Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are at a movie premier of Jinnai King of Death VIII. After the show they see Hayato Nanjo greeting fans, he plays Jinnai in the movie. Then Kogoro is spotted by Hayato's wife who shows him a death threat that says Hayato will die at midnight just like in the movie. His wife is worried but Hayato brushes it off. Reporters and Kogoro have a stake out when Jinnai appears and makes for Hayato's room. They arrive by elevator and when Kogoro comes out he trips on vinyl tape. They hear a scream and Hayato's dead with a bullet to the head.
