Biography
Masayuki Hiraoka graduated from Osaka Designers' College (大阪デザイナー学院); after the graduation, he joined Studio Live (スタジオ・ライブ). Moreover, he himself disclosed that his pet dog is named "Momo" (モモ), a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
In 1999, Hiraoka joined the production of the Detective Conan anime under the name of freelance animator, starting with the 1st part of Magic Lover's Murder Case, and began to serve as an animation director regularly within the production team. He was appointed to work on the episodes produced by Sunshine Corporation (even though not with the name of "production cooperation", the key animation group was of that firm). As a result, most of the frames drawn by the animators from the key animation group were quite magnificent, this was one of the factors that contributed to the great quality within the episodes he was responsible.
During his stint in the Detective Conan production team, he successfully conceived his own particular style, but has been rather controversial among the fandom - some fans were convinced that his style resembles those famed Detective Conan animators like Atsushi Aono, or even the original author Gosho Aoyama; yet others thought that the characters from his hands were too far off the anime character design.
In 2001, after finishing the animation correction work for The Secret of the High Sales, Hiraoka quit the production team (whereupon his position as a regular animation director was replaced by Takehiro Hamatsu). He was then back in the production team shortly from 2002 to 2003, and did animation direction for another two episodes, but this time being credited as Masayuki (マサユキ ). Evidently, his art style altered, and thus the peculiar "round faced" Conan was nowhere to be found, transforming to a more sharp one; Conan's pupil became absurdly huge as well. After that, he has not involved in Detective Conan until now.
