Place of birth: Japan

Years active: 1995-2001

Chiaki Hashiba (橋場 千晶 Hashiba Chiaki?, ??? – March 8, 2000) is a Japanese screenplay writer. Not a lot of information is known about her, except pertaining to her screenplay involvements and her identity as the teacher of Hideo Kobayashi (小林 秀夫).

Biography

Hashiba became active as a screenwriter since 1995, and mainly prodcued gangster-themed works. For example, KYO-DAN (狂弾) and New GONIN (新GONIN) etc. Apart from film and television works, she also once collaborated with a Japanese mangaka Kenji Okamura (岡村 賢二), which she served as the script for that manga, and they created the Empty Fist Killer (ベアマーダー流介) series[2].

On March 8, 2000, Chiaki died of illness[1]. One of her apprentices was found to be born in 1963, based on this, it is possible that Chiaki was above 50 years old before she passed away[3]. As a result, all the scripts aired after The Nocturne of Red Murderous Intent (aired in February 2000) were posthumous.

Style analysis

The Shimogasa Twins reappears in one of Hashiba's works.

Just like Koujin Ochi, Hashiba's works in the Detective Conan anime are all of high quality, which confused a lot of the unaware Detective Conan audience and made them think her works were by Gosho Aoyama. In terms of the school of deduction, she writes Shinhonkaku deduction (新本格派推理), which always contains magnificient tricks and breathtaking imaginations. Moreover, the tricks will also make use of special buildings on a huge scale. Namely, her scripts specialise in astonishing tricks, having them as the core. An example of these cases would be Soji Shimada (島田 荘司)'s Murder in the Crooked House (斜め屋敷の犯罪).

Her main writing focus is impossible crime. The most typical example written by her would be The Entrance to the Maze: The Anger of the Colossus, which is one of the one hour special aired in 2000. Her flaws are quite obvious as well, since she concentrates on devising magnificient tricks, the deductions in her cases are not very ingenious, and most of the evidence to conclude the case is hasty and casual. Furthermore, she really likes to sublimate the case with some meaningful preachings, which can be found in The Black Wings of Icarus.

Hashiba passed away in March 2000, by then, only one script of hers had managed to air, thus leaving the rest posthumous. The last case for which she was credited, The Fearful Legend of the Snowy Night, only aired in 2001 and was co-written with another screenwriter, it is probable that this case was her unfinished work and was completed by Komatsuzaki.
