Plot

The investigation stalls, which is why the suspects Reisuke Inaba, Shigeki Kimata and Myoji Karuo want to leave, as there is no solution to the unanswered questions in sight. But at that moment Heiji and Conan rush in with a pizza and another object and say that they can solve the trick of the case. The victim Kyousuke Kabumoto did eat the pizza, although no piece was missing or bitten when it was served. They go into the kitchen to cut the pizza and demonstrate the trick.

In the kitchen, Heiji already has the pizza cutter in his hand when Momiji Ooka comes over and offers to cut the pizza, saying it is the "duty of a wife". She grabs a knife, which she is holding completely wrong, and runs towards Heiji, where she stumbles and falls with the knife in Heiji's direction. Meanwhile, Ran and Kazuha are still stuck on the dessert tasting tour. They only have to make it to three more places and then Muga Iori will take them to Momiji and Heiji, but Kazuha notices that Ran is gradually losing her ability to eat quickly, but does not want to let it show. When she sees her friend, who keeps trying to gobble down the delicacies for her sake, Kazuha decides that they should just keep eating slowly, as it would be disrespectful to the confectioners and their work. Ran interjects that Kazuha sensed that Momiji was making a move on Heiji and that they must hurry, but Kazuha plays it off: Heiji will not fall for Momiji that easily. At the same time, Heiji is lying on the kitchen floor; Momiji is kneeling over him, a result of her tripping. The knife is stuck in the floor a little way next to Heiji's head. Heiji had also tried to stop Momiji's fall by pressing his hand against her shoulder. But instead of her shoulder, Heiji grabbed Momiji's breasts with his hand. Heiji tries to explain, his face bright red, that it was not intentional, but Momiji says nothing and wants to get straight to the point by kissing Heiji. But before that can happen, Conan points out that he is still in the room and that Kogoro, Hyoue Kuroda, Fumimaro Ayanokoji and the suspects are waiting for them to return with the sliced ​​pizza. Heiji lets go of Momiji and quickly gets up. While he cuts the pizza, Momiji gives Conan an annoyed look and mentally calls him a spoilsport.

Back with the rest of the group, Heiji and Conan show the trick of the victim behind the pizza: If you cut a thin, long piece out of the middle of the pizza, you can push the other pieces back together to make a whole pizza. To do this, you have to pretend to open the door just a crack. Beforehand, the perpetrator placed a checkered cloth under the door making it look like the victim's shirt. Then you kneel down to examine the supposed shirt and secretly place a rubber ball through the crack under the doorstop on the other side of the door. The rubber ball creates enough friction to block the door if you push hard against the door. If you pull the door towards you and then gently push it, you can still open the door. There was only one suspect who could have used this trick: Reisuke Inaba.

The checkered cloth, which resembled the victim's shirt, was the handkerchief Inaba used to wipe his mouth after eating. He was the one who got to the door first and knelt down next to the crack in the door, so only he could perform the trick with the rubber ball. After everyone left to climb the ladder to the balcony, Inaba went into the room and force-fed the water that had been poisoned beforehand into Kabumoto. He then placed the water bottle and the poison vial next to the corpse and disguised the rubber ball as one of the lollipops, which is why Momiji had seen one of the lollipops bounce off the floor like a bouncy ball when Kogoro pushed them off the desk. That was also Inaba's mistake: to disguise the rubber ball as a lollipop, he had to wrap it in the wrapping paper of a lollipop and then stick it to a stick with adhesive tape. Since he could not wear gloves, there will be a lot of fingerprints on the tape. After camouflaging the rubber ball, he leaned the body against the door, went out and closed the door behind him, causing the body to fall to the side and now really lie in front of the door.

Inaba is thus cornered and he confesses to the crime. The other suspects realize that Inaba must also have killed the actress Ninka Gyouda, since the same trick was used there. Inaba confesses to this crime as well. He had an affair with Ninka, but she wanted to inform the press about it if Inaba did not leave his wife, so Inaba killed Ninka, but Kabumoto saw through his trick. Instead of threatening him with calling the police or demanding that he stop scriptwriting, Kabumoto had said with a devilish look that scriptwriters who had actually committed murder were very rare and that Inaba could therefore write a script for the play about Heiji and Kogoro that came straight from the soul of a real murderer. That is why he did not want to reveal his crime, at least as long as Inaba cooperated. Kabumoto had a great soft spot for Ninka and was the one who had forced the affair on Inaba so that Inaba could write more authentic scripts when he himself had cheated on his wife. Inaba felt that there was no other way; he had to kill Kabumoto so that this madman would not cause even more damage with his evil deeds.

While Inaba was being led into a patrol car by the police in front of the house, Iori's car with Kazuha and Ran drove up. Momiji insists on mentioning to Kazuha that she and Heiji even had physical contact this time, which of course gets Kazuha angry. Meanwhile, Iori looks around a little away from the group, whereupon Kuroda speaks to him. Kuroda calls Iori "Sakakibara" and mentions that he has not yet given up the old habit of inspecting the surroundings when getting out of the car. Iori replies that Kuroda still has not given up the old jargon, which Kuroda acquiesces. Iori asks Kuroda not to call him Sakakibara, as this is his old code name from a past infiltration mission that he does not like to remember. Kuroda continues and says that he heard that Iori had an interesting reunion.
