Tohru Furuya (古谷 徹 Furuya Tōru?), is a veteran narrator and seiyū (voice actor) born on July 31, 1953 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.[1] As a child, he was a member of Gekidan Himawari[1], a children's acting troupe. He is currently employed by the talent management firm Aoni Production.[1]

In Detective Conan, he voiced Rei Furuya since his introduction in 2012, until 2024.

Scandal and Retirement from Detective Conan

On May 22, 2024, Tohru Furuya acknowledged a recent report by the Weekly Bunshun magazine regarding an affair he had with a fan. Furuya admitted that he had been in a relationship with a female fan for four and a half years until last September. He said that he had become attracted to a fan of his that was supporting him earnestly, and that he had contacted her to begin the affair. He also admitted that during their relationship, he had raised his hand to strike her once when they had an argument. Furuya also admitted that he had caused the woman to have an abortion. [2]

  • Furuya was a best friend of the late Hirotaka Suzuoki and is noted to be friends with Shuichi Ikeda (the voice actor of Shuichi Akai). Also he and Ikeda have appeared as rivals in Mobile Suit Gundam series (Amuro Ray and Char Aznable).
  • Furuya was at one time married to fellow seiyuu Mami Koyama (the voice actress of Vermouth) but amicably divorced in 1983. He later married seiyuu Satomi Majima.
