File 012 - The Picture Speaks

Conan begins his first day of elementary school. After being introduced, everyone is taken on the playground. Conan decides to use his new Power-Kick Shoes to show off for some girls nearby, but ends up knocking down a nearby tree instead. After school, Conan runs into Kogoro, who is tailing a man for cash.

After three days of tailing, Kogoro counts up his cash, and is pleased by the amount. Kogoro gets suspicious of Conan, but his thoughts are interrupted by the TV. The TV announcer reports that a man was found burned in a fire tower in Akaoni, and the man was the man Kogoro had been tailing for three days, Mr. Masaki Negishi.

Kogoro goes to the police to testify, and comes out later fuming. All three go home, and Kogoro starts looking through some photos. The photos prove the alibi of the only man with a motive to kill the victim, Yutaka Abe. Conan points out all the photos have a clock in them, indicating that they were taken for an alibi, making Kogoro suspicious of Conan again. His suspicions are proved unfounded when Conan mixes up the alibi pictues with the pictures Kogoro took of Negishi when he was tailing him. Conan, looking at the pictures, realizes something odd...

Later, Kogoro and Ran are discussing the case. No one knew who captured Abe and left the recording of his confession, but something Abe said made them wonder if it was Conan...

Conan, bored, decides to plant a transmitter that corresponded with his new glasses, but the transmitter ends up on the girl's watch. Kogoro decides to take the case, and the girl thanks him and leaves.

After investigating for a while, they find Hirota at the horse races. They follow him to his apartment, and tell Masami and lead her there. Hirota seems shocked to see her. While leaving, they spy a man in shades watching them, but he quickly turns away. That night, Hirota is found hanged in his apartment, clearly murdered.
