Yamatoya started writing scripts for anime ever since 1997. He studied under his father Atsushi Yamatoya (大和屋 竺)'s apprentice [[Yoshio Urasawa. He is extremely active in writing anime scripts, he was one of the main organizers of the anime series Gintama (銀魂). Later in 2005, he started writing scripts for tokusatsus such as Mahō Sentai Magiranger (魔法戦隊マジレンジャー), he even wrote lyrics for some songs within that tokusatsu.
