− | [[Kogoro Mouri]] and [[Eri Kisaki]] | + | [[Kogoro Mouri]] and [[Eri Kisaki]] (officially Eri Mouri) have been a married couple for about 18 years, with the last ten spent separately because of huge personality clashes. Before the marriage, they were very good friends and a couple since elementary school. Despite being separated, they still love and care about each other, although they often put on a show of disdain for each other. It is a running gag that over the course of a case, one of the pair will come close to asking the other if they could move back in together, but then somehow Kogoro ruins the situation by doing something inappropriate or drunkenly flirting with another woman. Their daughter, [[Ran]], is constantly trying to get them to hook up with each other; usually, it is by directly asking them or by planning out ways for them to see each other out of the blue. |

+ | * As Kogoro appears to not have noticed anything, Eri sighs and remarks that her marriage is a failure, and that maybe she should end it altogether and start a new stage in her life.

This implies that Kogoro actually met those young ladies accidentally, and did not meet them on the beach, flirted with them and invited them to have lunch with them.

+ | * Kogoro, along with Ran and Conan, unexpectedly finds Eri shopping with a fellow lawyer at a resort in Gunma. He suspects that his wife is going out with that lawyer, not knowing that she is actually trying to pick a present for himself (as the next day will be their wedding anniversary).
+ | * After it is revealed that Kogoro and Eri both keep track of the cases that the other one has been dealing with, their relationship softens, and they agree to have a drink together, along with a few of Eri's acquainted lawyers.
+ | * Kogoro soon gets drunk, and his old bad habits while drunk once again enrages Eri. She then leaves, and laments that the tie that she picked for him will go to waste. Ran stops her and offers to give the tie to Kogoro, but Eri forcefully rejects, and then says shyly that she will give the present to Kogoro herself.
+ | * Later, Kogoro is found in a locked room, with the corpse of the female lawyer that he flirted with a moment before; Kogoro is sleeping at the time Eri and others break into the room and sees the corpse.
+ | * Much to everyone's surprise, Eri refuses to defend her husband in court, while openly declaring that in her opinion, the evidence strongly suggests that Kogoro has murdered that lawyer.
+ | * Later, we see that her real intention is to remain at the crime scene in order to gather evidence that can prove Kogoro's innocence.
+ | * Eri, with Conan's help, eventually manages to unmask the true murderer and clear Kogoro's name. The next morning, Kogoro walks to where Eri is having breakfast (presumably) and sincerely asks her to come back with him, even saying that he is tired of Ran's cooking and wants to try something new (remember that Kogoro knows very well that Eri's cooking was always horrible). Since Eri does not respond at all, Kogoro shakes her, and finds out that she is just listening to Ran's MD without actually hearing anything that he said.
+ | * Ran runs towards her parents and asks what is going on, and Kogoro reply involves referring to himself as "the person whom Eri loves the most". Eri interrupts and corrects him, then lectures him on alcohol, which causes Kogoro to refuse to play nice anymore.

+ | * Kogoro lost more than 8 million yen to gambling, and is in a dire situation. Ran calls Eri for help; she initially wants to refuse and make Ran come live with her, but when Ran claims that Kogoro has been muttering her name even in sleep, her heart is softened and she agrees to help.
+ | * When she arrives at the Detective Agency, she finds Kogoro muttering Yoko Okino's name instead. Ran swears that Kogoro was saying her name before, and Eri accepts this explanation, albeit reluctantly. She then says that she agrees to help only because she does not want Ran to have a father deep in debt.
+ | * Eri meets Yukiko Kudo after not seeing her for ten years; both are excited to see each other. They bring up the "Miss Teitan" competition, which was held 20 years ago to decide who was the prettier and more talented between Eri and Yukiko.
+ | * After Eri gets 10 million yen of commission fee, she pays off Kogoro's debt and head back to the Detective Agency, planning to leave the rest of the money to Kogoro and to ask him about whom he voted for in the competition.
+ | * Kogoro reveals that if he had not thought that the competition was too boring, he would have voted for Eri, because he thought that the word "miss" in "Miss Teitan" was the verb referring to "fail to do something".
+ | * Ran asks how he would have voted if he had understood the true purpose of the competition, and Kogoro says without hesitation or reservation that he would have voted for Yukiko instead of Eri.
+ | * In the midst of anger and dismay, Eri decides that she would split most of the rest of the commission fee between her and Yukiko. Ran, who is obviously also very disappointed by the answer, says that from what is left, she will take most to pay for the fees essential for keeping the family running.

This has an explanation as well: it is the anniversary of Kogoro and Eri's first ever date, and Eri is wearing the same as what she wore then such that, in her dinner with Kogoro, he will recall those good times and perhaps change his attitude towards her.

Relationship analysis
Kogoro Mouri and Eri Kisaki (officially Eri Mouri) have been a married couple for about 18 years, with the last ten spent separately because of huge personality clashes. Their daughter, Ran, is constantly trying to get them to hook up with each other; usually, it is by directly asking them or by planning out ways for them to see each other out of the blue.
Kogoro and Eri moments
Manga/Anime
Volume 11: Files 105-107 / Episode 32: Coffee Shop Murder Case
- Eri is revealed to be Ran's mother right before the end of the case (Conan does not recognize her because he have not seen her in ten years).
- When Ran asks whether she is considering going back home, Eri firmly rejects, and proceeds to list the many vices of Kogoro, and also claims that the only invaluable things that have come out of the marriage are Ran and the one-arm shoulder throw manoeuvre that Kogoro taught her.
- Ran does not give up, and asks why Eri married Kogoro if she knew that he had so may flaws in his personality; Eri replies that maybe it is just the destiny of childhood best friends.
- Ran also asks why Eri would not take off her wedding ring if in fact she thinks so poorly of Kogoro. This question turns out to be too easy for Eri; she casually replies that the ring serves to tell other "boring men" that they should not try to flirt with her.
- Although Eri cannot find anything positive to say about Kogoro, she still have feelings towards her, as evidenced by her proud expression when she sees Kogoro on TV (Kogoro, via Conan, is revealing the truth behind a previous murder case).
- The clip played on TV also includes a phone call where Kogoro tells some woman that since he and his wife no longer live together, he is available for an all-night celebration. This visibly annoys Eri, and she waves goodbye to Ran as she says that she will not go back home just yet.
Volume 14: Files 131-138 / Episode 96: The Cornered Famous Detective! Two Big Murder Cases
- Ran encourages Eri to call Kogoro; she does exactly that, and tries to introduce a new client to Kogoro, only to be yelled at by an indignant Kogoro, who says that he does not need her help. Kogoro then orders her to stop bothering him before hanging up angrily.
Volume 17: Files 163-165 / Episodes 114-115: Scuba Diving Murder Case
- This is the first occasion where Ran tries to fix her parents' relationship by telling them to go somewhere separately and making them meet, pretending that it is a coincidence and that they meet because there is a telepathic connection or something like that between them.
- Eri accidentally loses her wedding ring on the beach, but pretends that she has deliberately left it at home in order to see if Kogoro has noticed.
- As Kogoro appears to not have noticed anything, Eri sighs and remarks that her marriage is a failure, and that maybe she should end it altogether and start a new stage in her life.
- The fact that Kogoro brings over a few young ladies to Eri later (and invites them to have lunch with them) makes Eri's thoughts firmer. As Kogoro introduces Eri to those ladies, she interjects and claims that she is his ex-wife.
- After the case is solved, Kogoro tosses Eri's missing ring to her, and tells her that he knows since the beginning that the ring was missing, and thus set out to find it. This implies that Kogoro actually met those young ladies accidentally, and did not meet them on the beach, flirted with them and invited them to have lunch with them.
- Eri is surprised and touched by Kogoro's words, but as Kogoro is soon back to his normal mode, Eri leaves, somewhat resigned. She is later seen with the wedding ring back on her ring finger again.

- Kogoro soon gets drunk, and his old bad habits while drunk once again enrages Eri. She then leaves, and laments that the tie that she picked for him will go to waste. Ran stops her and offers to give the tie to Kogoro, but Eri forcefully rejects, and then says shyly that she will give the present to Kogoro herself.
- Later, Kogoro is found in a locked room, with the corpse of the female lawyer that he flirted with a moment before; Kogoro is sleeping at the time Eri and others break into the room and sees the corpse.
- Much to everyone's surprise, Eri refuses to defend her husband in court, while openly declaring that in her opinion, the evidence strongly suggests that Kogoro has murdered that lawyer.
- Later, we see that her real intention is to remain at the crime scene in order to gather evidence that can prove Kogoro's innocence.
- Eri, with Conan's help, eventually manages to unmask the true murderer and clear Kogoro's name.
- Ran runs towards her parents and asks what is going on, and Kogoro reply involves referring to himself as "the person whom Eri loves the most". Eri interrupts and corrects him, then lectures him on alcohol, which causes Kogoro to refuse to play nice anymore.
- Kogoro does not know that Eri was listening to him; actually, she even recorded his nice words. She would play those words again and again, while thinking that although they are sweet and sincere, they are not enough to convince her to go back.

- When she arrives at the Detective Agency, she finds Kogoro muttering Yoko Okino's name instead. - Ran asks how he would have voted if he had understood the true purpose of the competition, and Kogoro says without hesitation or reservation that he would have voted for Yukiko instead of Eri.
- In the midst of anger and dismay, Eri decides that she would split most of the rest of the commission fee between her and Yukiko. - Later, Ran finds out that the man that Eri is meeting is a vet, whom she is consulting because her cat, Goro, has been agitated in sleep lately. As for the wedding ring in the bin, it was because Goro thought it was rubbish.
- Ran is still not entirely convinced, and remarks that Eri is showing way too much of her body. This has an explanation as well: it is the anniversary of Kogoro and Eri's first ever date, and Eri is wearing the same as what she wore then such that, in her dinner with Kogoro, he will recall those good times and perhaps change his attitude towards her.
