Situation
This time Kogoro's client turned out to be a lady who had just recently lost her husband; according to herself, her husband, Yutaka Nemoto, died in a traffic accident three months ago. However, when she was going over her late husband's belongings, she noticed a big stack of bank notes, summing up to 20 million Japanese yen (that's about 134 thousand US dollars) in total. She also called Nemoto a "tragic genius", since he was fairly good in baseball competitions and achieved quite a success, but injured himself right before playing within Koshien Stadium; he also developed himself amongst the racing aspect, but he encountered an accident and was forced to retire; he also attempted to become a competitive eater, but unfortunately, he ended up in the hospital when he was supposed to compete in the world championship... Therefore, Nemoto had lots of trophies and souvenirs regarding his splendid career experiences but never managed to reach the top for each of them. Thereafter, he went into despair and was considering committing crime activities... until he met the lady, Eriko Nemoto. Despite undertaking numerous obstacles, they still managed to make a change and were successfully married to each other. They have been married for nine years, and they took one photo for each year, which can be seen in the lady's home. She wondered if her husband had been committing a crime before the car accident, and thus she would want Kogoro to investigate the source of the 20 million yen she found earlier.

Using the query features embedded into the search engine, there were only three cases that met the qualifications of both "robebry", "three months ago", and "20 million yen". Kogoro was firmly convinced that Nemoto is the culprit, so he began asking around the premises that the three cases happened:
1. Beika Bank Musashino Branch: the two branch staff members ushered the Mouri family and answered their questions meticulously. Both of them declared that the scenario looked more like a movie, and there were a bunch of people wearing ski masks speaking a certain foreign language. And when they re-examined the security footage recarding from that day, they realised that all robbers who hyjacked the branch had a special tattoo on their arms, which would scribble Yutaka Nemoto's name off the suspect list. However, Kogoro claimed that this was only one-third of the investigation, so he could not be sure if Nemoto did not commit the crime in any of the other two cases. |

2. Rich Madam's Mansion: the second 20 million case was related to a rich woman. This one is not as brutal as the robbery but still quite severe, since the same amount of money in value was robbed. The madam showed Kogoro her conversation with the scammer. The scammer pretended to be a young man and wanted to be with her. In reality, they never successfully arranged a meet-up in real life, but the scammer kept uttering excuses to avoid meeting with the rich woman. The woman also mentioned that once they even promised to marry each other, the date was already chosen. But the scammer simply did not show up and said that a relative of "his" was undergoing surgery and needed money. Due to the "generosity" of the "man" liking old women, she was willing to transfer 20 million yen for the surgery fee. But Ran pointed out that she could perceive that the scammer's gender was not even male from the deliberate way the scammer writes; Conan also deduced that the scammer was most likely an older person, as some dated expressions and words were used between their conversations. |

3. Kaneko Jewelry Store: Conan was also astounded after seeing the last location. Since this jewelry store had been robbed a lot of times in previous days, And of course, they talked to its owner, Keita Kaneko, concerning the 20 million robbery incident that took place three months ago. He explained that back then he was having a deal with President Kizushima, and that president preferred transactions with cash, so he prepared a box of 20 million cash to bring it to him. This meeting was then interrupted by a robber, wearing a ski mask, who eventually stole the 20 million yen in front of them. Moreover, when they watched the security footage recordings of the jewelry store that day, they found Yutaka Nemoto within the camera footage, and he was looking at the jewels at that time and smirking a little. This made Kogoro determine that Yutaka Nemoto is the only possible candidate for the 20 million robbery case. |

Kogoro was about to tell the truth to his client and asked Ran and Conan to go home. All of a sudden, Conan recalled something from the security footage of Kaneko Jewelry Store, and thought that there were flaws in their initial deduction and must impede Kogoro from telling the false theory to Eriko... Just as Kogoro began speaking to Eriko, Conan arrived at her apartment on time and rang the bell in order to interrupt Kogoro's speech. When Ran and Conan entered the room, Conan immediately tarnquilized Kogoro and began his deduction...
