Biography

After working at an advertising agency, Yasumi Mikamoto joined Mushi Production (虫プロダクション) in 1975 and worked there notably on TV commercials. After moving to Tokyo Movie (subsidiary of SEGA), he took part in the production of several animation works like The Gutsy Frog (ど根性ガエル) and Space Battleship Yamato (宇宙戦艦ヤマト); whereupon he also served as the director and main storyboardist of the anime Lupin the 3rd Part II (ルパン三世 TV第2シリーズ). After that, he worked as an assistant director under Director Takahata, holding a position in the anime Jarinko Chie ( じゃりン子チエ) of assistant director. At Tokyo Movie's American subsidiary, he began working mainly on animated joint productions with foreign countries. After that, he moved to Disney Japan and worked for Sunrise (サンライズ) and Animaruya (エクラアニマル); but in recent years, he has returned to domestic production and has been doing a lot of directing work for Tokyo Movie (東京ムービー).

Mikamoto's career with Detective Conan was short lived, lasting only from 2002 to 2005, but many cases were storyboarded: joined the Detective Conan anime production in 2002 starting with the 2nd part of Courtroom Confrontation: Kisaki vs. Kogoro, and quit the production in 2005 with the 2nd part of Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 6.
