Goemon Ishikawa XIII (十三代目 石川 五ェ門 Jūsandaime Ishikawa Goemon ) is an associate of Lupin III.
Character profile
Goemon Ishikawa XIII is a samurai and a thirteenth generation descendant of the historical figure Ishikawa Goemon. His most prized possession is the sword Zantetsuken (斬鉄剣; Ryusei - 流星 - in the original manga), which is capable of cutting through nearly any substance known to man. He is almost always a major participant in Lupin's adventures.
In the original manga series, Goemon started out as one of Lupin's enemies when the latter had infiltrated his family to steal a secret chemical formula. Determined to make the thief pay for this transgression, Goemon made several attempts on his life, including at one time hiring Daisuke Jigen, who would also become one of Lupin's closest friends, to do the job. However, in time he came to respect Lupin and eventually switched sides, becoming one of his two most trusted and loyal associates.
Goemon is the archetypical warrior: stoic, brave, with no apparent sense of humor, and ever eager to seek a challenge for his combat skills, which he keeps honing. As a result, despite his loyalty to Lupin, he is rather irritated by his frequent antics. He has a much more amicable relationship with Jigen, and he generally distrusts Fujiko Mine because of her exploitative nature, although he will come to her aid if necessary.
Lupin III in Detective Conan
- Goemon appears as Lupin's ally in the crossover specials Lupin III vs. Detective Conan (2009) and Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie (2013).
