something inappropriate or drunkenly flirting with another woman. Their daughter, Ran, tries to get them to hook up with each other by planning out ways for them to see each other out of the blue.

Kogoro Mouri and Eri Kisaki (officially Eri Mouri) have been a married couple for about 18 years, with the last ten spent separately because of huge personality clashes. Before the marriage, they were very good friends and a couple since elementary school. Despite being separated, they still love and care about each other, although they often put on a show of disdain for each other. It is a running gag that over the course of a case, one of the pair will come close to asking the other if they could move back in together, but then somehow Kogoro ruins the situation by doing something inappropriate or drunkenly flirting with another woman. Their daughter, Ran, is constantly trying to get them to hook up with each other; usually, it is by directly asking them or by planning out ways for them to see each other out of the blue.

* Eri mentions that she would go back to Kogoro if he would just be a little bit nicer and not act immaturely to her.
+
* Eri is revealed to be Ran's mother right before the end of the case (Conan does not recognize her because he have not seen her in ten years).
 +
* When Ran asks whether she is considering going back home, Eri firmly rejects, and proceeds to list the many vices of Kogoro, and also claims that the only invaluable things that have come out of the marriage are Ran and the one-arm shoulder throw manoeuvre that Kogoro taught her.
 +
* Ran does not give up, and asks why Eri married Kogoro if she knew that he had so may flaws in his personality; Eri replies that maybe it is just the destiny of childhood best friends.
 +
* Ran also asks why Eri would not take off her wedding ring if in fact she thinks so poorly of Kogoro. This question turns out to be too easy for Eri; she casually replies that the ring serves to tell other "boring men" that they should not try to flirt with her.
 +
* Although Eri cannot find anything positive to say about Kogoro, she still have feelings towards her, as evidenced by her proud expression when she sees Kogoro on TV (Kogoro, via Conan, is revealing the truth behind a previous murder case).
 +
* The clip played on TV also includes a phone call where Kogoro tells some woman that since he and his wife no longer live together, he is available for an all-night celebration. This visibly annoys Eri, and she waves goodbye to Ran as she says that she will not go back home just yet.

* Ran encourages Eri to call Kogoro; she does exactly that, and tries to introduce a new client to Kogoro, only to be yelled at by an indignant Kogoro, who says that he does not need her help. Kogoro then orders her to stop bothering him before hanging up angrily.

* In the two-part episode, Scuba Diving Murder Case, Eri accidentally loses her wedding ring on the beach, but pretends to have left it at home to see if Kogoro noticed. She gets angry when Kogoro doesn't appear to notice it, especially when he leaves their lunch early to go back to the beach. Later, it is discovered that Kogoro had always known that she wasn't wearing her wedding ring, and had gone back to the beach to look for it. This left a visibly shocked Eri to drive home speechless, but pleased.
+
* This is the first occasion where Ran tries to fix her parents' relationship by telling them to go somewhere separately and making them meet, pretending that it is a coincidence and that they meet because there is a telepathic connection or something like that between them.
 +
* Eri accidentally loses her wedding ring on the beach, but pretends that she has deliberately left it at home in order to see if Kogoro has noticed.
 +
* As Kogoro appears to not have noticed anything, Eri sighs and remarks that her marriage is a failure, and that maybe she should end it altogether and start a new stage in her life.
 +
* The fact that Kogoro brings over a few young ladies to Eri later (and invites them to have lunch with them) makes Eri's thoughts firmer. As Kogoro introduces Eri to those ladies, she interjects and claims that she is his ex-wife.
 +
* After the case is solved, Kogoro tosses Eri's missing ring to her, and tells her that he knows since the beginning that the ring was missing, and thus set out to find it. This implies that Kogoro actually met those young ladies accidentally, and did not meet them on the beach, flirted with them and invited them to have lunch with them.
 +
* Eri is surprised and touched by Kogoro's words, but as Kogoro is soon back to his normal mode, Eri leaves, somewhat resigned. She is later seen with the wedding ring back on her ring finger again.

*It shows that Kogoro and Eri each keep track of the others cases.

* Ran wants to sew a coat for Shinichi, but she does not know how to, prompting her to go to Eri for help. Eri agrees to demonstrate her the sewing process, and ends up sewing two coats herself. She tells Ran to dispose of them, and Ran, understanding the hidden message, gives one to Kogoro.
* In another episode, Eri actually captures a confession from Kogoro saying that he misses her and wishes she would come back to him on a minidisc, replaying it over and over again afterwards. However, even though they both miss each other, both of them still pretend not to care, and even become incredibly nasty to each other.
+
* Kogoro does not seem to know that the coat is sewed by Eri.
* Kogoro encounters his wife Eri once again at a vacation spot, where he eventually becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her colleague and rival, Ritsuko Usui.

* Kogoro, along with Ran and Conan, unexpectedly finds Eri shopping with a fellow lawyer at a resort in Gunma. He suspects that his wife is going out with that lawyer, not knowing that she is actually trying to pick a present for himself (as the next day will be their wedding anniversary).
 +
* After it is revealed that Kogoro and Eri both keep track of the cases that the other one has been dealing with, their relationship softens, and they agree to have a drink together, along with a few of Eri's acquainted lawyers.
 +
* Kogoro soon gets drunk, and his old bad habits while drunk once again enrages Eri. She then leaves, and laments that the tie that she picked for him will go to waste. Ran stops her and offers to give the tie to Kogoro, but Eri forcefully rejects, and then says shyly that she will give the present to Kogoro herself.
 +
* Later, Kogoro is found in a locked room, with the corpse of the female lawyer that he flirted with a moment before; Kogoro is sleeping at the time Eri and others break into the room and sees the corpse.
 +
* Much to everyone's surprise, Eri refuses to defend her husband in court, while openly declaring that in her opinion, the evidence strongly suggests that Kogoro has murdered that lawyer.
 +
* Later, we see that her real intention is to remain at the crime scene in order to gather evidence that can prove Kogoro's innocence.
 +
* Eri, with Conan's help, eventually manages to unmask the true murderer and clear Kogoro's name. The next morning, Kogoro walks to where Eri is having breakfast (presumably) and sincerely asks her to come back with him, even saying that he is tired of Ran's cooking and wants to try something new (remember that Kogoro knows very well that Eri's cooking was always horrible). Since Eri does not respond at all, Kogoro shakes her, and finds out that she is just listening to Ran's MD without actually hearing anything that he said.
 +
* Ran runs towards her parents and asks what is going on, and Kogoro reply involves referring to himself as "the person whom Eri loves the most". Eri interrupts and corrects him, then lectures him on alcohol, which causes Kogoro to refuse to play nice anymore.

* The events take place when Kogoro, along with Ran and Conan, unexpectedly finds Eri shopping with a fellow lawyer, Norifumi Saku. He suspects that his wife is going out with Saku, not knowing that she's actually trying to pick a present for himself as the next day will be their wedding anniversary. They agree to have a drink together with Eri's other acquainted lawyers, but the detective's old bad habits while drunk once again enrages her.
+
* Kogoro does not know that Eri was listening to him; actually, she even recorded his nice words. She would play those words again and again, while thinking that although they are sweet and sincere, they are not enough to convince her to go back.
* Later, Kogoro accompanies the lawyers back to the hotel, where he, while unconscious, is instead brought to Usui's room as one of her tactics to ruin Eri's career by having "the queen" suspect that her husband has been cheating on her. An unexpected turn of events occurs when Usui is strangled by an unknown culprit with Kogoro being the only one found sleeping inside the locked crime scene. He is then suspected to have committed the murder.
+

* Much to everyone's surprise, Eri refuses to defend her husband in court, while openly declaring her accusation of Kogoro. However, her real intention is to remain at the crime scene in order to find a way to prove his innocence, but Kogoro misunderstands this and angrily walks away after replying with some sarcastic comments.

The next day morning, after learning of his wife's deeds, Kogoro walks to where Eri is sitting and apologizes to her. He also sincerely asks her to come back with him, only to find out that she's just listening to Ran's MD without actually hearing anything that he said. Kogoro gets angry at Eri again as she leaves, not knowing that she has recorded all of his nice words into the disk.
+
* When Kogoro takes notice of Shizuka Ikenami's youth, beauty and temperament, he immediately becomes a gentleman, and tries to flirt with her, forcing Ran to emphasize whenever she can that he is already married.
 +
* Sango Yokomizo mistakes Shizuka for Kogoro's wife; Kogoro blushes and asks: "Does it look like so?"

* Ruri Ujo - a middle school classmate of Kogoro and Eri - reveals that the pair had a very good relationship since very young, but since they had widely different personalities, they used to bicker over everything, such as which sauce should be served with fried eggs.
 +
* Since Ruri has changed a lot since middle school and now is an elegant and successful actress, Kogoro tries to hit on her at the beginning of the case, even saying that Ran is a neighbour's child when introducing her to Ruri.

* Kogoro lost more than 8 million yen to gambling, and is in a dire situation. Ran calls Eri for help; she initially wants to refuse and make Ran come live with her, but when Ran claims that Kogoro has been muttering her name even in sleep, her heart is softened and she agrees to help.
 +
* When she arrives at the Detective Agency, she finds Kogoro muttering Yoko Okino's name instead. Ran swears that Kogoro was saying her name before, and Eri accepts this explanation, albeit reluctantly. She then says that she agrees to help only because she does not want Ran to have a father deep in debt.
 +
* Eri meets Yukiko Kudo after not seeing her for ten years; both are excited to see each other. They bring up the "Miss Teitan" competition, which was held 20 years ago to decide who was the prettier and more talented between Eri and Yukiko.
 +
* After Eri gets 10 million yen of commission fee, she pays off Kogoro's debt and head back to the Detective Agency, planning to leave the rest of the money to Kogoro and to ask him about whom he voted for in the competition.
 +
* Kogoro reveals that if he had not thought that the competition was too boring, he would have voted for Eri, because he thought that the word "miss" in "Miss Teitan" was the verb referring to "fail to do something".
 +
* Ran asks how he would have voted if he had understood the true purpose of the competition, and Kogoro says without hesitation or reservation that he would have voted for Yukiko instead of Eri.
 +
* In the midst of anger and dismay, Eri decides that she would split most of the rest of the commission fee between her and Yukiko. Ran, who is obviously also very disappointed by the answer, says that from what is left, she will take most to pay for the fees essential for keeping the family running.
 +
* So, in the end, Kogoro is left with about 4 thousand yen.

Kogoro reveals he voted for Eri since he thought "Miss Teitan" meant "mistake" and that it was a mistake for Eri to have entered the competition. However, he would vote for Yukiko instead of Eri over beauty. In the midst of her anger and disappointment, Eri confiscated money that she earned doing a detective job for him for Yukiko, Ran and herself.
+
* Since Ran finds a photo of Eri and a man unknown to her in her office, and her wedding ring is in the rubbish bin, Ran suspects that Eri has an affair. He thus follows Eri to the café where Eri is meeting that man.
 +
* Since Eri is brought to tears during the meeting and is saying strange things, Ran decides that the man is manipulating her and taking advantage of her soft spots for sinister purposes.
 +
* Later, Ran finds out that the man that Eri is meeting is a vet, whom she is consulting because her cat, Goro, has been agitated in sleep lately. As for the wedding ring in the bin, it was because Goro thought it was rubbish.
 +
* Ran is still not entirely convinced, and remarks that Eri is showing way too much of her body. This has an explanation as well: it is the anniversary of Kogoro and Eri's first ever date, and Eri is wearing the same as what she wore then such that, in her dinner with Kogoro, he will recall those good times and perhaps change his attitude towards her.
 +
* The dinner does not happen in the end, and Kogoro ends up drinking alone. The suit he wears is also exactly what he wore during the first date.

Relationship analysis

Kogoro and Eri in school

Kogoro and Eri moments

Manga/Anime

Volume 11: Files 105-107 / Episode 32: Coffee Shop Murder Case

  • Eri is revealed to be Ran's mother right before the end of the case (Conan does not recognize her because he have not seen her in ten years).
  • When Ran asks whether she is considering going back home, Eri firmly rejects, and proceeds to list the many vices of Kogoro, and also claims that the only invaluable things that have come out of the marriage are Ran and the one-arm shoulder throw manoeuvre that Kogoro taught her.
  • Ran does not give up, and asks why Eri married Kogoro if she knew that he had so may flaws in his personality; Eri replies that maybe it is just the destiny of childhood best friends.
  • Ran also asks why Eri would not take off her wedding ring if in fact she thinks so poorly of Kogoro. This question turns out to be too easy for Eri; she casually replies that the ring serves to tell other "boring men" that they should not try to flirt with her.
  • Although Eri cannot find anything positive to say about Kogoro, she still have feelings towards her, as evidenced by her proud expression when she sees Kogoro on TV (Kogoro, via Conan, is revealing the truth behind a previous murder case).
  • The clip played on TV also includes a phone call where Kogoro tells some woman that since he and his wife no longer live together, he is available for an all-night celebration. This visibly annoys Eri, and she waves goodbye to Ran as she says that she will not go back home just yet.

Volume 14: Files 131-138 / Episode 96: The Cornered Famous Detective! Two Big Murder Cases

  • Ran encourages Eri to call Kogoro; she does exactly that, and tries to introduce a new client to Kogoro, only to be yelled at by an indignant Kogoro, who says that he does not need her help. Kogoro then orders her to stop bothering him before hanging up angrily.

Volume 17: Files 163-165 / Episodes 114-115: Scuba Diving Murder Case

  • This is the first occasion where Ran tries to fix her parents' relationship by telling them to go somewhere separately and making them meet, pretending that it is a coincidence and that they meet because there is a telepathic connection or something like that between them.
  • Eri accidentally loses her wedding ring on the beach, but pretends that she has deliberately left it at home in order to see if Kogoro has noticed.
  • As Kogoro appears to not have noticed anything, Eri sighs and remarks that her marriage is a failure, and that maybe she should end it altogether and start a new stage in her life.
  • The fact that Kogoro brings over a few young ladies to Eri later (and invites them to have lunch with them) makes Eri's thoughts firmer. As Kogoro introduces Eri to those ladies, she interjects and claims that she is his ex-wife.
  • After the case is solved, Kogoro tosses Eri's missing ring to her, and tells her that he knows since the beginning that the ring was missing, and thus set out to find it. This implies that Kogoro actually met those young ladies accidentally, and did not meet them on the beach, flirted with them and invited them to have lunch with them.
  • Eri is surprised and touched by Kogoro's words, but as Kogoro is soon back to his normal mode, Eri leaves, somewhat resigned. She is later seen with the wedding ring back on her ring finger again.

Volume 24: Files 234-237 / Episodes 170-171: The Blind Spot in the Darkness

  • Ran wants to sew a coat for Shinichi, but she does not know how to, prompting her to go to Eri for help. Eri agrees to demonstrate her the sewing process, and ends up sewing two coats herself. She tells Ran to dispose of them, and Ran, understanding the hidden message, gives one to Kogoro.
  • Kogoro does not seem to know that the coat is sewed by Eri.

Volume 27: Files 264-266 / Episodes 199-200: Kogoro Mouri, Suspect

  • Kogoro, along with Ran and Conan, unexpectedly finds Eri shopping with a fellow lawyer at a resort in Gunma. He suspects that his wife is going out with that lawyer, not knowing that she is actually trying to pick a present for himself (as the next day will be their wedding anniversary).
  • After it is revealed that Kogoro and Eri both keep track of the cases that the other one has been dealing with, their relationship softens, and they agree to have a drink together, along with a few of Eri's acquainted lawyers.
  • Kogoro soon gets drunk, and his old bad habits while drunk once again enrages Eri. She then leaves, and laments that the tie that she picked for him will go to waste. Ran stops her and offers to give the tie to Kogoro, but Eri forcefully rejects, and then says shyly that she will give the present to Kogoro herself.
  • Later, Kogoro is found in a locked room, with the corpse of the female lawyer that he flirted with a moment before; Kogoro is sleeping at the time Eri and others break into the room and sees the corpse.
  • Much to everyone's surprise, Eri refuses to defend her husband in court, while openly declaring that in her opinion, the evidence strongly suggests that Kogoro has murdered that lawyer.
  • Later, we see that her real intention is to remain at the crime scene in order to gather evidence that can prove Kogoro's innocence.
  • Eri, with Conan's help, eventually manages to unmask the true murderer and clear Kogoro's name.
  • Ran runs towards her parents and asks what is going on, and Kogoro reply involves referring to himself as "the person whom Eri loves the most". Eri interrupts and corrects him, then lectures him on alcohol, which causes Kogoro to refuse to play nice anymore.
Kogoro asks Eri to come back with him.
  • Kogoro does not know that Eri was listening to him; actually, she even recorded his nice words. She would play those words again and again, while thinking that although they are sweet and sincere, they are not enough to convince her to go back.

Volume 28: Files 276-278 / Episodes 220-221: The Client Full of Lies

  • When Kogoro takes notice of Shizuka Ikenami's youth, beauty and temperament, he immediately becomes a gentleman, and tries to flirt with her, forcing Ran to emphasize whenever she can that he is already married.
  • Sango Yokomizo mistakes Shizuka for Kogoro's wife; Kogoro blushes and asks: "Does it look like so?"

(TV Original) Episodes 264-265: Courtroom Confrontation: Kisaki vs. Kogoro

  • Kogoro goes on the opposing side of a case that Eri is working on, in a plan done by her professional rival Reiko Kujo to try and get under Eri's skin. However, his plan fails, as Kogoro's testimony is able to help out Eri's case instead of Reiko's.

Volume 37: Files 374-376 / Episodes 305-306: The Unseen Suspect

  • Both Kogoro and Eri find that the color grey looks warmer than black (later, it is revealed that Kogoro thinks so only because Eri does as well).
Kogoro and Eri share the same Opinion
  • Ruri Ujo - a middle school classmate of Kogoro and Eri - reveals that the pair had a very good relationship since very young, but since they had widely different personalities, they used to bicker over everything, such as which sauce should be served with fried eggs.
  • Since Ruri has changed a lot since middle school and now is an elegant and successful actress, Kogoro tries to hit on her at the beginning of the case, even saying that Ran is a neighbour's child when introducing her to Ruri.

Volume 40: Files 401-403 / Episodes 354-355: A Small Client

  • Ran restates her intention to get Kogoro and Eri back together, but it seems that Kogoro does not want to do that at all.
  • Ran asks why Kogoro is not going on the dinner date that she planned for them, and Kogoro replies that he happens to be busy that day. He then says that since Eri is not dead, they can meet at any time.

Volume 40: File 413 & Volume 41: Files 414-416 / Episodes 333-334: The Similar Princesses

  • Kogoro lost more than 8 million yen to gambling, and is in a dire situation. Ran calls Eri for help; she initially wants to refuse and make Ran come live with her, but when Ran claims that Kogoro has been muttering her name even in sleep, her heart is softened and she agrees to help.
  • When she arrives at the Detective Agency, she finds Kogoro muttering Yoko Okino's name instead. Ran swears that Kogoro was saying her name before, and Eri accepts this explanation, albeit reluctantly. She then says that she agrees to help only because she does not want Ran to have a father deep in debt.
  • Eri meets Yukiko Kudo after not seeing her for ten years; both are excited to see each other. They bring up the "Miss Teitan" competition, which was held 20 years ago to decide who was the prettier and more talented between Eri and Yukiko.
  • After Eri gets 10 million yen of commission fee, she pays off Kogoro's debt and head back to the Detective Agency, planning to leave the rest of the money to Kogoro and to ask him about whom he voted for in the competition.
  • Kogoro reveals that if he had not thought that the competition was too boring, he would have voted for Eri, because he thought that the word "miss" in "Miss Teitan" was the verb referring to "fail to do something".
  • Ran asks how he would have voted if he had understood the true purpose of the competition, and Kogoro says without hesitation or reservation that he would have voted for Yukiko instead of Eri.
  • In the midst of anger and dismay, Eri decides that she would split most of the rest of the commission fee between her and Yukiko. Ran, who is obviously also very disappointed by the answer, says that from what is left, she will take most to pay for the fees essential for keeping the family running.
  • So, in the end, Kogoro is left with about 4 thousand yen.

Volume 45: Files 463-465 / Episodes 371-372: A Course Without Protest

Volume 50: Files 511-514 / Episodes 431-432: Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 7

  • Ran again plans a dinner date, but this time Eri has work to do and cannot come. She tells Ran to remind Kogoro to not drink too much, and makes it clear that she will not be there to help if Kogoro's drunkenness drives him to commit sexual assault.
  • Kogoro, as usual, deems Ran's efforts to fix their relationship unnecessary.

Volume 51: Files 528-529 / Episode 445: Secret of the Russian Blue

  • It is revealed that Eri named her cat 'Goro' after Kogoro. As Kogoro fails to realize this, Eri thinks to herself that the two "Goros" differ a lot in terms of brightness.

Volume 55: Files 574-575 / Episode 474: The Love of Lawyer Eri Kisaki

  • Since Ran finds a photo of Eri and a man unknown to her in her office, and her wedding ring is in the rubbish bin, Ran suspects that Eri has an affair. He thus follows Eri to the café where Eri is meeting that man.
  • Since Eri is brought to tears during the meeting and is saying strange things, Ran decides that the man is manipulating her and taking advantage of her soft spots for sinister purposes.
  • Later, Ran finds out that the man that Eri is meeting is a vet, whom she is consulting because her cat, Goro, has been agitated in sleep lately. As for the wedding ring in the bin, it was because Goro thought it was rubbish.
  • Ran is still not entirely convinced, and remarks that Eri is showing way too much of her body. This has an explanation as well: it is the anniversary of Kogoro and Eri's first ever date, and Eri is wearing the same as what she wore then such that, in her dinner with Kogoro, he will recall those good times and perhaps change his attitude towards her.
  • The dinner does not happen in the end, and Kogoro ends up drinking alone. The suit he wears is also exactly what he wore during the first date.

Volume 62: Files 643-645 / Episodes 505-506: Lawyer Eri Kisaki's Testimony

  • Kogoro, although not very willingly, heads to Eri's hairdresser's to pick her up for dinner.
  • The hairdresser is later arrested for murderer, and she laments not being able to hear Eri tell more stories of Kogoro.
  • Eri blushes when she hears this, and Kogoro asks "is this true?" Eri thinks that he is referring to the hairdresser's words, but then Kogoro says "you are already there drinking? Wait, I will be there soon...", which seems contradictory.
  • It turns out that Kogoro did not hear the hairdresser at all, and was instead on the phone with a friend confirming horse race results and cheering because he just won 1.2 million yen.
  • Eri gives him a harsh slap in the face when she realizes that Kogoro was not listening and that Kogoro's words in the phone call means that he is ditching the dinner in order to drink with friends.

Volume 69: Files 725-727 / Episodes 528-529: Might Over Mystery

  • Kogoro figures out the trick of breaking an alibi by playing pre-recorded background noises using a tape player, because he used this same trick to fool his wife into thinking he was working. Kogoro tries to help Eri by demonstrating the trick. Unfortunately, he ruins the goodwill when his cassette tape plays a part where a woman flirts with him and Eri misunderstands.
  • Eri refuses to consider the idea of actually divorcing Kogoro.

Volume 68: Files 708-710 / Episodes 589-590: The Worst Birthday

  • Sango Yokomizo is excited as he finally gets to know Kogoro's wife. He remarks that he has seen many attractive ladies around Kogoro and thus has mistaken a few of them for Kogoro's wife.
  • Kogoro gives Eri her birthday present, but on the wrong day. Eri still happily accepts the gift, not minding Kogoro's rather stupid strategy of treating her badly and lowering her expectations and finally surprising her with the present; she even gives him a kiss on the cheek.
  • However, it turns out the next day that Kogoro messed up the gifts, and that Eri ends up getting prayer beads. She is utterly irate about this, and yells in her phone call to Ran, demanding to know whether Kogoro wants her dead.

Volume 69: Files 725-727 / Episodes 608-609: White Day of Betrayal

  • Kogoro gives Ran a wrapped gift, saying in a feigned nonchalant manner that Ran should give it to Eri when Ran sees her. Ran is happy and asks if it is for white day, and Kogoro exclaims that it is absolutely is not, and that he just does not want the chocolate that he was going to give to Yoko Okino to be wasted.
  • However, Conan notes that the wrapping of his gift to Yoko is completely different, showing that in fact, Kogoro has prepared chocolate especially for Eri beforehand.
  • When she receives Kogoro's White Dy gift, Eri tries to hold back her smile, and she is seen later to be enjoying it.

(TV Original) Episode 689: The Client's Message

  • Kogoro (inspired by the case) makes his own art out the of the shadows of beer cans, and although he does not know what the shadow will look like, when the lights close, the shadow is in the shape of Eri.

Volume 75: Files 793-795 / Episodes 667-668: Wedding Eve

  • Raita Banba, one of Kogoro and Eri's classmate during high school, mentions that during that time, Kogoro would glare at any guy who dared to talk to Eri. Ran, as usual, is delighted by such stories, and Kogoro, as usual, deems such old memories as unimportant and not worthy of bringing up.

Volume 84: Files 888-890 / Episodes 770-771: The Tense Tea Party

  • Kogoro runs straight to Haido Hospital when he gets a text from Ran (actually, there were dozens of unread texts and calls not picked up) saying that Eri is in the hospital for surgery. To make the moment sweeter, he keeps yelling her name until he gets to her room.
  • However, he is later thrown out of the room by Eri, as he made some silly remarks while in Eri's room, and Eri found out that the reason why Kogoro was not able to get to the hospital as soon as she was transferred to the hospital was that he was gambling and turned off his phone.

Volume 93: File 984-986 / Episodes 901-902: Lawyer Kisaki's SOS

  • For the first time, Kogoro is not interested in a Yoko Okino movie because she plays a female lawyer, and even worse, the case resembles one of Kogoro's own situation in Kogoro Mouri, Suspect, where Kogoro was a suspect of a murder case and Eri refused to protect him, but instead secretly find evidence to prove him innocent.
  • Eri is kidnapped by some husbands who lost their divorce cases against her in court. They wants to strip her naked and force her to apologize. Upon them announcing their intention while holding Eri hostage, Kogoro, climbing a four-story building using the water pipes (despite having acrophobia), reaches Eri and declares that only he has the permission to see Eri naked.
  • As he says this, Kogoro wraps his arm around Eri's shoulder; he proceeds to knock out the kidnappers.
  • Eri and Kogoro hold hands after the case is solved. Takagi wants them to go to the police station for questioning, but Kogoro says that that is for another day, and then he outlines his plan to have dinner and then a date with Eri.
  • Their happy moment is short-lived, as they start quarrelling again in the cinema after the movie ends.
