Daisuke Jigen (次元 大介 Jigen Daisuke?) is a constant companion of Lupin III and the marksman of his gang.

Character profile

In the original manga series, Jigen first appears in chapter 7, "Magician" (魔術師 Majutsushi), but with no background information provided. In the spin-off anime franchise (the "Red Jacket" series) it is revealed that he was born and grew up in the New York Bronx, where he developed his outstanding sharpshooting skills, but later relocated to Europe and joined the Italian Mafia.

However, Jigen eventually had an affair with Cicciolina, the wife of his boss. When her husband found out and tried to kill her, she accidentally ended up shooting him with his own revolver. Jigen took the gun - and thus the blame - on himself, evaded his Mafia pursuers and later joined the Chinese triads. Years later, with the aid of Fujiko Mine, Cicciolina arranged a meeting with Jigen and tricked him into killing her; this event sparked Jigen's disinterest in pursuing romantic interests as well as his decision to become a thief instead of a gunman. While he still uses his gun skills to kill men if he has to, he considers killing women and children a personal taboo.

Jigen eventually met and teamed up with the notorious master thief Lupin III, a coorporation which evolved into a deep mutual friendship. Jigen's weapon of choice is the Smith & Wesson Model 19 revolver - the gun which belonged to his late mob boss -, although he is skilled in any type of modern firearms.

Lupin III in Detective Conan
