<spoiler>Conan reveals '''Masashi Horikoshi''' hired the kidnapper to murder his girlfriend, but accidentally captured Ran instead because of their tent placement. He wanted to kidnap and kill her because he found her to be a nuisance since she was selfish, spends all of his money, and is nosy. He hired Masaeki Tadaka by paying him 1 million yen. After examining some clues, he realizes that Ran is in a river and that it will flood at 3 o'clock. After saving Ran, everyone becomes exhausted except for Ran who has just woken up from her nap.</spoiler>
